    Solid wood cover for winter

    1) Loop-Loc's Mesh-II cover will let light in. This is the only mesh material for a cover they have. Some other brands have a mesh that will stop light but they weigh a lot more. 2) Loop-Loc's On-Ground covers are stretched tight to the special anchors set around the perimeter of the pool. If...

CAUTION: NOT for those with a WEAK stomach!!!!!!!!

I would have manually vacuumed to waste. Sweeps can scatter the solids on the floor unless they are suction side. Other than that, you're fine. Scott

    Automatic Cover

    1) Don't do the auto cover. That is a LOT of money and they are not good for winter generally. 2) Use either a safety cover properly anchored or a tarp cover and water bags. If your wood deck is actually the fake wood stuff like Trex, skip the safety cover as the anchors won't stay put. 3) If...

Custom, Buried AGP - Liner Installation ?s

On ground pools expect a 48" or 52" wall. You are way over that at 5 feet. If your walls were 52", some liners, but not all, can stretch in the center to allow dishing out. Scott

My vinyl pool is on pavers, what should I put under the pool

Re: My vinyl pool is on pavers, what should I put under the If your pool is a traditional on/above ground style pool: IMHO, the pavers under the pool plus and additional 30cm or so out from the perimeter should be removed. Use a locking system to ensure the remaining pavers don't come loose...

    My winter cover keeps ripping!

With an AGP, the cover should be resting on the water's surface, not pulled tight like a safety cover over an in ground pool. Scott

Check out my electrical codes. Strict !

If the receptacle on the house is more than 20' from the pool, a light or radio will be too far away. Scott

adding salt to an AGP, "add salt" on the swg

Won't hurt the liner. Dump away. Then brush it around. You will find it dissolves quickly. Run the pump for a couple hours after adding. Expect it to take a few turns of the pool's volume to become fully distributed evenly. Scott

    Darn Swimmers!

Swimmers aren't your pool's worst enemy. It's water first and then the Sun. People are a distant 3rd. Scott

    Pool store scam???

As an independent service tech, I don't normally play the web price game. The web dealer won't be there. From a sort of biased and selfish POV, I don't normally install stuff people buy off the net as a rule :grrrr: . Its great for the DIYer  but asking me to do it is like bringing your...

    liner discoloring

pbhound, Please read Pool School in the upper right. Lets not try taking short cuts or reinventing the wheel. The discoloring is most likely from how you have been adding the cal-hypo powder. Liner prints are inked on. It's getting bleached out, like due to not diluting the powder...

Does my pump look big in this?

The roughly 30GPM and his glass filled filter are fine. Glass tends to offer a little less resistance. Backwashes should be done after about a 6 PSI rise rather than the 10 PSI most other sand and DE filters get. Scott

    liner discoloring

    1) Cal-Hypo or dichlor powdered chlorine not pre-diluted well in water before addition can leave powder sitting on the liner. 2) Old liner 3) Cheap Tabs in floater not moving creates concentrated chlorine settling to the bottom and tabs are disolving quickly. 4) Cheap liner. Scott

Is there a "best time of year" to buy pool?

The best time was yesterday. Prices are NOT going down unless the US Dollar to Gold value changes so it takes fewer dollars to buy an oz. of gold. Then the dollar is more valuable and goods cost less. Scott

Concrete in wedding cake steps? Bad idea?

Portland needs something to bind too as an aggregate. I think Ready-Mix would be better. The steps will need to be removed first so the cement can harden. Depending on the compartment, you will want a way to remove the cast concrete weights you're making so the steps can be removed when...

    I have a leak

I assume it's in the liner. Fix-A-Leak is meant for plumbing only. A liner patch kit should solve the leak. The glue works under water when the instructions are followed. Scott

Should I add extra return - rust an issue?

Proper use of the gaskets on the bulkhead, plus a little GE clear silicone will keep the return hole in good shape for many, many years assuming you make a clean hole. Scott
