    Fellow citizen's pool

Have you thought about a drain and refill (I think you can do that with a AGP without damaging the liner?)? That might be the easiest way to clean the junk off the bottom. 9k gallons of water is pretty cheap in MN.

    Help with algae?

To summarize, I think you need to sort out your circulation issue. Then complete the SLAM process. If your yellow algae is mustard algae, I think it can be a little stubborn. If you search for "mustard algae" on the forum I'm sure you'll find some good posts on how to deal with it. From my...

    Help with algae?

It doesn't seem to me that your plumbing alone would be causing enough head to have your filter pressure be at 20psi. I suspect your filters are dirty or are somehow not working properly. Are you able to bypass your sand filter to see if that improves the flow from the returns?

    Help with algae?

With algae in the pool, more frequent backwashing may be needed. Can you provide more precise pressure data? There is likely a large difference in flow rate between 18 and 22 psi. What is pressure currently? What is pressure right after backwashing?

    Help with algae?

Are there other factors that could be contributing to a circulation problem? Dirty filter? You are likely killing a lot of algae if you are keeping your FC at 10 and have algae in the pool. I know when I have battled algae in the past, its not uncommon to clean the filter daily. The site...

    Help with algae?

I would try increasing rpms to full speed and see what that does to the circulation. Can you feel strong flow from the returns, etc...? If you have poor circulation, seems like that could lead to an algae outbreak, and your FC of 10 with a CYA of 30 might not be enough to kill it. I would...

    Help with algae?

Are your Pentair pumps IntelliFlo? Do you know what speed they are running at?

What next? My pool is still green....

That may be the root cause of your problem. A DE filter with no DE on the grids isn't doing much filtering. You need to add DE every time you backwash. Try adding some DE to your filter and see if it clears up. You should only backwash when your filter pressure rises about 25% (i.e. if the...

What next? My pool is still green....

If it were me and I had to chose between high FC level or brushing/vacuuming, I would keep the FC high and skip the brushing/vacuuming. In your first post you say that the FC dropped down to 7 "again", but in your most recent you say that FC hasn't dropped below shock level. How often are you...

    CYA Level for Slam

Leave CYA where it is until you test with your TF-100 test kit. A CYA of 30ppm is a good level for completing the SLAM process.

Heavy rain + lots of dirt and mud = Brown Pool! Please help!

Re: Heavy rain + lots of dirt and mud = Brown Pool! Please h I would turn the pump off for a few hours to let the dirt settle to the bottom of the pool. Then vacuum.

    phosphates

If you weren't able to return the Phosfree and still haven't used it yet, I would recommend not using it (or only add small amounts at a time). Before I found this site, I added a whole bottle of phosfree to my pool and it clogged up the filter right away. I had to clean the filter, which...

Another green swamp for you guys

Looks good. Glad to hear you passed the OCLT. Did you do anything special to pass it (i.e. clean something)? Or did it just take time?

Another green swamp for you guys

You could turn the pump off overnight for the OCLT. Just turn it back on in the morning about 30 minutes before you pull your sample for testing so that the water gets thoroughly mixed.

Another green swamp for you guys

The waterfall could be another area where there is algae. Can you turn off the waterfall at night while you are doing the OCLT?

3 ppm seems like a lot to be losing for how good the pool looks. Might be worth checking the cavity behind your light, or other places like that for hidden algae.

I think you could leave them in if the de doesn't clog the drain. For me its easier to take it out.

Another green swamp for you guys

I have the same filter and I have a DE cartridge in mine. It must be cheaper because it has fewer pleats. I like it because it is very easy to clean. You just pull the cartridge out, hose it off, put it back in. Only takes a couple of minutes to clean. I think a cartridge filter with more...

Another green swamp for you guys

What I've found shopping for pool supplies online is that there isn't one place that has the best price on everything. I recommend finding the model/part number of your filter cartridge, type that into google, and use that to find the best price.

Another green swamp for you guys

How much water you lose depends a lot on water temperature, air temperature, humidity, and wind. Here in MN if I have a week where its sunny every day, I may lose an inch of water over the week. In OK, where its probably hotter and drier, you may lose more. One way to see if your pool has a...

Another green swamp for you guys

I would wait a week before testing the CYA again. Just assume that what you put in is in there. If you've added 4 lbs. total, your CYA should be around 30 ppm (assuming there wasn't any in there to begin with). Keep your FC above 12 as much as possible, and your pool will keep clearing up. Do...

Wait another 30 minutes to test FC and CC. You could do.all the other tests now.

Another green swamp for you guys

I would try vacuuming the bottom of the pool and see if you can get anything more off the bottom. Also, watch your filter pressure and monitor the strength of the flow coming out of the returns. Normally, you want to clean you filter when the pressure rises about 30% above the pressure you had...

Another green swamp for you guys

I would focus on removing as much organic matter (leaves etc..) as possible before adding any chlorine. The organic matter will eat up chlorine very quickly. Are you running your pump 24/7? With how the pool looks, I'd imagine you'll need to clean your filter every couple of hours today. Once...

Algae...but no drop in FC and zero CCs? (Pics added)

Re: Algae...but no drop in FC and zero CCs? Are you sure it's algae? Did your FC drop below the minimum for your CYA, or is there any other reason to think its algae? I would vacuum the bottom of your pool and as long as your FC and CC look good, assume it was something besides algae.

    Ph dropping when shocking

What type of chlorine are you using while shocking your pool? Can you post a full set of test results?
