    Good news...I think

The down side of waiting until October to do this is that the water is too cold for me to get in. So, I can't remove the lights and clean out behind them. What's the chance I've still gotten rid of this? I'm hanging my hat on the idea that I had a very minimal algae problem to begin with...

    Good news...I think

OK...Overnight FC Loss test was successful. 8:30 PM last night: FC = 28 C=0 6:45 AM today..same results. 0 FC loss overnight. Now to verify the next steps. I believe for MA, I should now let the FC drift down to the normal shock level, which should be about 22 for me, and then...

    Good news...I think

I started the Mustard Algae shock process on Sunday morning. It's now 8:30 PM Monday Night, here are my readings: FC = 28 CC = 0 TC = 28 CYA = 50-55 CH = 260 (last time I checked) I don't think the following are accurate since I am testing with high FC levels, but since you asked: TA Would...

    Good news...I think

I learned about and started using BBB early summer 2009 when my CYA was high and I started to get a little algae here and there. It wasn't much, and very managable, so I never really took care of it. Now I'm in the middle of the shock-and-brush routine to get rid of it. The good news, I...

Mustard Algae Questions and FC Dissipation w/o heavy sun

Waterfall clarification. I have both a spillover and weeping wall. The waterfall is off 95% of the time. Generally speaking though, why did you say to turn that off? Does that increase FC loss or something?

Mustard Algae Questions and FC Dissipation w/o heavy sun

Cya 50 Fc 5 Tc 5 Ph 7.5 Ta 80 6% bleach to chlorinate. I don't have borax in the pool because of pet concerns. I found TFP when I first had a MA problem. I had high cya and didn't maintain he proper levels. That was all resolved long ago, I've just never taken the step to fully shock away...

Mustard Algae Questions and FC Dissipation w/o heavy sun

Also...why turn off the spillover? If I do that, there will be no circulation in the spa.

Mustard Algae Questions and FC Dissipation w/o heavy sun

My pool specs are in my signature. As for high fc loss...welcome to pool maintenance in south Texas in August! My over night tests are fine. I do use bleach, my levels are maintained per the pool calculator. My questions are: can you ever completely get rid of algae and how long does it...

Mustard Algae Questions and FC Dissipation w/o heavy sun

I have a very minor mustard algae presence in my pool. What I mean by this is that it is mostly clear, but there are a few spots, namely on the plaster right under the rock water fall, on tile inside skimmer gutters, along some grout corners on the water line tile, and in the spa which has a...

Algae battle and pool shock question

Quick message to clarify my intent. I think I came across questioning the integrity of this site and the people who post here. Quite the opposite is true! My comment about the test kits and BBB were intended to present a devil's advocate role...what would a pool store owner say if I said...

Algae battle and pool shock question

Thanks for the info. You know, I've spent a lot of time reading through info posted on this board, and I have a comment. So much of the information found here is so completely opposite of what you hear elsewhere (especially in pool stores), that it begins to be difficult to know what to...

Algae battle and pool shock question

I first bought a Pentair CYA test kit for $20 at pool store to verify CYA, it read 60. Took that to the pool store that was getting the 250 reading (which is where I bought the kit). I let them use my kit, they also got a reading of 60. They couldn't explain why they were different. I then...

Algae battle and pool shock question

Good morning....I've been monitoring this site for a while, but this is my first post... A little history: I've recently been victimized by crazy pool store test results. My pool is a year and a half old, and I use chlorine tablets. 1 year ago, CYA was at 50...now one pool store was telling...
