Sydney - ph and chlorine normal pool still green

Nice to see it's not green, just need to make it clear now. Once you get the test kit you should follow the SLAM instructions to the letter and you will end up with clear sparkling water. Did you manage to get some CYA ... despite what some are saying i would add aout 1Kg (based on your pool...

And note that Jo has been using liquid chlorine as normal method via liquid pump so the pool shop test of zero cya is likely accurate in this case.

A Big Thank You and SLAM Ending Question

The do it in the real world method is effectively the same as the OCLT, but with the SWCG running. Measure your levels at the start of the night, turn your SWCG on with pump and run at a known %, 100% keeps the maths easy. measure again as you did for the OCLT and see how much it has gone up...

A Big Thank You and SLAM Ending Question

good to hear the pool is fine, here is a thread about the dust we got in canberra yesterday from a brief shower of rain https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/australian-dust-and-ash-a-photo-of-the-crud-falling-in-the-pool.197623/

Big-W is a negative based on the website, however home hardware show it as a stocked item, just can't tell if it's stocked locally for you https://www.homehardware.com.au/baracuda-uv-shield-2kg/ Oh and they call it UV shield - but it is 100% CYA

I'll quote you both so this can be spun off to "agree to disagree" or just it's own thread. This forum has 7k+ threads in the algae forum with a significant % being slams ... out of curiosity i have read lots of them as they can be truly interesting but they nearly always contain the same data...

Kim the Astral RC1 in the pictures is a liquid chlorine pump ... what you would call a Steiner pump Rainbow Pool Products: Now a serious question, i see this or similar quoted for people with no test kit all the time, to add a nominal amount of LC once a day till the test kit arrives despite...

    Brown speckles on pool surface

my first thought was more dust till i looked at the photo on the big screen and TS is right it looks like measles .... nearly like someone used an angle grinder on the shed with the sparks directed towards your pool. Are the spots limited to one area as i wouldn't normally expect the iron...

Sydney - ph and chlorine normal pool still green

Hit post reply too fast .... I plugged some numbers into poolmath and for a 54k litre pool you will need 4.3l of chlorine to get to FC 10 from 0 and we should assume zero initially with the nice green pool to get to CYA = 30 you will need 1.6kg of dry stabiliser ... do not add to the skimmer...

Sydney - ph and chlorine normal pool still green

Jo, Thanks for that, Muswelbrook is a fair way from Sydney and you don't have a Bunnings sorry about that. Good to see your using liquid chlorine already but with no CYA in the water you would be burning it off really fast in the sun and that likely resulted in the algae bloom. I'll be...

Sydney - ph and chlorine normal pool still green

Well you can want in as much as you want but it's green and despite what your pool store may say there really isn't a quick fix that is also safe to swim in ...... Here's some things you need to do...... assuming it's green from algae * Go and take a photo of the pool and post so we can see what...

A Big Thank You and SLAM Ending Question

Hey not quite so near neighbor, i don't spot a reference in your sig to what test kit you have, we don't have a lot of choice but CCL (Clear Choice Labs – Simple. Accurate. Fast.) is the go to kit for us aussies. The dust storms along with the bushfires have been bringing in some very small...

    First SLAM

You can practice reading the same sample multiple times ..just tip it back in the test tube and re-pour into the viewing tube... i did read a tip here to mix your CYA sample as the first thing you do in the test set, make sure it's well mixed for 30 seconds as per instructions then just let it...

    First SLAM

I would pour it into a 2l or 3l jug first, sit 15l drum on a milk crate so you have room for the jug.... usually only the initial pour from the drum will result in drips down the side good luck with the slam

    Balanced Pool But Green

I'm sure the experts will chime in soon but..... Green/Algae is not a filter issue - it's a pure chemistry issue. What is your equipment list, SWCG etc? model numbers? what test kit are you using? have you run an overnight chlorine loss test? did you slam as per the full instructions here? Our...

What is this? Algae? Dirt? Dead algae?

Australia is a big broad land and you don't say were you are.... some areas have had severe dusty weather and there is even some fires around that could be dropping fine ash .... hard to make a call on algae or dirt without test results and likely an overnight chlorine loss test Over here...
