Couple of questions .. second year opening

I still think there's some cloudiness in the pool. If you notice, you can't see the bottom step clearly or the top of the main drain clearly. You can see what I mean in any of the How TFP Clear Is Your Pool? thread. I think you should do an just to make sure you don't have any hidden algae...

Let your FC drift down until it's less than 5, then add enough bring it back up to 5 ppm. You can buy the fas/dpd chlorine test and the CC reagent on their own. Here's the kit on Amazon Taylor K1515A FAS/DPD test kit for FC...

Loop Loc Covers & Pool Opening Question ?

I open in mid May, when the water is warmer than 60, and close when the water temp is less than 60, about mid November. I also keep the chlorine up around 10 ppm, testing once a week. Usually have to add chlorine every 2 weeks or so. I cover with a tarp and a pillow under it, and a leaf net on...

Couple of questions .. second year opening

Welcome back to TFP! First of all you need a good test kit -- either our TF-100 or Taylor K2006C, both of which I link in my signature. Then perform a full set of tests in this format FC CC pH TA CH CYA And post your results. We'll be better able to help you knowing that. Meanwhile...

Longest time to filter dead algae in sand filter

The Three Criteria for finishing a SLAM are 1. Pass OCLT 2. CC 0.5 or less 3. Water is gin clear If your water is cloudy at all, you haven't fulfilled the Three Criteria. Keep up with your SLAM, run the filter 24 hrs a day, and backwash as needed. We can't tell you how long it will take, but it...

pH low, TA low -- which first?

Passed OCLT this morning, so I'm officially algae free! 6.0 last evening, 6.0 this morning. I'm just getting back into the swing of things, so I came back in the house after collecting the sample, tested, then came and laid back down. After a short nap I'll go vacuum. Being virtually bedbound...

pH low, TA low -- which first?

My results this morning FC 4.0 CC 0 pH 7.5 TA 80 CYA 70 I only put 1 lb and some change in the net bag for CYA -- that's HALF what PoolMath called for to take it from 0 to 40! No idea why it's so high. I'll test it again in about a week, give it time to settle in. pH is good, TA is good, and...

pH low, TA low -- which first?

I use the color block and reagent for the TF-100.

pH low, TA low -- which first?

Tap water results FC 0.5 CC 0 pH 7.4 TA 40 Pool test 630 pm FC 3.5 CC 0.5 pH 7.3 TA 80 CYA 20 As soon as I have CYA up to 30 to 40 I'll start the SLAM. Of course after lowering pH to 7.2.

pH low, TA low -- which first?

I'm on city water. Haven't had a problem with it for 3 years, and our house plumbing is all pvc. I'll test the tap water and run another set of numbers.
  12. Wobblerlorri

pH low, TA low -- which first?

Did a pm check, here are the results FC 4.0 CC 0 pH 6.8 TA 90 Didn't test CYA yet. 24 HR wait, you know. The TA looks good now, so I added 2 lbs 11 oz borax to correct the pH, as well as 2 ppm Cl2 to bring it up to 6. Once my CYA is in line, I'll do a SLAM because the water, though crystal...

pH low, TA low -- which first?

Ran another full complement of tests this morning, here's what I got FC 6.5 CC 0 pH 6.8 color block TA 40 CYA 0 Have to wait for hubby to go to the store before I can adjust pH. Need borax, doncha know. I had to use the color block because my meter went cuckoo for coco puffs -- kept cycling...

pH low, TA low -- which first?

Trouble with testing in the rain is I'd get wet! No thanks.

pH low, TA low -- which first?

It's raining now, or I'd go test it again. I'll get the meter after it tomorrow.

pH low, TA low -- which first?

Yep, brand new reagent, clean and rinsed color block. I'm thinking I'll test it again with the pH meter. It is very low, isn't it...

pH low, TA low -- which first?

Now that we have the plumbing done, it's time to open. I ran the tests today, and got this: FC 20 (hubby added a big wallop of chlorine yesterday) CC 0 pH 6.3 (color block test) TA 40 CYA 0 I know TA and pH are connected, and that pH at high Cl2 levels is not reliable. I'm pretty sure I know...

    To open

I'm in NW Georgia, and my water temp is 40. Warmish days but COLD nights! We're still covered, but we've kept the pool chlorinated all winter, and it's stayed steady at 6 ppm chlorine. Peeked under the cover earlier this week, crystal clear. This week is supposed to be rainy and coolish (highs...

    It is "Trouble Free"

I was out doing preliminary measuring for my plumbing conversion project, and peeked in the pool under the tarp. Beautiful crystal clear water with some sediment on the floor from the tarp (I think it has holes). Hurray for TFP!! :lovetfp:

    Opening Day!

Well, it didn't hold. 8 this morning, opened a new jug of bleach, 12.5 this evening. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

    Opening Day!

FC morning was 12, evening 9. Added enough LC to bring pool up to 18, tested after 30 min circulation, FC was 12. CC was 0.0. So if it holds at 12 overnight, SLAM is done! Pool is blue and crystal clear, like all good TFP pools should be.

    Opening Day!

Pump repaired (needed a new hose), FC this morning was 13, this evening 9. Bright, sunny day all day, which accounts for the drop in FC. Brought pool back up to theoretical 18, but tomorrow evening I'm going to check that -- I'm using 6% bleach from the grocery store and I may not be getting 18...

    Opening Day!

FC in the morning yesterday was 13, in the evening 13. Looking good! I'm hoping to be able to swim this weekend!

    Opening Day!

FC was 12 last night, 13 this morning. The leaks in all the hoses aren't helping ( see my post Pump Leaking!!), because I can't run the pump 24/7 because our water went up! Is this SLAM doomed? We run it about an hour to mix the chlorine, but it's definitely not optimal. The pool is clear, and...

    Opening Day!

FC 13.5 this morning! Yay!! Mike vac'ed too. But now the dang pump is leaking at all the hose connections, so he's banging away at that. I feel bad I can't get out there and help him. Dang ankle!

    Opening Day!

Evening FC 11, brought back up to 18. Mike vac'ed the pool this evening too. He says it's a lot clearer. Maybe we'll be swimming this weekend!
  29. Wobblerlorri

    Opening Day!

Morning FC 12, brought it back to 18. Mike says it looks a lot better, til he brushed it and stirred everything up again! We're getting there!

Opening to a green swamp EVERY year

Yes, we checked every week and added chlorine if it needed it. This was on the advice of ajw22 I think, because I was so traumatized by The Unholy Mess of 2020 -- my cover had slipped midwinter, and leaves, oak tree tassels, and who knows what got in, along with rainwater. We had to completely...
