Concrete or fiberglass pool in Katy, Tx

To add...."chlorine" pool owners would be shocked to find out their pool has as much salt as "salt water" pools. All the junk you'll end up putting in your pool if you use those tabs will add a little bit of salt. After a year or two, that little bit each time adds up to a whole lot. Pool...

Austin New Pool Build - First Time Pool Owner

There is no difference. A SWG is simply a small piece of equipment that’s installed with the rest of your equipment. Total cost should be $1,500 - $2,000, but ditching the UV system saves some money. Many Texas pool builders won’t do SWG because of their ignorance. I live in Austin, we had...

    Pentair SWCG IC40

One more point...the app tells you the percentage in order to generate x amount of FC over a set number of hours when using a SWCG. You'd have to add what you lose in a day if you want to end up at 3. For example, if your starting is 1ppm, you lose 2ppm per day, and you want to end at 3, you'd...

    Planning New Pool

I’m in Austin, the pool water is too cold for maybe 1-1.5 months. I bought a 4 pack of liquid chlorine. I poured 1 gallon in. 3 weeks later, I finally needed to add more. Added 1 more gallon. My water is almost certainly going to warm up enough before I use all 4 gallons. So, I agree with...

Financial advice needed and what do I ask at first site meeting?

This. Don’t let the tax deductibility of a HELOC confuse the issue. Yes, that knocks the 3% down by your marginal tax rate, but you have to PAY taxes on the money you earn in interest. The interest you are earning on your savings is also knocked down by the same rate. So...you can ignore...

New Pool in Central Texas - Equipment Review

That doesn’t seem right. When I requested my PB install IntelliCenter instead of EasyTouch, he said the price difference was nominal and didn’t even ask for more money from me. I would ask for the itemized cost of EasyTouch + Screenlogic vs IntelliCenter. Make them spell out the costs and we...

How is my spa spillover plumbed???

I shut my makeup valve. I schedule a spillover once a day to refresh the water. What’s the value of having it open all day? Without automation, yes. With, no

Pool in Austin - Getting excited about the idea

Hello from Austin! SWG is the way to go. Some Austin builders won’t do it all, almost all will tell you it’s not a good idea. Don’t listen to them. Tell them it’s a hard requirement. Plenty of them, including the one we went with, will do it if you insist. If you understand the chemistry...

    New Pool in Austin!

I maintain my own pool. It’s easy. I spend 5-10 mins a day. Pool companies probably put chlorine in because: 1) They come once a week. By the time they realize the SWG has been set too low, algae has formed and now it can’t keep up. 2) Their cell is undersized (instead of the 2x size...

If you are technical, you’ll really enjoy IntelliCenter, it has a lot more capabilities.

Sugar Land Pool Bid (Houston, Texas)

I’m really surprised. My PB didn’t even charge me any more $$ to switch to IntelliCenter when I requested it. Maybe they have some old EasyTouch inventory they are trying to get rid of.

. +1!!! Our neighbor’s pools are like that. Ours? 85 today, and I’ve been using the heater a lot. My suggestion is to make sure you have room for chiller on your pad and a spot in your plumbing for one, and then add it later if you feel like you need it. Every pool is different.

All of my IOS devices connect directly to IntelliCenter while at home. If I want to connect while off my home network, I need to go through their servers. I’ve only used my PC once...I’m not sure. The IOS apps are great, I haven’t ever found a need to use a PC.

Sugar Land Pool Bid (Houston, Texas)

Yes, I had to tell my PB about IntelliCenter too. PBs are construction people, that's it. They also are not going to operate your pool, you are. Same reason they don't like SWG...only potential downsides for them, with no upside. IntelliCenter is still the way to go IMO.

None. I'm almost always home when I use the app and therefore connect directly to IntelliCenter, bypassing their servers. A also have Ecobee thermostats. I love them when they work, but their servers are also down a lot. The problem with Ecobee is there is no connect locally option, so...

I love mine. There are some minor bugs, but it’s more than worth it. Just like most tech items now, every time Pentair releases a new update, it downloads and installs it automatically

Finishing up west of Austin *Plastered and Filled*

Hello from Austin. I would go with IntelliCenter instead of EasyTouch. IntelliCenter is Pentair’s latest automation product. Just like you wouldn’t buy a 10 year old iPhone, you shouldn’t go with their old technology. It should be around the same price too.
