The Monster that Lurks Over my Pool

They vary by size (of course). You'll need a concrete footer around the perimeter. I think our 36' by 36' was roughly $9,500. Price will depend on the roof design, number of doors, etc.

    rules for inground placement

My property value has been steadily declining since I bought so the pool had substantial impact on what I had been paying. My homeowners insurance was a wash as well. I did add an umbrella policy with the pool (& a teenage driver). It was fairly inexpensive - the umbrella policy that is...

Help with plaster patch, acid wash order

19 years? Water getting behind the plaster? Might be time to replaster entire pool? Bump (for the experts to chime in).

    Pool Finish

Re: POOL FINISH Never ask a TFP guy/gal for a photo of their pool! Hope these help you get an idea. Our pool is also a 15 x 30 but a touch deeper (3.5 to 5.5 ft). pool_overcast (640x480).jpg[/attachment:37z0vp73] pool_sun...

    Pool Finish

Re: POOL FINISH I have the Marbletite marquis finish in Bluestone. The finish itself is not rough. The bluestone color (essentially blue and black colored quartz) adds a nice light blue water color - a bit bluer than aqua. The distribution of the additive to the mix is important. We have a...

Central Florida here...Just signed our contract, so excited!

Re: Central Florida here...Just signed our contract, so exci I discovered - after the fact - that the control wires from the irrigation timer/control box in the garage (front yard) and several irrigation lines ran right in front of across the concrete patio where the digging began. Since the...

Getting Finished - (Pool Build Central FL)

Re: "Deck Texture Applied!!!! - Pool Build Central Florida Another vote for bronze. It will hide the mildew. Also, the white enclosures seem to be more noticeable (actually the only one in our neighborhood really sticks out).

Central Florida here...Just signed our contract, so excited!

Re: Central Florida here...Just signed our contract, so exci Congrats! Our quote didn't include the women in bikinis. We took the plunge last year. Don't get discouraged - the build will take longer than you expect. Good call on the enclosure. It really increases the amount of time we...

    Death and Taxes

In NE FL, the permits have an approximate cost & can be checked online by anyone. The county appraiser came out this spring to measure/evaluate the pool & enclosure - double checking to make I didn't add an HGTV style backyard paradise!

    New Construction in Florida

A much faster process than our shotcrete pool - although I'd have been a touch anxious as the pool was hoisted over the house. A few palm trees and you will have a great backyard retreat! -Taz

Replastering? How much money are we talking here?

Guamgal - You are probably looking at a nice bit of change to get it done properly since you are in Guam. I'm sure someone has a cousin (& btw - it seems everyone is related - a friend at my wife's work remarked that it was almost impossible to date there) who can do it on the side but you...

What Kind of Grass to use in FL?

Well, we decided to give zoysia (empire is the variety up here) a try in our back yard where the ground was excavated and where the grass died (busted irrigation system & just overall neglect). It has smaller blades and a tighter weave than Floratam St. Augustine. One neighbor installed it...

    STILL -More than Halfway there

It's DONE! Yep. Brushed and cleaned the filter twice yesterday to get rid of the plaster dust. Woke up this morning to a perfectly clear pool. Time to put out the patio furniture! Already using the TF-100 test kit to monitor levels & adjust according to the Marbletite guidelines. PH is...

Thanks - my wife has the eye for matching stuff. Concrete pavers (Stonehurst design/Riverwood color) and coping (Sandstone color) are Tremron products http://tremron.com/preview/products/ourproducts2-38pavers.html made in FL. Pavers have a "slate look" texture - would look great in grey. The...

Re: More than Halfway there - DONE We've been shivering with antici ...... ....... pation waiting for our pool to be finished. And it is - more or less. Timing is everything and waiting 3 weeks for the enclosure sub to start was painful. A quality job - the inspector was pleased. But...

Re: Halfway there Bruce - Really appreciate your input. I'll talk to the builder on Monday. I looked at the calculations in the permit pack & want to double check his flow rate and filter choice (the PLM-150 seems better suited). The max dynamic head calculated is ~40 ft; he is using 3"...

Re: Halfway there Didn't think of the 2 speed pump (& my wife is an environmental engineer). I'm leaning towards keeping the 1 HP pump as we will likely add solar w/in a year & need the additional capacity. A 3/4 HP pump wouldn't handle the additional head needed. Everything is wired in -...

Electrictian coming. What extras do I need?

Silly question: Assuming that your "extra" are not in the contract - would you ask him/her to do the additional work and pay the extra cost through the pool builder (who contracted the work) or pay on the spot? Just learned that the contracted electrian is coming out tomorrow morning! Taz

    STILL -More than Halfway there

Great site - wish I'd surfed here MUCH earlier in the process. Our pool was "shot" on Friday and plumbed today so much of the pre-handwringing is over. Nevertheless, I'd thought I'd offer a photo of the newly shot pool with our specs. We decided to build a basic pool with no bells & whistles...
