Thanks Dave, thats what I was afraid of! My reason for asking is that we looked at a house to buy with an existing vinyl lined pool. I'm aware it really does have its upsides but I have two dogs that I don't want to worry about scratching or tearing it up if they decide to hop in!

Thanks for the info CurrentKing, I agree that it is much more cost effective to buy a house with a pool already installed. We have only seen two houses that had pools though and one had a vinyl liner (complete no go with two water dogs and I believe it is just as costly to convert it to gunite)...

Anyone have experience converting a vinyl lined pool to gunite? I'm aware you can do fiberglass too but that really decreases the size from what I understand. Saw a roundabout online that it would be 20-30k to fill in the existing walls with gunite.. at that point just get a new pool! Any help...

We are in the process of choosing between a few homes to purchase in the N Central Florida area. One has a pool, not our ideal set up but very nice. Other two would need pools installed :cool:. We have contacted a few pool companies looking for quotes and many refuse to even give a ballpark...

Which company did you go with? I also appreciate the detailed information and I am in N Central FL and currently starting the search!

May I ask how the build went and what companies you received quotes from? We are just outside of Gainesville and currently looking for PB to get quotes from. Hoping to stay under 30k for small-medium kidney or rectangle with small sunshelf and possible SWG.

Any pictures of the finished product? Also, would you be willing to share a general range/ rough number of the cost? Looking into builds in northern florida at our new home!
