Need drop in pool light suggestions

So there are some large floating pool lights on Amazon that don’t disco or anything strange, just downward lighting. I got one for about 75. I think it was Challenger brand but I saw others recently called Blue Wave or Blue water maybe. If you have no other option it at least works. Is the...

Using a floating chlorinator while on vacation

I know this thread is older, but just throwing in my .02 from before having a swg. Take your pole with attachment, extend it, find a spot to lay it across an area of the pool (corner near return perhaps). Use old shoelace in hole of floater lid, loop it around pole, tie. Slide lace to the...

No chlorine after adding 5 jugs of bleach

You mention it is fresh. Are you taking that based on expiration date on the jugs or the fact it just came from a retailer? I ask because Ace Hardware had 12% bleach jugs in 4 packs last year (2.50 a jug sale). It turned out they were near their expiration and were basically 3% bleach when...

Air hiss between basket and impeller

Pool light taking on water, use pool lube?

Just to close this up for now, the new gasket was tighter probably due to not having been taken off and on over and over again. It is still leaking but I think I have a clear reason why. When mated and tightened down, I can see that it is not flush on one edge. I think the light was bent in...

Slamming for the First Time - Massive Chlorine Demand

Kill breaker so you don't kill yourself. Look for Phillips screw at top middle of light. Unscrew it till out (might be able to do from deck if you lay down and have long arms). Lean top of light out and pull it up (probably will float up naturally. It has a little lip on the bottom that...

Slamming for the First Time - Massive Chlorine Demand

Make sure you pull out the light and check/clean the housing behind it. Also check ladder steps (bottoms) and anything else that could be holding algae and not visible. May be fine, but worth not skipping. Really wish that was in slam instructions.

Pool light taking on water, use pool lube?

OEM replacement gasket on the way, should be here Wednesday. I will not let this light get the best of me... well more than it already has.

New pool owner with green/dark green/blue stain(?)

If you have Amazon prime and don't mind paying a higher rate for it, buy a 1 lb or 2 lb bag of ascorbic acid. I think my 2 lb order was like 15$ or so. When you get it, take about 2 oz of it and pour it on the highest step in one spot with your pump off. It is not enough to mess up your FC...

    New skimmer install question

Someone else can speak to the physics and water tension/speed, but I will say I get some leaves that stick on the cover/surround that would likely not with a 45 degree throat. That said, doesn't kill me either.

Pool light taking on water, use pool lube?

Ok, didn't work but it seemed to fit properly now as the gasket mated into the groove of the metal housing. I would now suspect that they bought the wrong gasket before they installed it improperly. We replaced by matching the same one. I see the part online for ~30 when Leslie's gasket was...

Why is he still texting you? I suspect you are paying him to do so. I would agree with others and say you either need to go with him or this group. You can trust him or the people here. Right now you are not doing either. Spend some time looking at other threads that went from green to...

I should mention it got even more blue by the evening but reflections did not make for good pictures. I have some clouding from jack magic but am starting bleach again while at a ph of 7 currently. My wife and kids think I am amazing at the pool stuff. I agree.

Disgusted and Confused on What to Do Next

Sometimes I take a count, rinse everything out, then say "ummm... What was the number again?" Other times my kids are talking to me and I just count out loud and louder than them until they walk away. Btw, I use a Dixie type plastic cup from my office. So I can test again or test anything...

So it took 74 drops to clear. I think it would be impossible unless there is another chlorine source. You should get 5ppm per gallon.

    Stubborn Algae

For a Taylor 2006 basic kit for $52 from Amazon, when doing a slam with any kind of cya over 40, will result in a need for another bottle of 0871. 2 oz of that is another $10+. So, factor that into "savings". I should have bought a TFT kit. Live and learn.

    Lap Pool Renovation with Aquabright

Re: Lap Pool Renovation with Aquabright 0 CC means you have 0 ppm combined chlorine. Basically CC is the byproduct of free chlorine when it has taken care of something in your pool that would result in algae. Your previous 1.5 ppm meant it was dealing with stuff. CC of 0 is the one 0 you...

    Lap Pool Renovation with Aquabright

Re: Lap Pool Renovation with Aquabright Depends on how old the bleach is already. Date stamps are on the bottles just like food. Generally look for '15 179' or something to see it is from the 179th day of 2015. When buying look through them as last night I saw 145 and 197 on the same shelf...

I guess someone else can make the call on that, but I do know cleaning them with water (hose pistol thing on jet) works pretty well. They look white/clean after I do them. I just have to spend extra time on the bottom areas as they tend to have more green.

Pool light taking on water, use pool lube?

Took it out again. I have this: Pentair Parts for AmeriQuartz Pool Lighting - From PoolCenter.com I may be missing on the pic but is there an o-ring that goes between the metal housing and the glass cover? There appears to be a groove in the housing lip where they mate together. If not, I am...
