Using salt level to estimate cya

Hi All.. Here in south alabama, for the month of june, we are up to over 6" of rain. To avoid using my cya test kit so much can I estimate the cya based on salt level? For example: The measured salt level is 3200 ppm ±200 The measured cya is 70 ±10 In a give amount of time I measure salt to...

    No CYA (on purpose)

Hi All. After 2 years of having the pump off and no cover I recently reopened the pool. I'm getting really good at turning a frog and mosquito pond back into clear sparkling delight! :) I was thinking about removing the swg and manually dosing the pool. Currently there is no cya or salt and I...

    Pump Motor Cross Reference

Hi all. My pump motor has bit the dust. I'm looking for a replacement. The cheapest I have found is $289 plus shipping. I'd like to find a cross reference that may be a bit cheaper. Can anyone help? Or, is there a cheaper place to find an original replacement? Specs: Hayward Super Pump 2...

    Chlorine life

I'm about to install a stenner pump in my g/f's pool. It's approx 30,000 gal. I also plan to purchase chlorine by the 55 gallon drum at 12%+ strength. Some questions. Question 1 All things being equal... Drum #1 has both 2" bung caps off so the chlorine is open to the air Drum #2 is sealed...

    testing chlorine strength using 10,000:1

Just to be sure I'm reading this correct. I mixed 1ml chlorine in 100ml distilled h2o then mixed 1ml of that in another 100ml distilled h2o. I took 10 ml of the final solution (10,000:1) and tested it using the FAS-DPD method. It took 11 drops make it clear. So, does that mean the chlorine %...

Graduated cylinder incorrect, or am I doing it wrong?

I just pruchased some 1mL plastic pipettes and some glass graduated beakers for testing chlorine concentrating using 10,000:1 dilution. Just for kicks, I took a 1 mL pipette and filled up the graduated containers that come with the tfp test kit. I filled the pipette up to the 1 mL mark and...

Funniest/ most ridiculous thing the pool store has told you

I was shocking my pool and the cya was around 70 so it required a lot of chlorine. Also, I wasn't able to maintain the shock level because of work so the process took longer. So this one day the pool store guy said, "you sure are using a buncha chlorine." I told him I have mustard algae to...

    Is my math correct?

If the pool is approx 16'x32' grecian and the level rises 1"... That one inch of water adds: 16x32x.083 = ~ 42.5 cu feet x 7.48 gallons in 1 cu foot = ~ 318 gallons Aside from the pool not being exactly rectangular, is my math approximately correct? Thanks.

Mustard algae can grow in FC > 41

I'm not sure if it was coincidence that I had pollen and mustard algae at the same time, or if my pollen was really MA. Here is that thread It all started with an experiment to see how low I could get my FC without problems. At FC around 7 or so, I got what I thought to be pollen. I felt it...

    A story

So, I had a huge amount of pollen in the pool. Gathered on the floor like the sands of a desert and stuccoed the sides like an adobe hut. It truly was a sigh to behold. After an hour and a half of painstakingly vacuuming the sides and ever so slowly and delicately sweeping the bottom as to not...

    Anyone use CYA from Walmart?

I looked at the label and it states 100% cyanuric acid. The price was $11.99 for 3 lbs. My pool stores sell 99% for $17 to $20 for 4 lbs. Anyone use the walmart brand?

    Help with pump please

My girlfriends parents pool pump bearings are about to seize. I am not sure of the size of the pool, but is is big. From the steps to the other end is at least 35' and I'd say another 35' from that side to the deep end. It has got to be at least 35,000 gallons. The house/pool was probably built...

    Is this too much pump?

Here is my pool thread. The plumbing is approx 10' from the side of the pool and probably 2-3' below the water's surface. The pipes are 1.5" There is a single 1.5" return directly under the (1) skimmer I am going to put a 1.5" T and direct the water to both ends for flow. The sand filter is a...

    help identifying light

Here is the main thread. I think the light was turned on when the water level was below the light. The brown resin has melted and is now runny. Pool Star is embossed on the outer chrome ring. This light has 6 screws and a mounting ring that seals the gasket. All of the Pool Star parts...

New to the forum and pool disaster area. pic heavy

Hi all. I'm new to the forum and would like to say thanks for all the great info on this site. I have already learned a lot, and I don't even have an operational pool yet. The record setting heat here in South Alabama has inspired me to change the status of the pool from a frog farm to a...
