Going out of town for 3 days. Pucks or shock level?

My CYA is a little over 30 and I'm leaving Friday afternoon to come back Sunday. I wasn't sure how quickly the pucks dissolved to keep FC where it needs to be.

    Levels are in.

    Agreed, use the sock method.

    Vacuum the pool...

I think it would depend on the size and quantity of the waste. If you were vacuuming a swamp, it would probably be wise to vacuum to waste, whereas if you had some dirt collecting and maybe a leaf you would vacuum to filter.

I've got a newbie question for you guys. What situation calls for adding salt? How much? How often?

    Shocking my pool tonight

So my CC has crept up to something over 0.5 ppm and I decide to bring FC to shock level. For a CYA of 50 that's 20 FC.. we plug that into the calculator and.. 3 JUGS OF 10%?! That's going to cost me $12 in bleach! ...and then I remember the pool store sold me a bunch of **** for $80+ that...

Has anyone made a 'Pool School' for PVC?

I think I want to redo the entire thing. Could anyone recommend a foam matting to put the pump on? It vibrates something fierce on that deck. Heck, I could move it to the side of the house next to the AC unit. The decking backs up to the slab. As long as there's no distance constraints?

Has anyone made a 'Pool School' for PVC?

Here you are: http://imgur.com/a/7qR6I For instance, what is the purpose of the fitting on the return line? And what would need to be done to replace the valve in front of the pump? Everything just looks like it's poorly thought out.

Has anyone made a 'Pool School' for PVC?

How would I best accomplish that without getting glue everywhere? I'm not sure how rigid the pipe will be to get the fitting in between. Or would I need two of those joiner fittings? I'm not sure there's enough of a horizontal run for all of that. And I'm too proud of these numbers I just...

Has anyone made a 'Pool School' for PVC?

As someone who's never done any PVC work, I wouldn't mind some how-to's or a fitting glossary on PVC fittings. I'm looking to add something inline to my hard piped waste outlet so I'll know if something's going wrong with the multiport valve and am not sure what the best route would be...

    Permanent Backwash/Waste Piping

The previous owners had the backwash hard piped out behind the yard underground. I wouldn't recommend it without some kind of flow visibility. I lost a few inches of water last week to backwash (I assume) from a worn spider gasket. I originally thought I had a straight up leak/hole until I...

I just discovered this wonderful place

Had to update after tonight's add was pretty close. ph - 7.6 FC - 8 CC - <0.5 CYA - 60 (didn't retest) CH - 220 TA - 100 New filter gauge from TFTestkits came in! It's frickin' sweet. Try to look past the installer's pipe work. I still have some spots on the bottom that are being pretty...

Anyone with screen door repair experience?

My dog tore up the bottom section of screen in our patio door, and I replaced it tonight. The screen packaging recommended 0.125 sized spline and that did the job I guess, but it doesn't feel like the screen will hold up to much pressure without the spline popping out. Does it swell over time...

Is a non-zero reading on the filter pressure gauge anything to be concerned about when the pump is off? It just seems odd that it would hold at close to running pressure.

Just an update. I'm getting much more consistent results after doing two slightly heaping scoops of the DPD powder. My guess is the first few tests were under saturated and came out with a lower reading. My latest tests have been showing the drift from 9.5 to 9 to 8.5.

I saw another post where dropping too fast could affect results, so I'll keep that in check for my next test. I'm *this* close to getting a speedstir. So nice.

I seem to keep overshooting my bleach add. Tested last night at 5ppm, and added 6.5 cups of 8.25% bleach to hit 7ppm. This morning tested at 9.5 ppm, which is exactly what I hit with the first treatment from 2ppm. If I adjust the calc to match, it comes out to an 8k gallon pool.. which is less...

Poolskim delivered and installed! That thing gulps down water with vigor. Any tips on finding a leak in a hose? My cleaner will stop working sometimes but all it takes is bringing in the hose until one spot (somewhere) gets submerged and then starts working again.

So these didn't strike me as worrisome as they were there when I got the house 5 months ago and haven't changed since.. but yeah.. what are my options here? The return fitting doesn't appear to be leaking at all during operation. I don't guess that counts for anything.
