Fine sediment continually returns after thorough vacuums

Some background first to try to save some face. This Is my second Intex pool the first one I had five years this when I bought three years ago the previous one liner faded out so quickly even though I kept the Chlorine in line so this one I just wanted to keep the water clear and try to keep...

Fine sediment continually returns after thorough vacuums

I'm not trying to hijack this thread but we "seem" to have extremely similar symptoms. Between myself and the original poster I really hope one of us gets to the bottom of this sediment issue. I should know a lot more by Sunday/Monday time frame. My pool is almost full. I'll give it a good vac...

Yet another rusty Intex pool thread

Just remember Intex pools are cheap and there is a reason for it. It doesn't mean you shouldn't buy one but just realize what you are buying if you do. If I can get 5 years from my $700 pool I'm fine with that. However 3 years is too short, but with some preventive action 5 years is attainable...

Fine sediment continually returns after thorough vacuums

He did scrub the liner with a toothbrush. I don't scrub mine with a toothbrush because I am too lazy but I too keep the walls and bottom clean. What type of algae is invisible?

Yet another rusty Intex pool thread

I think the most important place to seal is where the hole is for the spring catch at the top. Even though water can drain out the entire inside of my legs were rust from top to bottom. I can assure you they weren't full of water. We must keep water from ever entering the legs.

Yet another rusty Intex pool thread

    1) I have the Ultra Frame 22' x52" this is year 3 and 2 legs rusted through at the bottom. 2) I bought 2 new legs (stupid expensive- $40 ea. how bad is that?) 3) 6-7 more were not far behind 4) I drained the pool today to replace the 2 legs and I pulled out 6-7 and turned them upside down. No...

Fine sediment continually returns after thorough vacuums

I used to be in the industry but not anymore. I never saw this in any pool over a period of 6 years and 100's and 100's of pools. I truely thought I understood pretty much everything but this one has tested me to no end- I kinda like the challenge but I kinda don't. BTW- I sent many many people...

Fine sediment continually returns after thorough vacuums

Same issue here- I have battled this for two years- believe, I have done it all- vac to waste using pump and vacuumed just using gravity and the stuff is accumulating within hours. I have tried EVERYTHING! Something is precipitating out of the water. My plan now is to use a sequestering agent...

Can a degrading marcite pool surface contribute to the calcium level increasing?

Sorry I have been awol, tore a calf muscle playing tennis so I spent 10 days or so laying around and I wasn't thinking about this pool. Regarding the CH rise of 120 v.s. 95 you are correct. Regarding volcano's and drips, yes I have those. Regarding putting the acid in one spot, yes to some...

Can a degrading marcite pool surface contribute to the calcium level increasing?

It looks like calcium hydroxide is basically lime.

Can a degrading marcite pool surface contribute to the calcium level increasing?

Only the PH rises over time. The ALK drops because I am putting acid in it so then I have to compensate for that as well. No one puts anything in the pool other than myself and we do not use Cal-Hypo. I did read on the net that marcite has calcium hydroxide in it and that is does leach into...

Can a degrading marcite pool surface contribute to the calcium level increasing?

I haven't visited for awhile, as you can see I am in the industry. This past year I have directed dozens of pool owners to this site because it is the single most informative and accurate site on the internet. Here is my scenario- this is an indoor pool the water was replaced on 7/1/13. I...

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

That's true but believe the pool was started in June of 2013 or possibly before.

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

A picture paints a thousand words. SALT+ maybe some calcium is what I am seeing in the picture. This is not what's forming on the bottom of your pool and in the skimmer opening. So like I said before, as far as what's going on well below the water level which is what your original question was...

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

He has 3 skimmer pictures- a before acid wash, a during acid wash, and after. You can see a grey patch on the right side near the front lip. It is gone after he puts acid on it. When we use the word scale we typically think of calcium right away. I question whether this is calcium but something...

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

Dang, you just threw a curve ball, "calcium looking, deposits on glass". Well, no that would have to come from the water in some way. BTW, since you are in Fl. and Jack's Magic is there too. I would call them. I speak to them fairly often and they are most helpful. He will do a water test for...

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

As stated above in post 11, I believe efflorescence may be the most likely cause. I have been doing my own research and talking with our trusted restoration company. He agrees that this is a strong possibility. If it were me I would contact the pool builder and ask him to come out and look at it...

Proof that hope exists for the Pool Industry Professions

On my desk today is a copy Service Industry News. On the front page it reads, "Cyanuric Acid & Chlorine: It's all about the ratio". As I read it it is spot on and in agreement with what is provided here. The best part is, it sites the extensive research done by Richard Falk in this field, I...

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

MWigs- I realize you stated what your chem readings were back in post #1 but if you don't mind could you test them again and tell us how you are testing them. It sure sounds like scale but how and why is a mystery.

    Understanding the FC/CYA chart

chem geek- thank you for providing the additional links, I will be digesting them further. As I mentioned before I've been the industry for just 2 years but I've taken it very seriously to understand the deeper issues that we deal with. I've questioned our methods from early on. I took the CPO...

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

Do you think the guidelines found here, http://www.troublefreepool.com/content/154-start-up-new-pool-plaster were followed when your pool was new during start-up? I don't think you mentioned the size of your pool or the turnover rate, but you may resolve the issue with brushing every day for...

    Understanding the FC/CYA chart

Gentlemen(the 3 of you) thank you for your insight, I understand completely. Just a thought....what about an addendum of sorts on the FC/CYA chart page which would cover these few additional points and maybe one or two more that I didn't bring up. I realize this info. may all be here on the...

    Understanding the FC/CYA chart

chem geek-good stuff for me to absorb- thank you. Now a question or two. Could you send me the test kit which will allow me to test for "active" chlorine, which is equal to FC minus chlorinated isocyanurates? Since it would seem that is what we are really needing to do- is to maintain a "safe"...

    Understanding the FC/CYA chart

Re: thoughts on bio-active cya reducer 200 CYA? The pool company said 3-5ppm was Ok? My chart doesn't even go up to 200 ppm but it does say 12ppm @100ppm is the target and 7 is the minimum. So based on that and a CYA of 200 shouldn't the minimum be 14ppm. I hope I'm not hijacking this thread...

    Understanding the FC/CYA chart

I am either miss-understanding your statement or I have missed the boat in my understanding of the FC/CYA chart provided here. My understanding is that FC is FC no matter how much CYA is in the water. HOWEVER the more CYA that is in the water the more FC is required in order to be effective...

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

I'll explain where my last line of thinking was regarding my questions. Based on your previous remarks and those of others, could this be actually be leaching through rather than being from the water itself?

    Still Scaling with Negative CSI

Does the scale appear anywhere other than the bottom surfaces? Is there any on vertical surfaces? BTW using Jack's Copper and scale can be a challenge because you need to be able to by-pass your heater. You need to drop the PH way down while it does it's thing and it's not cheap either. (takes...

    Thoughts on bio-active cya reducer

Re: thoughts on bio-active cya reducer Just read the part about FC should be 5ppm and 2-3ppm being ideal. Hum...going to have to think that one through. I REALLY hesitate to bring this up but here it goes. If I have to run the FC dangerously low to do this treatment for 10 long days, would it...

    Thoughts on bio-active cya reducer

Re: thoughts on bio-active cya reducer Boys- I am not selling this stuff. I just found this thread and immediately called them. It should be available by mid to late March. They claim a 8oz. application will reduce CYA in a 30,000 gallon pool from 100ppm down to 20-30 ppm. They said it takes...

I'd like to understand rust stains better.

If possible, a picture might help but I realize that taking pictures of stains can be challenging. Apart from that you might tell us where the stains are and what kind of pattern if any, you see. For instance if there is a area of your pool that does not have as much circulation you might see...
