    California Drought

    I'm a long way from California, but I'm pretty sure there is a nasty fault line running through it. Earthquakes + Nukes = Bad. ... (just ask Japan) Where I live we have a very similar problem with droughts. We where on water restrictions for years and literally no water flowed out to sea from...

    Green algae appearing in corners of my pool

    I have just purchased another set of Reagent refills for my test kit from these guy's (I also live in Australia). http://www.poolvacparts.com/pool-accessories-chemical-test-kits-and-strips.html I highly recommend purchasing a decent test kit. order extra Taylor DPD Powder #R-0870 , Cyanuric...

    Algae again!

    Just an update. Pool is still looking perfect!!! Have been using the pool quite a bit because of the extreme heat we have been getting and the water balance has been fine. Only minimal FC loss with heavy use and full sun. I have been keeping the FC at 10ppm just to be sure (CYA 65). :cheers:

    After Some CYA Advice

    I couldn't find anyone unfortunately. I forgot to mention. If you order the Taylor 2006 I would recommend ordering a couple of extra reagents at the same time. Specifically I would order R-0871-C Taylor FAS-DPD Titrating Reagent (Chlorine) 60ml #R-0871-C and R-0013-C Taylor Cyanuric Acid...

    Algae again!

    Fantastic!!! I have left the SWG @ %100 and running for 8 hours a day to maintain a FC level of 20 for the last 3 days and the pool is sparkling clear. Looking back at the photos I have taken since owning the house the pool has never been fully clear like it is now. I suspect I have had mustard...

    After Some CYA Advice

    Thank you Chem geek and Jblizzle. That has explained the CYA vs FC very clearly.

    Algae again!

    FC stayed at 27 all night. Have put the pump back to auto so is now running from 10am until 6pm with the SWG at 100% I have changed the timer for the vantage in fool cleaner to come on for 15min every hour bewteen 9am and 4pm. This is to make sure the water never stays stagnant during warm...

    Algae again!

    Ok so I've almost finished Slamming the pool. I have a question regarding the Mustard Slam. I had my FC at 40.5 at 9pm and tested first thing this morning and it was at 36. This was after maintaining the the FC at 40 all day since about 8am. I dosed the pool back up to around 42 before I left...

    Algae again!

    Yes it's quite possible that I have had MA the whole time. Each time I have slammed the pool I have only done it to the regular levels. This time once I'm done slamming I'm dosing it up to MA levels for a good while, putting all the pool equipment in the pool, covering it and making sure...

    Algae again!

    Even Mustard Algae? I test the pool everyday and I can assure you FC never got below 6.5ppm I test the CYA every week and the results don't vary.

    Algae again!

    Now I'm a little confused. After running the pump over night and all day the water has cleared up again without me adding any extra chlorine. I have taken photos of the pool and filter for you to look at. I cleaned this filter yesterday. So this is the result of 1 night and 1 afternoon of...

    Algae again!

    No I think I have the 2006. just to confirm testing for FC correctly. I fill the tube to 10mm add 2 scoops of Taylor DPD powder. add reagent Taylor FAS-DPD Titrating Reagent (Chlorine) 60ml #R-0871-C untill the water is clear. count the drops and multiply by 0.5 = FC in ppm. This is the...

    Algae again!

    Thanks for the responses. I discovered the pool green in the late evening yesterday when I tested the water. I have removed the cover and am tempted to shred it and put it in the recycle bin. Them water temperature is around the 31°C - (88°f). I have been very careful to remove as much pollen...

    Algae again!

    Hi all, After testing and maintaining my pool chemicals by the book I still seem to have somehow another algae outbreak. I haven't even used the pool in over 2 weeks, the cover has been on and the filter running 8 hours a day. My latest test results are as follows. FC=7 CC=0 PH=7.6 TA=65...

    Trying to keep up with filtration

    This is a link to the tree that is causing most of the pollen http://www.abc.net.au/reslib/201308/r1153919_14486185.jpg The pool is full of fine strands that clump in fine mounds on the pool floor only to become a cloud if disturbed. Thanks for the sock idea, I'll give it a go

    Trying to keep up with filtration

    The particles seem to sink fairly quickly. When I turn on the cleaning jets all the fine particles become suspended and I can catch a fair amount with the hand skimmer. I also have a solar blanket over the pool when not in use during the day (almost all the time), but I still manage to find...

    Trying to keep up with filtration

    Hi All, I have posted previously regarding a pool which constantly has a green looking shade to the water. It was been determined that pollen from my nearby (overhanging) Gum tree is the cause of my water colour problems. If I add some water clarifying liquid (Polysheen Plus by Bioguard) and...

    Cover = algae

    Just some further info. I just cleaned out the filter cartridge and the waste water is a very murky yellow colour. So I'd say you a correct with the pollen theory.

    Cover = algae

    Thank you for your analysis. Yes the fiberglass is blue all the way down. It would make sense to me if it where pollen or even discoloration from the gum tree leaves constantly falling in. The cover is back on now at night to try and keep it clean. I'm going to periodically turn the in floor...

    Cover = algae

    Just went out and pulled back the cover (I put in on last night as an experiment). I ran the filter all night with the in-floor cleaner turned off. The water is now very clear and looking good, however there is a lot of dirt etc on the floor of the pool. So I'm guessing half my battle is trying...

    Cover = algae

    I will take a photo of the water once its in full sun today. I can see no visible algae, the water looks like a cloudy green. Water temperature goes down to around 27-28 at night and the heater turns off at at 32 during the day. I have had the solar cover off since the 29th of Dec because I...

    Cover = algae

    Pool is turning green again!!!!!!!! FC level hasn't got low at all and the CC's have been 0 since the slam. currently at FC=8 CC=0 PH=7.4 TA=80 CH=400 CYA=85 Please help me before the pool gets filled in.

    Cover = algae

    Nope no CC's either. I plan on laying the cover on the lawn and hitting it with the pressure cleaner and some bleach. I don't want it anywhere near the pool until after this hot spell. Great so I can stop adding bleach and hopefully the FC level drops a little in the next couple of days. I'll...

    Cover = algae

    PAGirl - thankyou, I am going off of the test result pre-slamming. I had the FC level at 35 since about 2pm and made sure it was at 35 again at 9pm. Scrubbed the pool and cleaned the filter. Overnight the water has cleared up and the FC level is still at 35 (7am). The sun is just about to hit...

    Cover = algae

    Little more sun in this shot. FC is now 35. I added 450ml of acid so PH should be around the 7.2 mark.
