Can you remove the filter and disconnect the return line, so you would be vacuuming through the pump/filter and onto the ground instead of the pool. You'll need to vacuum pretty fast and you'll lose some water.

I think it's just a low-quality valve. It's a shame that this is the only one that fits the sand filter!

Kevin, I had the same problem and it went away when I replaced the o-ring. I used Amazon. Get more than one, it wasn't very long until the o-ring got deformed again. You can also check the o-rings in all of the upstream unions. Them ensure that the unions themselves are screwed in pretty...
