    Opened today...

Thanks for the replies. I went ahead and tied off some nylons with a little CYA to bump it up. Then will add a little Borax and acid this weekend. Need to vaccum it good first before I post a pic, Butterfly. ;)

    Opened today...

to a nice sparkly pool. :-D We brought it up to shock level in October, covered and have done nothing to it since. Now if the water temp wasn't 60 degrees, it'd be perfect to jump right in. lol Here's my opening numbers: FC-5.5 CC- 0 ph- 7.3 TA- 80 CYA- 40 Borates- 30 Should I go ahead and...

    TA before adding borates ?

I used my leaf net to get the clumps out and smashed them up with my fingers. It's only been an hour+ but I went ahead and checked the pH & its 7.8 so I'll check it again after dinner and it it doesn't go any higher, I'll let the kiddo swim. Thanks. :)

    TA before adding borates ?

Well I went ahead and added the borax & MA. It of course made the water a milky color and there are some 'balls' of borax on the pool floor, how long till that dissolves? I'm going to brush again later to see if I can break them up. How long before swimming after adding the borax & MA?

    TA before adding borates ?

Yep, planning on using Borax & MA to add borates. Right now I'm more concerned about the water being slightly cloudy, not really sparkly like it was. I've been turning the return jet straight up to aerate during the day, could it be that the slight cloudiness is from not having good filtration...

    TA before adding borates ?

ok, so I have my TA down to 80, the ph is 7.2 so waiting on that to come back up. I just walked out on the deck for something and noticed that the water looks a tiny bit cloudy. What's up with that? I tested and got these numbers, the FC was a bit low, I think. FC 2.5 CC 0 pH 7.2 TA 80 CYA 35

    TA before adding borates ?

Thanks for the links. After aerating & splashing around in there today, we got the TA down to 100 and the pH back up to 7.4 when I checked it a few minutes ago.

    TA before adding borates ?

Thanks Waterbear. I found that right after I posted. I put in a dose of muriatic acid this morning to bring down ph and turned the eye on the returns straight up to break the water. We've been in splashing around today too. Going to test again after a few hours.

    TA before adding borates ?

You mean if I don't adjust the TA first?

    TA before adding borates ?

I read the sticky about adding borates about 4-5 times, printed it out and I'm ready to add them. However, I read in the thread that the TA should be around 70-90 and mine is a little higher. I guess I just want to double check that I need to adjust the numbers some before I start adding...

    Add more CYA or wait?

Yep, 40 + 10. Ok, will test in a few more days. Thanks. :)

    Add more CYA or wait?

After my Baq-to-Chlorine conversion a couple of weeks ago, I used the pool calculator to add enough CYA to bring it up to 40. I tested after 5 days and got a reading of 30 using the TF test kit. So I used the calculator again to add enough to 40 and tested just now and got 30 still, it's been 5...

    Chlorine testing

I'm having the issues as well. Not able to distinguish the various shades of yellow yet so I've been double checking my results with the drops. Last night the yellow was a bright yellow which would indicate between 3-4 on the OTO test and when I tested with the drops, it was 2, so I had to add...

    Our Baqua-Free Pool

We just completed our Baq to chlorine conversion yesterday so I thought I'd show off some pics. :-D This is looking toward the house. I'd like to add a few potted plants around the deck but it gets so hot back there, I'm not sure I could keep them alive. I do have some canna lilies planted on...

Re: Conversion in progress... ok, so I 'think' we're done with our conversion. We changed the sand & added CYA in a sock yesterday, it was dissolved by late evening, topped up the chlorine to 15 and these were my numbers this morning. FC 14 CC .5 ph 7.2 TA 120 CYA 30 Do I need to raise the...

Re: Conversion in progress... It finally stopped raining & the sand has been changed and I filled a knee high nylon up with 2lbs (half of the recommended TPC dose) of CYA. We are rockin' n' rollin' now. LOL Once the 2lbs of CYA is dissolved, should I test the CYA level before adding the 2nd...

    Conversion in Progress...Now Complete!

Re: Conversion in progress... Woohoo! Will it matter if we wait till tomorrow to change the sand? We have more rain/storms coming through today. How long after the conversion is complete & the water is balanced should I wait to add the borates? I have ordered the Lamotte test strips...

    My Baquacil to chlorine conversion

That is promising to hear, PoolMom, since we have similar pools. I'm afraid to add up what I spent on Baquacil last year. Heck, I've spent $200+ on Baq this year trying to clear it up and my pool has only been open a month & half.

Converting from Baquacil to Chlorine soon...a few questions

A hint on buying bleach at Walmart

Wish I'd thought of that in the beginning when I had carts full of bleach. I'm getting down to the end of my conversion and not buying much now though. Thanks for posting that though, maybe it'll help the next soon-to-be ex-Baqua user.
