Metal stains in AG vinyl pool...please help.

May 2017. New liner and crystal clear water. Easiest start-up ever using city water (bulk water delivery). Very expensive option but we have avoided the metal fiasco for now. URL=http://s1213.photobucket.com/user/pammerh/media/Newliner2017.jpg.html]

Adventures of My Green Murky Mess

Wow. Good job! Only 11 bottles of bleach????? That is amazing. When we went through our algae/metal catastrophe of 2014 we went through 42+ bottles (we lost count) of bleach. Again, good job and your pool is beautiful!

Metal stains in AG vinyl pool...please help.

This is our pool in the summer of 2015 after the disaster of mustard algae and out-of-control metal issues in 2014. It took us a full summer to get it under control but here we are today. We won the battle! Whew! We switched to a cartridge filter from sand filter this year and we just love it!

Metal stains in AG vinyl pool...please help.

Has anyone with an above ground pool and well water with metal ever done a successful ascorbic acid treatment? It seems like a revolving door. Get the pool stain free with ascorbic acid..beautiful! Water turns cloudy. Add HTH Metal Control (Is Jacks Magic Pink stuff better?) Let pool sit for 24...

Still blue and cloudy. Don't tell anybody but we floc'd last night. Got a lot of it out this morning but not all of it, pretty white and fluffy. Pool is somewhat clearer. We are driving on..and on...and on..and on. Six days into slam this is where we are. If you look real hard you can almost see...

I'm back - Cloudy yellow-greenish pool but metal under some control for now

Okay, okay...back up to slam level we go! The good news is that CYA is down to 50 with all of the backwashing and refilling (with soft house water) so I only have to go to 20 now. I do love my steps. We really let them go, full of metal too so I am scrubbing with ascorbic acid and popping the...

Kim and myprysak82...thanks for the encouragement. We are staying the course. So far 35 bottles of 8.25% bleach. We are at a milky blue now. Lots and lots of white , floating, presumably dead, algae. We are going to try to do the OCLT test tonight. Not sure our sand filter is going to get that...

Pool still greyish-blueish-greenish and cloudy but looks like it is getting clearer. We will continue to slam but difficulties with no R0871. Found some locally to tide us over until order from tftestkits arrives. Flying blind right now. Boy this is a process, isn't it? I am so tired of this...

I'm back - Cloudy yellow-greenish pool but metal under some control for now

[/IMG] Another quick question. Here is a photo of my wonderful steps. When we took them out of the pool to clean under them when refilling they were a disgusting mess, yellow stuff, white snotty looking stuff. For those of you who have these kinds of steps in your AG pools, do you take...

I'm back - Cloudy yellow-greenish pool but metal under some control for now

Casey, I agree with you about the solar cover, probably not the culprit but something is going on because we were not able to hold chlorine at all and the lovely greenish-yellow color again after getting the pool to crystal clear for a day. I got up to test his morning before sun hit the...

I'm back - Cloudy yellow-greenish pool but metal under some control for now

We had a sparkling clear pool for about a day after getting metal issues cleared up after refill. Hubs put the solar cover on overnight and we woke up to no FC and cloudy water with a yellow-greenish tint. Solar cover is off and going to the dump..new cheapy on order. We have been slamming the...

Ending this thread. I will be here reading other people's problems but I'm not getting much help. Thanks to those who responded, especially tado921. When we figure it out I will post a picture. Update: 90 % improvement this morning. Greenish-brown this morning. I am not as frustrated as I was...

Mustard Algae

Seriously...one of you chemists out there need to come up with a sanitizer that does not react with metal! Geez Louise....this is rediculous. 2 sand filters running and not even a dent in this mess of a pool! At this rate we will never get to swim! Chlorine now down to 1-2...we have to ad more.....

Mustard Algae

This is where we are right now. Good news is the pool is holding chlorine very well. Bad news is this is what the pool looks like from metal. Hubby is going to set up the old sand filter to help filter the metal out so we will have 2 filters working on it. We continue to use Metal Control as well.
27. S

Mustard Algae

Actually, yes. We are looking into it. Hubby wants to build a fill cart for the pool, incorporating some kind of metal filter.

Mustard Algae

This morning I got up and tested before the sun hit the pool. Here are my test results: FC 20 CC 0 pH 7.4 The good news is shock level of FC held overnight...woo hoo! The bad news, brown water full of metal. Now to clear up the pool and we will be home free (I hope).
