New pool owner, started with a swamp

Thanks, that's what I was hoping. We're going to start running out of warm weather here in a bout a month and I'd like to be able to get some use out of this thing, so I'm going to start letting the FC drop and continue brushing the bottom (still have some dirt) and cleaning the filter daily...

How clear does it have to be? I can see the bottom of the pool, but it's still a bit cloudy. Does it have to be perfectly sparkling?

Will CC drop when I let the FC come down to normal levels or do I need to maintain shock level until it's at .5 or lower? My understand of CC is that it's a byproduct of the chlorine breaking down, so I'm not sure how to proceed.

Cleaned the filter again today and brushed the pool thoroughly (I do this once per day). I can see the bottom of the pool more clearly, noticeably better than yesterday. I also took a CYA measurement today - 25. CC is somewhere between .5 and one, it was almost clear when I added the first drop...

New pool owner, started with a swamp

Update: Tomorrow will be day 14 of SLAM. As of last night, I can start to make out the pattern on the bottom of the liner. Pool is still cloudy, but I can see the bottom and the net when I put it all the way down, which is a first for me. I've been maintaining FC at 20-25 and CC has been...

New pool owner, started with a swamp

Took the cartridge out yesterday to clean, it was pretty bad. Loaded with dead algae and what looks like dirt from the bottom of the pool. I sprayed it out really good and put it back in, PSI is still right around where it's been since new (17-19). Since this is clearly going to be an issue...

That's what I figured, thanks. Anxious to get this thing back to normal and switch to normal maintenance mode. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

New pool owner, started with a swamp

Also, I just did my morning tests and checked the TA for the first time in almost a week. It's up from 100 on 7/19 to 400+ today (I stopped at 40 drops). I did a PH test and it was ~7.5, though I've read those aren't reliable at high chlorine levels. What should I be doing at this point?

I sure hope so, today is day 8 and still nothing. I assume it was just THAT much algae and it's taking forever to filter out?

New pool owner, started with a swamp

Hi all. New member/pool owner, bought a foreclosure house with a 24x16 AG pool that hasn't been taken care of in probably 2+ seasons. Greenish black, full of algae, smelled like a sewer when we bought it. Started by going to the pool store to find out what kind of equipment and chemicals I...
