That repair kit makes it so easy. No glues or patches needed. Thanks!

    Solar manifold leak

My solar panel has a drip at the manifold, where one small tube connects to the main pipe. The panels are made by Aquatherm and are a webbed assembly, i.e. the small tubes are all joined together by thin plastic. I'm thinking the best solution is to remove the problem tube, then plug the hole...

    Diverter valve o-rings prematurely fail

Thanks, I never would have suspected it was the lube. I'll switch to Magic Lube II. Thanks guys!

    Diverter valve o-rings prematurely fail

I just finished replacing the leaky O-rings and they were beginning to disintegrate. Lots of black material came off them. BTW, this diverter valve sends water to my solar panels and is controlled by a motor and thermostat. So, the diverter valve cycles back and forth maybe 10 times a day...

    Diverter valve o-rings prematurely fail

The o-rings on my Pentair diverter valves wear out in about 6 months and then start leaking profusely. When the pool was first built, I seem to remember the original o-rings lasted about 2 years. So, either the replacements I purchased from Captain O-rings aren't the best quality, or I'm...

    Pentair IntellipH Questions

I called Penair. Intelliph models built after 2014 require you to replace both the pump head AND motor as one assembly. The p/n is 521515. The cost is around $125 compared to $35 for the old style pump head w/o the motor. Ouch! Moral of the story, regularly replace the stenner tube before...

    Pentair IntellipH Questions

Tucsontico, were you able to find the part number for the "new" pump head? I ordered p/n 521514 from Sunplay and got the old Shurflo pump which does not fit my Intelliph.

    Lubrication of stenner tubes?

The stenner tube in my Pentair Intelliph acid injector developed a hole after just 4 months of use and I'm wondering why it failed prematurely since the previous tube lasted 16 months. I have been periodically lubricating the stenner tube with WD40 brand silicon spray and I'm wondering if that...

IntellipH Pentair - pH control automatic or Semi-automatic

Re: IntellipH Pentair - pH control automatic or Semi-automat I'm using 31.5% acid and the IntellipH works fine using it full strength. My pool is about 8 month old now and the water chemistry seems to have stabilized at bit, so the pH is rising at a slower rate. Increasing my pump run time...

    What's your current pool temp?

Thanks to my solar pool heater and the unseasonably warm weather in So. Cal this week, the pool hit 78 degrees. :)

IntellipH Pentair - pH control automatic or Semi-automatic

Re: IntellipH Pentair - pH control automatic or Semi-automat I recently installed an IntellipH and have the same problem as mnittler... the Intelliph at the 100% setting is not adding sufficient acid to maintain the pool pH at 7.8. My pool has an infinity edge, waterfall, and fill water with a...

IntellipH siphoned 3ga of acid overnight

Someone turned the tab, as it takes some effort to unlock it. I had a service guy look at the unit a few days earlier and I think he unlocked the cover during his inspection and forgot to lock it. I've had numerous problems with the unit since I installed it a week ago. Initially, it would...

IntellipH siphoned 3ga of acid overnight

I may have found the culprit. I've couldn't understand how the acid could travel through the IntellipH acid pump when the pump was turned off. Looking at the pump, I noticed the clear plastic cover the protects the pinch rollers was not locked in place, and had shifted up away from the...

IntellipH siphoned 3ga of acid overnight

I self-installed an IntellipH last week and it has been operating well until now. During the night, while the pool pumps were off, the acid tank was completely drained, so 3 gallons of acid went into my pool. I can only estimate the pool pH is around 6.0, since the Taylor test kit only...

    What's your current pool temp?

It's still very hot here in San Diego. The pool is holding steady at 82 and I haven't even turned on the solar collectors yet or used the pool blanket. Last week, the daytime air temperature at averaging 95, and I was cooling the pool by cycling the water through the collectors at night. I...

    concrete pool deck nightmare

Cutting an expansion joint shouldn't be a problem. If the pavers are laid on top of the concrete deck, won't they be higher than the pool coping?

    Poorly bonded coping?

The Tile Institute of America recommends a minimum 90% coverage of the thinset for outdoor applications. In other words, pressing a tile into fresh thinset and then immediately pulling the tile off, the back of the tile should be 90% covered in thinset. Each day, the pool coping is subjected...

    Coping nightmare!

Why accept anything less than what was agreed in the contract? The builder make the error so have him exchange the tile for the correct size. If you like his idea for adding the small tiles, then move the large tiles so they overhang a little more so the expansion joint will be wider.

    3rd party inspection?

I knew from the beginning that all the work was subcontracted and I'm fine with that. My main concern is that the tile and coping is not being installed to industry standards and good practices. Take a look at this section of coping that is cantilevered out over the inlet to the pool skimmer...

    3rd party inspection?

My pool is nearing completion and I'm considering hiring a 3rd party to inspect for construction defects. I like my PB but all the work is sub-contracted and the PB is never on-site while the work is being performed. It's the hard to spot things that worry me, like poorly bonded tiles and...

    Poorly bonded coping?

My new pool is currently being tiled. I checked the quality of the installation by lightly tapping on each tile using a large steel nut and listening for any hollow sounds. The tiles appear to be tight and sound, no problems at all. Next, I tapped on the precast concrete coping and heard...
