    Pentair Easy Touch LCD Screen

I just wanted to add my thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread. I had the same issue with my screen and did not want to shell out a few $100 for a new board. So I ordered the blue screen and a soldering kit and got to work. All of the hints are useful but I will say that it just...

How much will salt concentration increase due to liquid chlorine?

I just entered in 3500 for the salt concentration into the PoolMath page and saw that this reduces the CSI by about 0.2. Do you think that by raising the CSI closer to zero or even positive, it could help with the problems I am seeing with my stone?

How much will salt concentration increase due to liquid chlorine?

Sure. That's not out of the realm of possibilities. About ~3 gallons a week average during April-September, and ~1 per week average during the other times would be about 100 gallons per year. That may be a bit high of an estimate but certainly possible. But I have also had some dilution due...

How much will salt concentration increase due to liquid chlorine?

Thanks for the links. I had already read through those before I posted this. Just to update the salt is 3000-3500 (3000 from a drop test and 3500 from a strip). So, unlike other's experiences I seem to be accumulating about 1000 ppm of salt per year. Does that even seem reasonable? I'm not...

How much will salt concentration increase due to liquid chlorine?

Here are my current numbers. FC 4 pH 7.5 TA 70 CH 460 CYA 50 Salt ??? Borate 50 I have been using TFP methods since August of 2013 and have been very pleased. I use a Liquidator and added Borates to help with the white scale issues that popped up immediately. Borates fixed that problem. My...

    CYA testing

Just an update on this, as I have not been checking for a while. I am obviously a novice at this but I found that the right light is definitely key. I needed bright, clear, midday sun to get a decent reading. Clouds or afternoon sun were no good. Even in the right conditions I felt like I...

    CYA testing

Right. I have done it exactly as instructed. I've even taken it around in different types of light. Indoors certainly gives a different view than outside with your back to the sun, but even then I get low readings. I even asked my son to take a look. Obviously it is the most difficult test...

    CYA testing

I just received some new R0013 and some 50 ppm standard solution. I guess my eyes must be too good because I tried it out twice and got 35 and 40 ppm. I was even stopping while I felt that I could still see the dot. If I am getting these results for the standard solution then should I assume...

    Algae spots, perhaps?

Just an update in case anyone was following this. I allowed my pump to stay on low throughout the night and the spots have not returned. I have not kept the FC levels high but the Liquidator has been adding some chlorine, and I have not brushed much. I know, I am probably asking for a return...

    Algae spots, perhaps?

Will do with the fingernail test. The Liquidator was off, but the pump was running as per schedule. Low from the 8:30pm reading until 10pm, off until 2am, and low from 2-6am when the second reading was taken. If I want to go low 24/7 then I might have to adjust the rate. I am not sure the...

    Algae spots, perhaps?

OK, so I am still confused, although I am guessing it is "tree droppings". So my ONCL was zero. FC = 8 and CC = 0 at 8:30 last night and the same readings at 6:00 this morning. However, the spots were back. I scraped them off with a brush this time. If it's not tree droppings, could it be...

    Algae spots, perhaps?

So I got home. Spots are gone. It's been 85 degrees and sunny. FC = 9 and CC = 0. Liquidator has been on and usually maintains FC at about 4. The amount of bleach I added this morning should have raised the FC to about 14, but this is just a guess since I did not measure it. I will do an...

    Algae spots, perhaps?

Poolmom - I agree, I don't get why they come back overnight. As far as I can tell I am not losing chlorine overnight, but I admit I have not checked carefully. I usually just do a quick check in the morning with a strip before I go to work and then do a drop test in the evening. I have not...

    Algae spots, perhaps?

Here are my TF100 numbers from Sunday, two days ago: FC - 3 CC - 0 PH - 7.5 TA - 80 CH - 400 CYA - 35 Borates - 50 The FC was a little lower than I wanted and so I bumped up the feed on the Liquidator a bit, and according to a quick drop test yesterday and a strip this morning the FC is ~5...

The Liquidator - White Buildup in Tubes

I had the same problem. Maybe even worse. I also had to disconnect my flow meter because it would scale up with white stuff almost immediatley. I added borates and the problem is gone. I would highly recommend it. Everything runs clear now.

    Black residue on thermometer

I have no reason to say it couldn't be. Sometimes that spray-on sunblock does get a little sticky.

    Black residue on thermometer

No, not really. In fact I don't notice any smoke at all. Of course there is the smell of exhaust. It may not be the source, but I will pay closer attention to when I mow and trim and when I see this black stuff.

    Black residue on thermometer

Charlie - It definitely comes off with soap and water, but this morning I just wiped it off with a dry paper towel. It does act like a petroleum product when wiping it off, sort of like trying to wipe away old adhesive after you've removed a sticker. Come to think of it, I was just doing some...

    Black residue on thermometer

FC - 1.5 CC - 0 PH - 7.6 TA - 60 CH - 360 CYA - 30 Borates - 50-80 I have been accumulating a black residue that feels a bit like old adhesive on the top of my thermometer, which invariably ends up in one of my skimmers so that water is always flowing over it. I am pretty sure it is not...

Experiences of a newbie - Liquidator, borates, CYA testing

Re: Experiences of a newbie - Liquidator, borates, CYA testi UN1017 - Yes, I wasn't trying to imply that the borates were stabilizing the chlorine. I was thinking exactly what you posted, that the borates probably slowed down algae growth and left the chlorine to do its job. I just don't have...

Experiences of a newbie - Liquidator, borates, CYA testing

Hello all. I've just registered and this is my first post, but I have obtained a wealth of information from this site, so thank you all. Our pool was completed in December 2012. We started with trichlor pucks and by July the CYA was at 98, at least according to Leslie's, which is another...
