Pool Frogs - how many have you had?

I don't recall if I posted this previously, but wanted to share. My pool sees quite a few frogs. The invasions occur usually during rain in August. We have only had a few so far this year, but its always interesting to see if we break our record of 120+. Ive had invasions of 35, 78, and the...

    New Salt Cell not performing

I did use that kit already. Old Salt Cell was reading way below last year, and stopped working this year. 3200 (3300 now due to evaporation) was spot on with the K-1766 kit and new cell. I always stain my fingers with that kit though... no matter how careful I am. LOL.

Aquarite - Diagnose & Troubleshoot your own Main Board

Re: Aquarite - Diagnose & Troubleshoot your own Main Board This is excellent information. Thank you. Its been 20 years since I was in the USAF as Precision Measurement Equipment Journeyman, but I still think I can solder! Let me ask, what are the symptoms of a bad thermistor? Is the...

    New Salt Cell not performing

Jblizzle, Thank you for that sanity check. I was basing my post on my observations with the new cell. From 2014 through this year, the original salt cell (which I'm not sure how long it was used prior to me taking ownership) would keep my pool at 4ppm with 10 hours of runtime at about 65 -...

    New Salt Cell not performing

Hey everyone. I recently replaced my T-15 cell. The other one lasted a really long time and was old and not producing any chlorine. The new one is working, but not nearly as well as the old one. Right now at 100% for 8 hours and I can barely raise the FC (.5ppm increase). My old cell...

Could you help me with Pump Selection / PVC plumbing questions?

Thank you. This is exactly the type of information I was looking for. I will do some more research and video watching and see what I can come up with. Much appreciated!

Could you help me with Pump Selection / PVC plumbing questions?

My current pump is on its way out. It is a Hayward Super Pump model C48K2N143B1. 115/230V (I need to get out the voltmeter to see what it is running at currently) 1HP 1.5" unions What I want to replace it with is a Hayward VS Omni model. There are 4 options : Tristar VS 950 TriStar VS 900...

    Concrete is Stained, need help

The only thing I can offer is that when I had my pool liner replaced, their pump left rust stains on my pool deck. When I asked them to clean it, they used straight bleach, staining the deck (because the concrete had a tan stain to it originally). I complained again, and they came back with...

    Opening this weekend- new question

So, the chirping started the second day after opening. Then yesterday it was hit or miss. Today it is gone. I'll let it go for now and see what happens. Is it better to go through the effort of replacing the seal & bearings or just get a new pump altogether should the situation...

    Opening this weekend- new question

I'll try to take a video soon. Talked with local pool store about it and they said they never heard of that either. I went as far as opening the multiport valve to ensure no debris was in there and the spider gasket was good, and also checking the impeller (by feel) for debris.

    Opening this weekend- new question

Although... if anyone is still reading this thread... my pump started "chirping" this year. After it runs for an hour or two.. it starts making bird noises or high pitched squawks every 10 seconds or so. Bearings going? A gasket of some kind?

    Opening this weekend- new question

Perhaps this deserves a X4! Green water treated with Chlorine... easy. Rinsing out skimmer baskets every few hours ... PITA! - - - Updated - - - Thanks! Probably the cleanest opening I've had. However, I did get enjoyment out of opening to green pool on day 1 and having a great looking...

    Opening this weekend- new question

Opening went well. Brought FC to 8.5ppm and only .5ppm loss in 24 hours. Water temp was only 57F this year, so I'm sure that helped. This was the first year I still had CYA... it measured about 50 ppm...same as the end of last year. I will retest later this week when the sun is out and then...

    Opening this weekend- new question

I only use a standard vacuum. Although, the previous owners had a crawler I think. So I can say that from 2013 to 2017, only a vacuum was used. New liner installed last August, and with a darker color liner due to the dye you mentioned. Hopefully this one is more colorfast over the years.

    Opening this weekend- new question

Perhaps fade the liner is a better description. You can see the amount of fading by looking at the color around skimmer opening. Here is the new liner, complete with the frog invasion. Anyway, I only ever use liquid chlorine. The first year I opened, I assumed I had CYA and it was 0. I...

    Opening this weekend- new question

Thanks. I actually try to open later than earlier. So that is probably why I start with some green water. We have about 8 flowering pear trees around the pool, and they begin drop their small petals in mid May. I find it much easier to wait for those petals to drop on my cover and deal with...

    Opening this weekend- new question

Thanks Richard! Those numbers sound like a great idea. If I can stay safe with 8 PPM until I get the CYA in, then that seems like the best path forward. I'll just have have to remember that if progress does start slowing down, to test the CYA and adjust the chlorine appropriately.

    Opening this weekend- new question

Interesting. I never had that kind of luck dissolving the CYA. I used to try the sock method, but it didnt work for me. Just clumped up. I now just put it in the skimmers directly and wait several days before backwashing. Some sits in the filter while some remains in the basket for some time.

    Opening this weekend- new question

Hi everyone, I've been using TFP since I bought my house with a pool in 2013. Great results...never an issue. Well, I overslammed previously and bleached my liner, but it was near its life end so it wasn't really a big deal. (Didnt check CYA assuming it would be there from previous year..so...

Plug Size, and shop vac HP?

Well, my compressor seemed to do the trick. My biggest concern was my drains at 8.5 feet, but the bubbles came up. The 33 gal seemed to be able to keep up with the demand at 20 psi. Best of luck everyone with your blower / vac/ compressor of choice!

Plug Size, and shop vac HP?

That's not a bad idea, to maybe rent it out. I wouldn't want the liability of closing someone else's pool though. As far as installing a new liner, that seems like it would be a daunting task to do yourself. Well the plan is to close the pool today, so I will see if I wish I bought the cyclone.

Plug Size, and shop vac HP?

I was going to buy the cyclone as well, but had a hard time justifying that much for something with no other real use. So I bought a 33 gal air compressor. I know it may not produce the volume I need, but thought I'd give it a try. Sent from my head, with the help of my fingers and a wireless...

    Another first time closing thread

Interesting... I have a pump that is similar. However the surface of my pool will freeze. Thats why I was considering putting it in a bucket in the deep end as I dont think the pool will freeze solid.
