    Solar heating question

So if you were in my shoes would you run 2” up to the panels, or use 1-1/2 and keep 2” only at the pool pad?

    Solar heating question

Thanks…. Sorry one more question. I’m going to update all the plumbing at my pool pad to increase it from 1-1/2 to 2 inches. I’m thinking with all the bends and turns the additional pipe diameter will help with the flow. This is even though the three pipes coming in are 1-1/2 and the two outlets...

    Solar Panel over roof ridge

Old thread, but I'm in the same situation as you. What did you end up doing with the drain line? I wasn't going to add one, but it seems like a REALY good idea. Didn't see it mentioned above, but I assume the part where the drain line connects to the feed line should have a check valve so the...

    Solar heating question

FWIW here's a sat view of my house showing where the panels used to be on the left. Had the roof replaced and had to remove them, and would prefer to put them on the right side, hence up the left side, over the peak, and onto the right side. Reason why is the sunlight is better, and its safer to...

    Solar heating question

Mark- I have a question about solar pool panels and positioning. But first, my VS pump is going to feed my panels on the second story of my house. I may put them on the other side of the roof peak, which means I’ll add another ~8’ of vertical head in addition to the 16’ just to get to the roof...

Bad pump corrosion or just salt?

Is the seal the part with the ceramic ring? Yep yep, need to keep an eye on this new one. Maybe I’ll disconnect it and bring it inside every winter so I can inspect it. Thanks!

Bad pump corrosion or just salt?

My pump was seizing up. Wasn’t expecting this when I took it apart. I *think* it’s salt, but really don’t want to taste test it. Not sure if this is normal with salt pools or indicates a leak. Either way I replaced it with a vgreen vs pump and a new go kit.

Replacement motor compatibility with a Hayward Super pump

So if he was using a variable speed pump, with the higher HP motor, would it be better to a) get the bigger impeller but lower the rpm’s to some fraction of full rpm, or b) use his current impeller and use the pump at 100% some of the day then a lower rpm rest of the day? When I say better I...

Replacing .75hp pump with vgreen 1.65hp motor

So by tripling the hp, you’re able to run it at a fraction of the rpm’s?

Replacing .75hp pump with vgreen 1.65hp motor

Thanks mark. My motor was a uct1072 .75hp, 3400rpm, 115v/8amp attached to a Hayward Superpump. Just today I put a new vgreen 1.65 vs motor on the “wet side” with the .75hp rated impeller. My understanding is that with this impeller I’m getting similar gpm as my .75hp motor. Is that correct? If...

Replacing .75hp pump with vgreen 1.65hp motor

Thanks for feedback Jim, glad there’s nothing too complicated about this. So don’t switch the impeller?

Replacing .75hp pump with vgreen 1.65hp motor

I know that sounds like a huge step up, but the vgreen .85 motors are hard to find and are pretty much the same price as 1.65hp motors. Below are the reference numbers. My current motor is uct1072. .75hp, 3400rpm, 115v/8amp. Service factor 1. Questions; Basically, since I don’t need 1.65hp can...

Can I replace my 1 hp Super Pump VS motor with a .85 ELV08c?

James, I’m in a similar situation as the OP but my Hayward pump is up rated .75hp (uct1072). Guessing if I go with 1.65hp I would never want it to be at 100% as that may be way too much throughput for my system. May even cause a leak if there’s a weak part of the system. Basic math, I would...

Big green egg discussion (joe’s and others also included!)

I use an electric heating element to get my coals going. 10 minutes tops. If I'm smoking, I take it out after 10 minutes then hit them with a small, low velocity leaf blower for maybe 15 seconds. Thats enough to get me to 300-ish without going over. IF my goal is to get things to max temp asap...
