    TF-100 Reagents' Life Expectancy

Using TF-100 for several years now, with refills occasionally. Recently, in trying to test chlorine, no amount of drops will turn the water from pink to clear. Do both the R-0003 and R-0870 eventually expire? Thanks.

    Best Way To Raise CYA

That all being said about raising the CYA, is there really a big negative if my CYA hovers around 20?

    Best Way To Raise CYA

So, Robbie, are you saying I should drop a puck or 2 in the tablet chute? And then monitor all levels?

    Best Way To Raise CYA

So, if I have a 15k gallons, FC ~2-3 and CYA 20 or less. Still have some Trichlor 94% tabs. Would like to get CYA to ~40. Could I just put 1 or 2 tablets in the tablet chute and allow to dissolve over next couple of days? I appreciate that it will take several days for the CYA to come up...

Just switched from trichlor tabs to BBB

Bama: Your statement above confuses me: That implies that draining and refilling would also get CYA back to where it was previously. Draining water is different than evaporation? I'm guessing that means that evaporated water doesn't include CYA for some reason? Not questioning your...

Thanks, Robbie. I actually considered using that method, especially as I've got some out of town travel upcoming. Kinda kill 2 birds with 1 stone, i.e. CL maintenance + CH improvement, if only for 5 days of use.

Best price on 10%+ liquid chlorine in DFW area?

Here in Houston, Leslie's sells a case of 10% for $15.99. Of course, you need to ask for it as they keep it in the back. Wonder why?.....

Thanks everyone. Sorry, I missed the CH comment in the 2nd post. I appreciate all the feedback. My CSI # seems okay for now. Will watch. Will also do an OCLT this weekend. Thanks again. tfp

It Works! Amazing Water! Now, some questions,...

The 3 drains were probably 33%, 33%, 50%. I had been given (and was stupidly taking) really bad shock advice from Leslie's and others (3x, then 4x, then 8x!). Who knows how high my CYA truly was. Embarrassing to admit, especially on these boards.

After a LONG month of elevated CYA, algae, 3 occasions of draining/refilling then full blown BBB + OCLT, I'm just astounded by how awesome the pool looks. Even my wife commented that she hadn't seen the pool look the color it is now is in a long, long time. She still thinks I'm obsessed by my...

    SLAM question

I'm slowly getting smarter every day on this. Have my test kit, have been SLAM-ing, water looking 1000% better in last several days, but still learning,... After you've achieved the critical criteria of CC is 0.5 or lower; you pass an OCLT (ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm...

REAL high CYA; lots of dumb moves; now what?

I've drained 50-60% of my pool. Next dumb question: what does Calcium Hypochlorite do? What are the pro's/con's? I'm trying to bide my time until I receive my test kit.

Ok, FWIW, here's what I have (and YES, I get it: I need to buy a test kit): CYA 115 TC .3 FC 0 pH 7.2 Alkalinity 113 Adj. Total Alk 78 Total Hardness 139

REAL high CYA; lots of dumb moves; now what?

Thanks guys. It's about 15k gallons. Was told consistently all other #'s were "perfect." Just not CYA and FC. Will post all #'s once received.

REAL high CYA; lots of dumb moves; now what?

Well, my best estimate of the high CYA is from the guys at Leslie's (I know, I know,...). Was going to take to different store tonight. Everything I've read about the effects of excessive CYA makes sense as I've battled algae as a result of -0- chlorine all year inspite of tablets and shock.

REAL high CYA; lots of dumb moves; now what?

Have made lots of errors this year in my pool. Too embarrassed to list here. Assuming draining some of my pool to basically start the repair process, what next? The high CYA I believe was caused by the "low cost" shock I've used all year. Results in lots of algae, followed by really bad...
