Hey North East, Anybody Open Yet?? (Southern New Jersey here)

Semi-opened May 14th in Staten Island. The cover is still on but all equipment hooked up and test run. It was just too windy and cold on Sunday to take the cover off. I would have had a pool full of tree junk and outside temp was too cold for the heat pump as well. It should warm up later...

Issue with install. Ridges in pool. Post pushing out.

Actually it's freaking awesome. If the outside temp is 80 or above it'll do a rise of 2 degrees per hour. The hotter it is the more efficient and vice-versa. I heated the pool starting around the second week of May running the heater and pump from 12:30pm to 2:30pm for around 10 days and 2...

Issue with install. Ridges in pool. Post pushing out.

Does this help answer your question? I'm not 100% clear and what you mean by ridges. Image doesn't seem to embed properly... try this link: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/b7nlc79dspFSKB1tw1QiMtMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink

FC consumption when closing with Algaecide

Thanks, chem geek - that's exactly the type of information I was hoping to get!

FC consumption when closing with Algaecide

I believe I've read on the forum that chlorine will break down algaecide (polyquat). When using algaecide during pool closing, won't the pool consume more FC than if you had not used algaecide maybe to the point of total FC consumption well before opening? At the very least, wouldn't the...

    Does an SWG produce air?

That's quite a bit more than I get. I get a steady microfine stream that you can barely even see. Does it bubble like that for a little while, stop for a little while and then start again? If so, maybe the gas is building up somewhere in the lines, gets pushed out all at once and then the...

Use spa jets to aerate water

Pics follow. Keep in mind that what I did was just a crude test that I never took any further since it worked so well. It can be done much shorter and neater without the street elbow. Important note if you end up doing this - while extending the air line just past the eyeball creates suction...

Use spa jets to aerate water

If your returns have really good flow - how about this: Extend one of the returns with some PVC. Drill a hole in the extension big enough to allow a 1/4" aquarium air line to slip in. Insert the aquarium line and pull out of the eyeball extending an inch or two. The venturi effect will create...

New Pool Pilot Digital Nano+, Wiring ?

I went the "run another GFCI outlet off the pump circuit so the Nano+ can still simply plug in" approach. That way the wire would stay completely intact to avoid any warranty issues should the need arise.

Pool Pilot Digital Nano - Year 4 - Top Marks

Thanks for the review - it makes me feel better about my Nano plus installed this year. It's also helped by my pool's constant pH decline due to acidic rain. I still have to adjust up but only once every 2-3 weeks where it used to be an every-time-it-rains maintenance item.

    skimmers with lids for winter?

Last season was my first with a pool and I used the aquadoor when closing. Unfortunately, it leaked very, very slowly and by the time I opened the water was *almost* to the bottom of the skimmer door anyway.

AutoPilot Digital questions & math verification

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Josh. And a big thank you to everyone else who replied to my thread. You've all definitely educated me a little more on the topic and have given me some things to think about. Love this forum!

AutoPilot Digital questions & math verification

Sean, Thanks for answering my post! I'm not worried about any bias as the decision to go AutoPilot has already been made :-). It's just a matter of details at this point. I don't understand what advantage an external timer would give me. Can you explain further or maybe point me to a...

That's a really good point that I didn't think about. I, too, use an opaque solar cover. Thanks!

AutoPilot Digital questions & math verification

I know that I can't eliminate the possibility completely but I'd like to reduce the probability as much as I can. I currently test and adjust FC daily. The pH is tested and adjusted weekly. My pH currently has a tendency to drift down, especially after a rain storm (acid rain in NYC). The...

AutoPilot Digital questions & math verification

I'm at 60 CYA right now which is right around the recommended level for SW. Yes, the pump is over-sized. The pump is also only 3 weeks old. For me to purchase another pump, I'd need to shell out $200 minimum. How does that make financial sense to save money on electricity? Let's take pump...

AutoPilot Digital questions & math verification

Thanks, Jason. I totally get the point about resistance with fittings. I will consider going to 2". Taking into consideration the chlorine output of each unit and my avg daily usage (2 oz or 2.5 ppm), I did some calculations and it looks like I need either the RC-36 or RC-48 For a 4hr run...

AutoPilot Digital questions & math verification

Flow would still be improved even if I need to use reducers on the filter, pump and skimmer which are all 1.5"? Wouldn't the reducers limit the flow? I'm just looking for some education here. From the information I can find online, it's 110/115 only. How do I determine how much chlorine I'm...

AutoPilot Digital questions & math verification

Hey all, I've decided to go with AutoPilot digital as my SWG choice after researching on the forum. It looks like a solid and mostly trouble-free system. After the research, I do still have a few questions that I hope you all can answer for me... 1. The manifold looks like it has 2"...

AG Pool specs ok for salt?

I gave them a call and they said don't do it. I'm pretty sure that's the standard answer they give to cover their butts. The place that sold me the pool said I would be fine, however, I'm not going to put much weight into their opinion. I'd like to hear from AG/SWG owners with pool materials...

AG Pool specs ok for salt?

Hello everyone, I'd really like to go with a SWCG for my new AG pool but am concerned about rust. Most of the pool is resin, including the ladder. I'd love to hear from the more knowledgeable members of the board what their opinions are - especially any Aquasport pool owners. Here's a link...
