Spa purge vs massive chlorine shock

Right that is the sticky that references this procedure. I gave it a go and drained and a good rinse and the walls seem to be fine. Will note if chlorine demand improves or not

Spa purge vs massive chlorine shock

I have high-ish chlorine demand and CC levels, just wondering if using 100 ppm chorine for 30-45 min is enough to replace the need for a product like ahh-some or spa purge when changing water.

Spa purge vs massive chlorine shock

So I am replacing the water in my spa and I read the decontamination procedure referenced in the 'how to use chlorine' sticky where it says to raise the FC to 100 ppm chlorine for 30-45 min before draining. So apparently they are using bleach in place of a product like spa purge. Has anyone...

    Question about chlorine DPD powder

OK thanks again for the info. Really the chlorine smell was only a problem when I just got my drop test kit and was still learning. I mainly use it for convenience to put off a chlorine shock for a few days. Gonna cut back on the MPS usage and keep a little on hand for the occasional hot tub...

    Question about chlorine DPD powder

OK interesting to know.. I have a 500 gallon spa and I typically use a third to half an ounce when I get a strong chlorine smell from it, or when my chlorine demand is high and i don't want to shock so i can go in. I could probably do without out it though. As far as usage... About 4-6 times a...

    Question about chlorine DPD powder

I had another sorted of unrelated question: With the CC test regarding MPS interference, I know Taylor makes a reagent to fix it, but without that, how long after adding MPS (say less than an oz) can I test CC without having to worry about the interference?

    Question about chlorine DPD powder

Does anyone else notice a difference in result when using the DPD only test vs the FAS-DPD test? When the result from the powder test is below 5 ppm, so no diluting. Since I got the powder test I have compared results on 2 or 3 occasions and typically get a smaller FC reading from the color...

    Question about chlorine DPD powder

Yes I am doing 10 ml test. The directions don't say anything about use 1 dipper for 10, 2 for 25. Anyway it does turn pink after adding one dipper. Thanks for confirming!

    Question about chlorine DPD powder

I recently got a FAS-DPD chlorine test and the instructions say to add 2 dippers of powder. I know its better to add more than you need. But I'm curious about, Why 2 dippers? How much chlorine does 1 dipper of powder bond with? (Not sure I phrased that correctly..) If I'm expecting a reading...

    First time Spa testing

What he said ∆ Generally you want 50-70 TA, it should be low enough to prevent the pH rising from aeration from jets. That and clean your filters every few weeks.

I keep a tarp over my cover lol. I cut it to match the size so it's not too ugly. It's just too hard to keep the leather in good condition.

Effect of snow in hot tub water

Decided it was stupid and just bought a house that attaches to my kitchen sink. A little pricy but worth it. Just wanted to know if anyone has done this Im guessing it would greatly reduce my CH and TA as well as ph, use up all my sanitizer... Just not with the time to rebalance

    still have the foam..

Not sure if u were taking about my foam thread or not. But I solved by shocking daily until the chlorine lasted. Now it's completely gone. My tub tends to get scum around the edge when the ph is high, the FC seems to get consumed instantly. Drop your TA to 50-60 and adjust ph to 7.5-7.8. Then...

Effect of snow in hot tub water

We just got about 3 feet of snow and my hot tub is in serious need of a top off. Filling with a garden hose isn't an option for at least a week.. Likely more. Visually estimating it needs about 50 gallons. It's a 500 gallon tub. During the blizzard I got bored and did a ph test on the snow and...

Doing dichlor-then-bleach method, something's not working so far

When buying bleach I always look for one that says 8.25% sodium hypochlorate, and non scented. It will usually also say 'adds x amount free chlorine'. If it doesn't list ingredients its usually non intended for use as chlorine as it may contain fabric softener or additives or splashless...

    Foam in back of filter

Shocked again to 20 last night and chlorine reserve is improving. About 5 ppm left this morning. Also cleaned filters today and there was some algae build up on the inner filter. Still getting the nasty foam in the back of filter bucket but it is getting smaller. Also forgot to mention that...

    Foam in back of filter

Yep phili suburbs. Weather is really all over the place lately. I'm sure I'll get a 40 degree day soon and I'll be taking full advantage of it. I shocked to 20 ppm FC (using poolmath numbers) and the foam is a lot less today. It's honestly not that big of a deal since everything else is...

    Foam in back of filter

Yeah my theory didn't work out. I raised the spa to shock level and tried 1 drop of each and got no color. Gonna give the diluting a try. Will probably end up refilling but worth a shot since my hoses are frozen right now. Anyway thanks a ton for the thorough explanations I swear u guys are...

    Foam in back of filter

Quick question about the chlorine test. I have the chlorine test where you add 5 drops of R-001 and R-002, cap, invert, match color. The test tops out at 5 ppm. If my shock level is 20, wouldn't I be able to use 1 drop of each and multiply the results by 5 to test high levels of chlorine up to...

    Foam in back of filter

OK thanks for the info. I'll attempt the slam process also might look into getting the fas dpd test. Already blew another 20 getting reagents to test CYA and CH. Foam in back of filter

I have a DPD drop test where u match the colors. Last night after short 2 person soak I added 6 oz of 8.25% bleach and my numbers for this morning (I got the green thick foam near filter as usual) FC 0.5 ppm CC 1 ppm Also cleaned my filters yesterday which didn't seem to solve it. Here's a...

    Foam in back of filter

So my water is near perfect, no odor crystal clear. But every day I see a cloudy green collection of foam in the back of the filter bucket, where the water circles down from the surface towards the filter. I've just been scooping it out with a scimmer and wiping the back of the wall. It's a 500...

OK to have low TA in spa?

I've been having a problem with ph rise recently, and did some research and determined I need to drop TA. It was around 100 ppm. I added dry acid, aerate, and continue until my ph stopped drifting above 8. I finally got it to sit around 7.8 and now my TA is 50 ppm. I've read that low TA is...

Where to attach wires on spa heater?

I would try to track down your service manual. My spa is a master spa and has designated connectors for components and all ground wires are attached to one bracket. Green would be ground in your case.

    Question about Taylor test kits

Thanks Marc I actually found a decently priced CYA kit on amazon. Not sure if I'm getting the CH test yet. I like to monitor the CYA every once in a while since I use dichlor then switch over to bleach after a certain point. Could probably live without out it though.
