    low pH and alkalinity

Well I have a pound of pH plus (sodium carbonate) here. Can I use that? I also just pointed the return up so there is a break in the surface of the water. Thanks again for your help.

    low pH and alkalinity

Thanks! You were quick to answer! I was just getting ready to reply that I found the answer in the section "how to lower alkalinity". Sometimes I feel like I'm looking for a needle in a haystack when trying to find the answers to my questions. Thanks again!

    low pH and alkalinity

Ok, so I drained my pool halfway and have refilled. My total alkalinity was high so I added acid. Now my alkalinity is 110 but my pH is 6.7. How do I raise the pH without affecting the alkalinity?

Replacing Water in above ground pool

Hello! I'm wanting to replace the water in my above ground pool. Is it safe to drain the pool and then refill or do I need to fill as I drain. I have a very high CYA and am trying to lower it. Thanks.

    low pH and alkalinity

Hello! I'm getting an early start on opening my pool. I tested the water this evening (pump is not hooked up yet) and these are the results: FC 1.5 CC 0 pH 7.2 Alk 50 CYA 50 I use the test kit recommended by this site. My question is, do I want to fix the pH first by adding soda ash and hope...

    CYA

Ok but in an hour and a half my FC went from 39 to 29. Does this seem right? This morning I past all the slamming criteria but today I just wanted to make for sure so I brought it up to shock level of 39 and now it is already to 29. Should I keep slamming today and do the OCLT tomorrow morning...

    CYA

So during the day when you are slamming, there is no way to know if you are losing FC due to sun or organics? So you just keep slamming (keeping FC to shock level) during the day until night fall and then do the OCLT? If that comes clean, then no more slamming? Just trying to make sure that I...

    CYA

Ok, I think I'm having issues keeping my FC to shock level but I'm not sure. When I do the OCLT the FC does not change. My water is clear and my CC is .5 but during the day, my FC will drop 3 ppm in 2 hours time. My CYA is 100 to 120. With a drop that much, is it safe to assume that there is...

    CYA

I am so sorry..I must be blind. When I'm on the forum page, I don't see any button that says + Post New Thread. I must be sniffing too much chlorine lately....

    CYA

thanks. I will be trying that next year. I will save so much money. And yes, not a good summer for swimming. I sit by the pool more than IN the pool. I was testing my TA today with the TF 100 kit and since my FC is so high the color changed to yellow but never red. Is my TA when the color...

    CYA

Yes, I diluted the sample, got 50 and multiplied by 2. But thanks for making sure I did it right. I can't tell you how many things I've printed off of this site to help me along the way. AND...not using the aqua Smart system is going to save me a ton of money so I'll be looking forward to that...

    CYA

I did do the extended test kit directions and still got CYA of 100. I have an automatic AquaSmart chlorinator that uses Trichlor. So are you saying not to use the Aqua Smart system and just use liquid bleach to keep my FC at the right level? And it is safe to swim with FC of 39 since CYA is...

    CYA

]I have a CYA level of 100. I've been fighting Algae this summer and I'm sure that the high CYA level is why. At the end of the season I plan on emptying out some water. It is a 26,000 gallon pool. #1: Can you tell me how much I should drain out? #2 And, how can I prevent the CYA level from...

    CYA

I have a 26,000 gallon above ground pool in southeastern Indiana. When I opened the pool it was green but now it is crystal clear and the pH and alkalinity are balanced. After clearing up the water I rechecked the CYA level and it was 80. (I have not added any conditioner to it yet this year).My...

    Gotta question

Ok.so now that I have shocked the heck out of the pool, do I just give it time to let the FC get to a lower level to be able to swim in or is there something I am going to need to do to drop the FC? My normal CYA is 30 to 40 (no I have not purchased a good test kit yet) and my FC tonight was 12...

    Gotta question

I recently got on this site to learn how to get rid of mustard algae. It worked! Thanks! I have read most of the information on this site and just want to clarify...the only reason to shock the pool is if you have algae or high CC? Meaning, if you keep your FC at the recommended level for you...
