Hi, thank you very much for the quick response. Chemistry in the pool is within limits. I think my backwash took off more like 20% of the DE...rather than the 80%. This is one of the reasons I thought maybe pump was too small for that size filter? Should I really have to backwash every 1-2...

I'm starting to think maybe I have a problem, I am going through DE like crazy. So, my pool has gone from green with tons of leaves on the bottom (long story) to light blue but still cloudy in the deep end. The bottom is pretty much cleaned up as best I can tell. But now just trying to see...

I think it is a seal of some kind, but I'd much rather do it with someone who knows what they are doing the first time around.

...I don't think the plate has anything to do with it. It is really the end of the hose area, see diagram. That said, without the plate I could certainly get it deeper so I could vaccuum at a normal water level...so great idea! But I don't have anything to hold the hose on the hole...does...

I tried to find this in a string, sorry I couldn't locate. I usually use the 1lb dry packets of super shock. 53% cal-hypo I think. How many gallons of liquid bleach = the 1lb bag powder shock? Thanks for your help!

Ha ha. Thanks. That would have made me feel pretty dumb. But yeah, I have them on the correct end. My hose manufacturer was nice enough to label the ends for me.

Thanks for the note. I tried duct tape in bulk originally. Didn't work. Bought a new hose. Same issue. Bought another hose...same issue. Very strange don't you think?
