    Copper in skimmers

I have a mineral cartridge that fits in my SWG unit. I don’t replace it because it’s expensive and I think I remember folks here don’t think they are necessary. I saw a video where a guy put copper plumbing fittings in his skimmer. Copper and silver are what are in my mineral cartridge. So...

    Know what this is??

No. I think it is what you mention. I used to brush my pool once a week and I haven’t been doing it…….these have showed up around the same time. Think I’ll take pumice and carefully remove them…..then go back to brushing and see what happens

    Know what this is??

Yes, that’s what’s showing above the water. Not the greatest picture, but I’m referring to the “things” on the wall BELOW the water line

    Know what this is??

Hi, I’ve been developing “tear drops” of something running down my walls below the water line and very white spots on the floor. Any idea what these are? Thanks, Doug

    Calcium Scale

Thank you both. Does anyone have experience with a mixer solution of Muriatic acid to water?? I soaked my swg cell last week in a 10:1 ratio and afterwards I poured down the wall. It melted the scale away. My question is if it is safe……I know it works, but is it safe on the grout?

    Calcium Scale

Hi, I get calcium scale around the pool and especially below my sheer descents. Using a pumice stone for removal is time consuming and doesn’t usually get it all. Plus, getting in and out of the grout lines is really difficult and removes grout. Is a mix of muriatic acid and water safe to...

Can Muriatic acid be left outside?

Hi, I keep my pool supplies inside and was wondering about Muriatic acid. I was wanting to start keeping that outside by my pool equipment. It is in a plastic bottle. It would be exposed to the outside elements including quite a bit of sun. Will this degrade the acid? Thanks, Doug

Jandy Pump hum and not working

Thanks so much James! You sound like my father who is a retired (88 years old) electrical engineer. Love it....respect. One last question....both my pool pump capacitors are identical except one has a +-5% and the other is a +-6%. Can I interchange these because I did today.

Jandy Pump hum and not working

Thanks ajw22. I have two pumps and I took the capacitor out of the working one and installed in the non-working one. BINGO!! I’m back up and running. Thank you!!! I don’t know much about capacitors and I have the exact same one pictured in that link you replied to me with. How do I order...

Jandy Pump hum and not working

Hi, I came home today and noticed my Jandy pump was not on. I turned off and on my timer switch and I heard a hum for about 5 seconds and then a click. The pump is not coming on. Any ideas what’s going on? Thanks, Doug.

    Raypak 406A

I have a Raypak 406A pool heater. I had the front cover off to install a new flame roll-out switch. I turned the heater on and it fired up and the wind blew it out. I went to turn it back on and nothing...…..not even the display is working. It's dead. I did turn all the power off and still...

    “Tears” on my quartz walls

This year (#6 pool year), I notice areas that looks like tears running down the wall. They are the color of the quartz aggregate finish and about an inch long. Any idea what this is? All my testing is in range.

    Shock replacement

Hey guys....pool cover is still on. I’m preparing and that’s why I’m asking. I’d bet my CYA is around 35. I can revisit this when I open with full test results. For now, I’m just confirming things. Sounds like I will follow the non-SWG numbers and use the FC shock level

    Shock replacement

Can you confirm my understanding please? I have a SWG. Am I reading my CYA level should be 60 to 70? Can you confirm my understanding of the SLAM method please? I have a SWG. Looks like my CYA needs to be between 70 and 80? To start the SLAM, I take care of Ph first, then add enough...

    Shock replacement

Thank you. My test kit I have always used is the Taylor K-2006. I have a SWG. My CYA is around 35, but that’s last years reading. Yes, I’ve been a member for 5 years and I progress year by year. I use “grocery store” items for everything but shocking. I’m asking for help to get me there...
