    High salt causes?

Did you check your fill water before adding salt? My fill water (aka tap water) had 680 ppm salt.

What I believe to be scaling, requesting assistance with resolution

Thanks, the first PH number was a guess since it was off the charts. The pool is 35K gallons, the length is over 50 feet, I took a water meter reading before and after filling it; the deep end is real deep at 9 feet. For the first acid adjustment I will come clean and admit that I used 1 gallon...

Thanks again, That makes sense the acid demand is lower than it was last year.

What I believe to be scaling, requesting assistance with resolution

Thanks chem geek. I am going to be adjusting chemistry (TA) for a SWG, when I close this autumn (Oct - May). Is there anything you can recommend to avoid this happening next year? Lower CH? Testing and adjusting Chemistry while pool is closed?

What I believe to be scaling, requesting assistance with resolution

Update: Based upon browsing this forum: I tried dropping the sediment into MA and it fizzes, is this the acid test for calcium-something? I believe that this is a minor scaling issue so I dropped the PH to 7.2 yesterday and it appears that vigorus brushing helps to remove what is left of the...

What I believe to be scaling, requesting assistance with resolution

Yes sorry I forgot to mention that. I took a look at that link and my deposits not as crystalline as those in that thread and definitely not as severe as those calcium sulfate deposits mentioned in the article.

What I believe to be scaling, requesting assistance with resolution

Hi All and thanks for the replies. Sorry for the 9+ reading it was just a notation to myself to indicate what appeared to be an off the scale reading (above 8.2). I use the TF-100 test kit for my testing and the pool calculator to adjust chemistry. The 150oz of MA did bring the PH down to 7.5, I...

What I believe to be scaling, requesting assistance with resolution

Hi All, We did a pool renovation last summer (August 2014), I closed the Pool on 9/20/14 with a PH of 7.2. The pool was opened yesterday and after opening yesterday and running the pump for 5 hours: I am currently using CL tabs and once this is resolved I will add the salt and convert over...

It is Diamond Brite Super Blue, the actual color or appearance at anyone moment depends on the sun and wave action.

Love cars, all kinds; when I'm not testing my pool water or skimming leaves you will probably find me washing the cars.

    It's so sparkly

I have been following the TFP method since we did our renovation in July and I must say it is looking good! I was considering adding borax next season, but I don't want to blind anyone with more sparkle. Thank you Jason and everyone else that makes the forum so helpful.

Newly refurbished pool - Can I close or should I wait for acid demand to subside?

Jacob, Jason: Thanks for the replies. I spoke to the folks who will be closing the pool and they said that closing on the Sept 22nd would be fine, and that prior to closing I should look to have my TA at 120 and the PH at 7.2. They also offer a monthly service (Oct-Mar) where they haul in a...

Newly refurbished pool - Can I close or should I wait for acid demand to subside?

Hi, We just had our IG pool refurbished in July; Coping, Tile and Diamond Brite. My chemicals are in balance but I do find myself adding about 1 gallon of Muriatic acid per week (1 quart every 2 days) in an attempt to keep the PH at 7.5. The latest test results (TF-100) are: PH = 7.8 FC= 5.0...

Are these reasonable prices to replaster and replace tile on an old pool?

We just paid $17,200 for a refurb on a 35,000 gallon pool, this included tile, travertine coping and diamond brite. They demoed and redid the bond beam. Our previous finish lasted 20 years, but I should have probably redone the pool 5 years ago :)

Got the Aquabot yesterday and dropped it in last night, I went to bed and this morning had a clean pool! Looks like it covered the entire area. For now I would say it is a success!

Robotic Cleaner for 55 foot pool

Dave, Thanks for the input, I ordered an Aquabot T4RC. 5000 GPH, 75' cord and supposedly works fine on any shape pool. Should have it in a week, I'll update the post with the results. Jim

Robotic Cleaner for 55 foot pool

Based on some of the reviews provided here I was considering a Dolphin Supreme pool cleaner (M4/M5). The issue is that the specs for these cleaners state that they are good for pools up to 50 feet in length, our pool is 55 feet. The pool is not rectangular but rather an organic shape; it is a...
