    Hard plumbing a Doughboy AGP

I thinking about converting from the cheapo hoses to schecule 40 pvc. At first glance the fitting on the bottom of my skimmer and the fitting on the return, are set up to have a hose clamped on them. Is this also the right size for pvc, or do I need to come up with some different fittings...

    Leaking Hayward Sand filter

Well, I fixed the leaking filter. It turns out the O-ring was out of it's groove and it got snagged by one of the bolts. I had another O-ring, so I swapped them and I was extra careful putting it together. No more leaks! Small victories!

Decks....built over or under the top rail.....?

Hey everyone, I just built my AGP and I am getting ready to start on phase 1 of the deck. My wife and I are debating back and forth if the deck should over hang the top rail of the pool or go underneath it. I am curious to hear what others have done, and why you chose one way over the other...

    Leaking Hayward Sand filter

What should I use for o-ring lubricant? Is there a specific product for this? Maybe just some lithium grease or vaseline?

My Craigslist 18x34 Doughboy AGP build

Hi! I did get my gaskets at Zager's...along with a liner and....LOL! I managed to get my skimmer and return hooked up, but now my sand filter is leaking. It is one of the older Hayward filters where the body of the filter is two halves held together with around 20 bolts in a flange. It is...

    Leaking Hayward Sand filter

I just built a used Doughboy AGP in my back yard. Yesterday I managed to get the skimmer and return cut into the liner and I hooked up the pump and sand filter. The sand filter is older, I would say it's from the mid to late 90's. It's a Hayward, but I forgot to check the exact model (it...

Older Doughboy - is it in good enough shape to use?

You can just roll the wall up, like a scroll. Tie it up with some rope or bungee cords and haul it away.

My Craigslist 18x34 Doughboy AGP build

Actually...the liner is brand new! The liner that was in the pool, when I took it down, was junk.

My Craigslist 18x34 Doughboy AGP build

Hey, My pool saga started last summer when I found a 28' round AGP, with a deck that went all the way around the pool, a slide, and all the equipment, on CL, for $100. All I had to do was tear it down and haul it home. I worked for a week straight, after my day job and over the weekends to...

    Unexpected guests

They seem cute now, but in the long run I imagine they will be quite dirty as far as your pool goes. I can't say for sure that they will cause "damage", but they will definitely up your chlorine usage.

    bonding question

I am installing an 18 x 34 AGP. There will be a wooden deck around the pool and the ladders will attach to the deck. The parts of the ladders that are in the water are plastic, but the hand rails that connect the plastic rungs to the deck are metal. Do these hand rails have to be connected to...

Re: 1st 1/2 of deck finished with waterfall (pics) I can see the pics now! That is beautiful! That is the first water fall I have seen on an AGP. Do you have any pictures of how you did it?

Thanks Glock! My install starts Friday! My pool is actually a Craigslist find. I paid $100 bucks for it and the wall and everything looks like brand new. My excavator starts digging Friday morning and I am doing the rest. Wish me luck! We bought the same Doughboy liner you have. I love...

    Unexpected guests

I had some friends who had a pair of ducks, swimming on their winter cover, one spring. When they went to take the cover off, several weeks later, they had thousands of minnows swimming on their cover! It turns out, ducks carry fish eggs in their feathers! Who knew?

Anyone use a water level to install their pool?

John T...I'm curious as to what is difficult about a water level. I haven't actually used one, but it seemed considerably cheaper to make one than to rent a laser for $75/day. I'm on a pretty tight budget here.....

    Deck Alternative

You might be able to build a small platform using Deck Block piers for the foundation. http://www.lowes.com/pd_19070-1662-DEK-BLOCK+BRAND+PIER_42 You would still have a few hundred dollars into it, but you could take it with you when you move. You will also need to check your local ordinances...

Anyone use a water level to install their pool?

The excavator is coming to dig my pool on June 14. One of my projects before he comes is to make a water level! I am going to make a couple of 5' clear tubes that will screw on to my 50' garden hose. This will give me a 5/8" diameter tube and the level should stabilize more quickly. I am...

    multiple skimmers?

Due to some crazy local zoning issues...I have a round AGP that I can't use and an oval AGP that will be getting installed in two weeks. They are both Doughboy pools and they both came with the same skimmer. The oval pool has two skimmer cutouts. Is there any advantage to having two skimmers...

What I have learned about used pools.

I had a similar experience buying a used pool. I bought a used, 28' round, AGP at the end of last summer. It came with a deck that goes all the way around the pool, the slide....the whole nine yards. I tore it all down and stored it in my garage all winter, with plans of putting it up this...

    Hello!

Well, we managed to get rid of the liner we bought for the 28' round pool! Managed to get most of our money out of it too. Ordering the 18x34 oval liner this afternoon. This, of course is not a common size, so it has to be special ordered. Hoping to schedule the excavator for June 13 or 14.

    Hello!

Thanks Bob, We got a killer deal on this oval pool. This pool is at least 15 yrs old and all components are rust free...including the wall that was below ground. As far as back filling goes, there will be deck all the way around the pool, so you won't see it. My yard is brutally hard clay...

    Hello!

I do have a quick question. I watched the current Doughboy install video for oval pools. I believe the side supports in the video were "non-buttress". They buried a cinder block under the side support and bracket under the support pushed against the buried cinder block. My oval pool is...

    Hello!

Hi, I'm Jeremy. I'm new to the board and I thought I would introduce myself. At the end of last summer, my wife and I found a used, 28' round, Doughboy pool, with a deck that went all the way around the pool, and a slide, on Craigslist for $100. We of course had to take it all down. That...
