Green water - moved topic from introductions

Oh, and never mind about the CYA number. I redid the test and it's just north of 40 - it must've been the lighting conditions when I did it this morning. Re-tested outside in daylight as recommended in pool school / forum posts, and it came out where I calculated it should have.

lol, sorry about that - I took two tests and averaged them this morning, just to make sure they were in the same general vicinity (and I wasn't doing something stupid). The 8.7 is the average of the two. I don't know how I would characterize it. I think it looks fine, but then again, I don't...

Will send Jason a PM directly, and see what we can work up. Thanks! I couldn't have gotten the pool squared away without y'alls help, it's been a lifesaver (mostly with the wife of course :) ) -Mike-

This site is farkin' awesome - I'd like to thank all you guys / gals for your help over the past week. Update: the pool is coming along nicely! Still just slightly cloudy, but with scrubbing and vacuuming for the past three days, it's almost clear. I added a little DE to the filter to speed...

    Sand Filter - weird issue

No, my equipment isn't above the water line that's why it's so strange that the pump would "suck in" after changing the multi-port valve positions. I did manage to rectify the issue, however. It seems that the multi-port valve gasket wasn't seated properly and for some reason, after fixing...

    Sand Filter - weird issue

Hi Guys, A new issue has developed with my sand filter (I think it's the sand filter anyway). Here's the problem: I put the sand filter in filter mode, and the PSI is 14 (it used to be 10, but I eliminated an air leak on the pump basket, so I'm assuming the filter pressure would rise due to...

Green water - moved topic from introductions

I found the source of my issues for the vacuum - ran water over the joints on my suction line, when it came over the basket cover, the air churn stopped. So, I've got a new o-ring and lube on order. Once I get those in, I should be able to solve that issue (unless the top cover is warped, but...

Question about what seems to be a suction side leak.

To be perfectly honest, I looked at that flex when I started up the pool, saw the abundance of pipe clamps on it, and decided that at some point this summer it's going to get ripped out and replaced with hard line. Which reminds me, when I do replace it, should I reduce at fittings to 1.5", and...

Question about what seems to be a suction side leak.

The skimmer shows no signs of burping or vortex, so I guess we can rule that out. I should note (forgot to in my previous post) that it goes like thus: skimmer->union->1.5" flex line->union valve->straight male-male section of 1.5" hardline->basket inlet. I'm going to try the water hose trick...

Question about what seems to be a suction side leak.

Hi guys, Dropping in to the pumphouse, my original intro thread and so forth is here if for some reason you need a reference: green-water-moved-topic-from-introductions-t58765.html In any event, you can see my filter / pump setup in my sig, and I didn't realize it previously, but after...

I will give that a shot linen, thanks for the tip. HAHA, I completely neglected to factor in for the other 6" below the rim - I'll change that directly.

Green water - moved topic from introductions

well, I was trying a bunch of different methods. Let me describe the process in great gory detail so I don't misspeak. First, I attached the hose to the vacuum head, and pushed it down to the bottom of the pool. Then, I fed the hose in to the pool to try and get as much water in it as I...

Green water - moved topic from introductions

Well, I went out and got a vacuum head, sank it (or tried to) in the pool, turned on the pump, and tried to charge the vacuum line with water. I hooked it up to the skimmer plate, and tried to vacuum, but the pump lost prime. Note that I tried to do this a whole bunch of times, tried to sink...

That's what I was thinking as well, but I figured I'd ask anywho just in case. Can you folks recommend a good (pref. cheap, but long-lasting haha) AG vinyl pool vacuum / hose combo for me? I've tried wading through all the gunk on amazon, et al, but I can't make heads or tails of what's good...

Alrighty, Got the Taylor 2006 kit today - what a world of difference! Anyway, new numbers: FC: 8.8 (I added 2 quarts and 2 cups of 8.25% per the calculator to bring FC to 12 for continuing shock - it was a busy day today, so I wasn't able to "hawk" it like I have the past few days.)...

Tested again. There is now foam on top. Question, is the foam from oxidation of the organics? Just curious what makes it foam. Here's another picture: [attachment=0:2niw8jpm]IMG_20130506_175110.jpg[/attachment:2niw8jpm] Stats, Tc dark orange Ph 6.9 ish Temp 72 H2O temp 66...

No overflow, so I would have to manually adjust. However, I'm actually hoping for rain, as then I'd just, when I get the vacuum, vacuum to waste and not have to worry about refill. Win win I guess! I added a half-gallon of bleach just to"keep the orange" as it were. And yup, I don't...

Green water - moved topic from introductions

Indeed, that's what I figured, and I cannot wait until Wednesday to come (That's when the taylor should arrive). So, I figure if I notice any change in hue of the "orange", I'll just add a little bit more chlorine to bring it back to the darker shade. Luckily, I'm pretty decent at...

Green water - moved topic from introductions

Good Morning! So, after adding the chlorine shock, the stabilizer and the baking soda, this is what we have: TC: Orange - so I'm guessing it's still in shock mode, though with the test kit I have (HTH 6-way until the better one gets here), I have no way of knowing what the actual level is...

Green water - moved topic from introductions

I concur that getting all the junk out would make it would go quicker / better, but unfortunately, all the tools are busted from the orig. owner. I've got new ones coming (should be here by Wednesday), so I'll just have to make do with adding more bleach for the immediate future. And, I...
