What to do with my pool light niche that keeps rusting... including on the cord!

I am all for having someone replace the light, especially with the cord looking as it does... but with the niche having rust/corrosion in it, won't the new light just rust again? The current light is only one year old. The light before it never showed any rust outside and worked for 25 years....

What to do with my pool light niche that keeps rusting... including on the cord!

I took the light out of the niche today and used a scrub pad to remove the rust from the light and the screw. Came off pretty well. I was also able to remove some small rust spots in the niche with the same scrub pad, but not the biggest rust spots, just the little spots on the sides. Also...

What to do with my pool light niche that keeps rusting... including on the cord!

Sorry for the delay! I was out of town this weekend. Current readings are: FC: 5.0 pH: 7.6 TA: 80 CH: 375 CYA: 75 CSI from poolmath: -0.4. I check my PH daily. Since the pool was resurfaced last September, I have to add acid every 2-3 days to keep the ph between 7.4-7.6.

What to do with my pool light niche that keeps rusting... including on the cord!

First, a little history: This pool was resurfaced in September 2017. Prior to that we had no rust issues with our pool light. They put in a new pool light because the 30 year old bulb in the old one had died. In July 2018, I noticed a small rust stain underneath the pool light. I called a...

Will high level of chlorine damage pebbletec / pebblesheen?

Hello, We are in process of having our pool cage painted and rescreened. Yesterday, they pressure washed the very dirty cage with a bleachy-smelling solution. I wasn't concerned at first because I figured it would just raise my chlorine levels. After they left, I went out to look around and...

    The "why" behind ph rise?

Hello, We had our pool refinished from painted plaster to Pebblesheen last month. Our pool builder did the start up, but now we are taking over. I know it's common with new surfaces for the pool ph to rise and acid will be needed frequently for quite a while. My question is why? Why do new...

Should I put anything on the end of the backwash line?

:o So you guys don't think they would be able to crawl up the pipe and into the filter and mess something up? I'm not too worried about them being in the pipe itself, my concern it about them somehow getting into the filter...

    Changing the shaft/impeller seal?

Okay, that makes sense. Once I tighten down the impeller it will push them together. Thank you!

    Changing the shaft/impeller seal?

I'm in process of putting on a new Sta-Rite Dura Glass motor. I have the ceramic seal already pressed into the housing between the motor and impeller. I tried to put the spring part of the seal on the shaft in between impeller and housing, but it seemed like the spring part of the seal did not...

Should I put anything on the end of the backwash line?

So, I've decided that it's time to take the backwash line of my sand filter underground. Right now it empties about 12" above the ground and is right beside the pump. I'm wondering if that contributed to the motor failure we just had... Anyway, my question is once I put it the line underground...

    Is my impeller bad?

Just as a follow-up in case anyone looks at this sometime down the road.... My old impeller didn't seem to have a balance issue caused by the chip. I went back to the pool store that I bought the new impeller from and the associate there didn't think the chip would cause an issue. He also took...

    Is my impeller bad?

I'm in process of replacing a Sta-Rite Dura Glas pump motor, 1 hp. I noticed my old impeller had a chip on the side of it as shown below. I am wondering if it really needs to be replaced? I thought it would, but then when I got the new one out of the package I found what I think may be...

How to protect the pump motor from water?

We actually have one of those covers like Durk suggested, but it doesn't fit properly. Even if it did, I'm not sure it could shield the pump from all the backwash spray... I'm definitely leaning toward extending the pipe, just need to figure out where to do so... To get to a lower elevation...

what's the purpose of a bonding hub?

Yes, I believe our pool shell is gunite. I'll check around in the morning to see if I can find the wire. I'm thinking the patio was extended sometime after the initial construction of the house and pool so I don't know that the pump system is even in the same place that it was when the house...

How to protect the pump motor from water?

Any tips I should know before extending the pipe? I know at some point I read something about needing something if your backwash line was over 40 foot. But I have no idea where I read that info.

what's the purpose of a bonding hub?

It's a 12,000 gallon in-ground rectangular pool. I thought I was doing pretty good on replacing this motor, but I'm obviously not an electrician. So, my pump and filter is probably 10 feet away from the pool, maybe more. Am I understanding your comment right that it only needs to be bonded if...

How to protect the pump motor from water?

I'm replacing my Sta-Rite Dura-Glass motor. Like the old one, the new one has slots in the housing that I assume are to allow the heat to escape. However, the backwash line off my sand filter empties out right next to the pump. The old motor had a metal cover that did not really fit properly and...

what's the purpose of a bonding hub?

On my old Sta-Rite Dura-Glas motor, there was nothing hooked to the bonding hub on top. It only had the green, black, and white wires that actually went into the back end of the motor. The new motor I am replacing it with also has a bonding hub on top. I am wondering what it is for and if I...

    Ceramic seal tightness

I'm installing a new pump motor. Replacing a Sta-Rite Dura-Glas. I put in the ceramic seal on the pump housing that goes in front of the actual motor, but the shaft for the motor does not sit tightly through the ceramic seal. Is this normal? Or is something wrong? Should there be space between...
