Really need help. SWG seems to be working, but chlorine level zero.

Smykowski, So the equipment at a pool store accurately measure strips. What a bummer! I was really hoping for something more precise. From now on – I trust my own testing. Pool school – I am on my way! SLAM - FC/CYA ratio looks good to me. I was just pointing out – from a newbie perspective –...

Really need help. SWG seems to be working, but chlorine level zero.

Thanks for the reply. I don’t remember seeing bubbles from our return jets, but I will check. We have the large pool test kit (very nice). My wife is a pharmacist and enjoys the testing process. Thank you for the advice – we will use the SLAM. - - - Updated - - - Divin Dave, I agree, it...

Really need help. SWG seems to be working, but chlorine level zero.

First, thank you for taking the time to help. We have a problem. Although it appears our cell (TE-15) is working (1 year old cell), our chlorine level drops quickly to zero. Here’s a little background. Our instant salt reading is 3400. Our pump runs 12 hours per day. The cell reading: 26V 7A...

Advice needed to control erosion around concrete deck.

I have decided to use corrugated drain pipe with stone to control erosion / drainage problems around concrete deck. I have also decided to landscape our steep slope with landscape fabric, large boulders and river rock. Wish me luck. Thanks. Dave

Advice needed to control erosion around concrete deck.

I really need advice on controlling erosion around our concrete deck. Our pool was built on a small downgrade, which required over 200 yards of sand backfill. What is the best method of controlling runoff? Should I use corrugated drain pipe and gravel around the perimeter? Can I just add top...

Automatic Cover - Should I cover this cover during winter?

First of all – thank you for answering my posts! Although we are new pool owners, you have given our family a sense of confidence. We have installed an automatic cover, which as you know, was very expensive. Although it can be used as a winter cover, I am thinking about protecting it throughout...

Fact or Fiction? Aircraft flying over your pool can affect y

Re: Fact or Fiction? Aircraft flying over your pool can affe The beanie is awesome! Are there any other byproducts from aircraft fuel that would affect pool water? Just trying to eliminate all possibilities. Thanks for the laugh!

Fact or Fiction? Aircraft flying over your pool can affect y

Re: Fact or Fiction? Aircraft flying over your pool can affe Sounded like snake oil to me, but thought I would ask. From what I have heard, they say airplane exhaust can contain unspent fuel, which affects your pool. I think they are right, but only if your pool is at the end of a runway.

Fact or Fiction? Aircraft flying over your pool can affect y

Our local pool store said that planes flying over a pool can affect chemistry, which can be controlled by a product they sell. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the product. Is this a fact or fiction?

Insulating walls if you have an auto-cover.

Harleysilo - Thanks for the reply. From what I have been reading, insulation is a highly debated topic. Personally I would be happy with any improvement in heat retention. I need all the help I can get in Michigan. I have 2 inches of vermiculite on the floor, which should offer a little...

Insulating walls if you have an auto-cover.

I just looked up the Polystyrene insulated sheating I purchased from Lowes and the specs are - virtually no moisture absorbtion; 0.1%.

Insulating walls if you have an auto-cover.

This is interesting. I found a swimming pool insulation made from XPS (Styrozone H350r - whatever that is). They claim that polystyrene (foam board) will absorb water - unlike their product (of course). I will keep digging for info.

Insulating walls if you have an auto-cover.

I have read numerous old posts regarding wall insulation, but could not find a topic that discussed auto-covers. Installing an auto-cover will drastically reduce heat loss, assuming of course you keep it closed most of the time. I am thinking about installing 2 inch foam board on the outside...

What colour steps? White or coloured?

We are building our first pool and had trouble making this decision. We must have looked at hundreds of pictures with white or colored steps. It’s really personal preference. Do you like the contrast in color? We felt that the white steps jumped out of the picture instead of blending in. We...

New member, new pool, SWG question before filling pool

Thanks for the responce. I am starting to realize just how much I need to learn in a short period of time. I have been concentrating on building the pool - now I need to take care of it. Any suggestions on a good test kit? Sounds like I better start reading your pool school. We are...

New member, new pool, SWG question before filling pool

First of all, thank you for taking the time to read my post. We am currently building a pool and could use a little advice from our new friends on TFP. Our current plan is to install liner and fill pool this Saturday (April 27), but I am not sure how long it will be before I have my SWG up and...
