It looks like it could be a space saving joint connector with three unions to make repair / upgrade easier than cutting glued pipes and couplers. Best guess would be the O-rings around one or more of the unions are done and need to be replaced and lubed, grab an oil filter wrench to get them off.

I was very tempted to install my new heater myself, it isn’t complicated, but I opted to hire a professional given the costly consequences of making a simple mistake with those lines, I had everything ready for them to switch it out and the labor wasn’t expensive.

In my limited experience the pump was pretty straight forward and each time only took about half an hour. Take photos as you go for reference and ensure the power is off! I have bought two pumps from amazon, the prices tend to fluctuate.

Agree the DE filter is ready for a clean but you should have seen improvement after backwashing.... Have you had any changes in the water level? Have you tried priming the pump by filling the basket with water from the garden hose, then release air while the pump is priming using the filter...

Is there a relay for the timer that may have blown?

Ok, I have established it's an issue with he new EASY TOUCH CIRCUIT BOARD. I reinstalled the old Pentair board and the pump pulls water and works no problem.... So either the new board is bad, or it is sensing air and tripping. Feel a bit stupid for not swapping the boards back out...

Does the pump get extremely hot before it shuts down to reset? That would signal it may be the capacitor again.

If there was an air leak on the suction side, would the backwash still work without issue, but normal pump function would fail if it doesn't prime?

Sounds like it could be the run capacitor to me.... It's easy to change and should be about $15 from Amazon or Grainger.

Erasing the eeprom didn't change the issue. I had wondered if it was failing was caused by overriding a heat sensor issue, but as soon as I started the pump after erasing it tried to run for ten seconds, couldn't prime and then started surging and tripping. Thanks
