    First time

Hello, though I’ve had my pool many years, this is the first year I am opening by myself. I connected everything, but I have one piece that I can’t figure out where it belongs. I would appreciate if anyone could guide me.

    Winterizing/closing

Thanks for the advice! I know in the past, the filter and hoses, etc were stored inside the garage for the winter so I’m sure we will do that this year. Same with the ladder. Aside from balancing the water and getting the chlorine level high, do you add anything else?

    Winterizing/closing

I know it early, but I need to get a jump start on winterizing/closing my pool for the season. I’ve always had someone else do the closings but would like to try to do it myself this year! Anyway, I read the article on wintering/closing! Question: I have a leaf net/cover that I will put on and...

    CYA QUESTION

I’ve been using all liquid chlorine for the past 2 months. Now I need to raise my CYA a bit. It is currently 30. Is this ok to use or is there a good recommendation? Also, will it throw anything else off that I need to be aware of? Really taking a long time for me to get the Alkalinity down...

    High phosphates

I think I’ve got a good handle on things so far thanks to all your help! Now I need to add some water and my fill water from the hose has a TA 310 ppm. Is there anything extra I should do at this point?

    Ok thanks!

    High phosphates

Ok will do. And if it does go up by a lot (like how much) what do I need to do? I retested pool TA this morning also and it’s at 180 so at least it is slowly starting to come down

    High phosphates

Fill water from the hose TA is 310ppm

    High phosphates

Ok. Good insight! I will test that tomorrow morning!

    High phosphates

No clue! I guess I should test that but never thought about it. I can’t really change what comes from my hose

    High phosphates

Ok, got it! Does the pH rise that quickly (in 24 hours?)

    High phosphates

I added the MA abt 24 hrs ago, a little more. I tested this morning around 7:30 am

    High phosphates

Repeat testing again? Right after adding the MA, or the following day?

When I used pool math, my target for pH was low 7s per the previous recommendation to help with the TA. But it only came down to 7.9? Can you tell me what you mean by “rinse and repeat”

    High phosphates

Added muriatuc acid per the pool math app yesterday and tested pH this morning. It is 7.9. Should I continue to add muriatic acid everyday until the level goes down more? Thank goodness I’m retired now bc this is a full time job lol! Sorry, hopefully by next summer I’ll know enough to not ask...

    High phosphates

Retested all levels this morning. Here are the results. I added muriatic acid about a week ago and pH is still high. I test FC everyday, but how often should I test the others? Why is my pH still so high? Next steps? More muriatic acid?

    Got it!

    High phosphates

Is it better to test in the morning or at night when calculating how much liquid chlorine to add?
  25. S

    High phosphates

Disregard my last question! It is showing the target to be 4-8 now. Not sure what was looking at before!
  26. S

    High phosphates

Sorry…back again with another question. Pool math says that if my CYA is 50, then FC Target should be 1-3. That seems low to me, or is that correct?
  27. S

    High phosphates

    Thanks for all the help!

    High phosphates

Did the overnight test. Last night FC was 5.5-6 ppm. This morning FC is 5ppm so I assume I am ok there. What are my next steps? Use Pool Math ( for how much Muriatic acid) to bring the PH down to low 7s and then once TA comes down, PH should be high 7’s? Also, do I continue to test daily? And...

    High phosphates

Ok. So since my FC WAS 7ppm, I shouldn’t add chlorine tonight, correct? Then once the sun goes down, do the FAS-DPD test again and record. Do the test again in the morning before sun hits the pool and be sure there isn’t more than 1ppm loss?
