    Best method to raise CYA

Was only using the solid chlorine until I got the stabilizer to the correct level. Then plan on switching to liquid. I will follow the advice and get some stabilizer to get the cya up and switch over to the liquid. On a separate note, will Calcium Hypochlorite raise my cya? At the pool store...

    Best method to raise CYA

I just re-filled my pool this season and am struggling to get my CYA up. I have been using dichlor shock (3 pounds added so far) and trichlor tabs (about 10 tabs dissolved so far). It hasn't been working as my CYA is still below 10. My pool is 25k gallons. Here are my full test results FAC -...

    Pool Draining Pump

Yeah, I was under the impression that it was plaster...but I had a pool repair guy come out to look at, what I thought was plaster damange, only to find out it was a fiberglass pool. Shows exactly how much I know about pools

    Pool Draining Pump

It is fiberglass both on the sides and bottom. CH is high, 400. Came out of the tap that way.

    Pool Draining Pump

So I drained my pool this past weekend and it is now full again. I tested my FC before the drain and it was off the charts high (25 ppm). I guess having 3 tablets in the pool during the winter in AZ is far too many. I ended up draining about 3/4 of the water and refilling. Right now my levels...

    Pool Draining Pump

Awesome, thanks...Since I have to repair the plaster once it is empty, I am going to drain all the way. I will test my tap water (fill water) and post the results to get recommendations on chemicals I will need to add right away upon re-filling.

    Pool Draining Pump

I have about a 25,000 gal inground pool which needs to be drained. Would this type of pump work sufficiently to do the job (I know it may take 1 day+, but just wondering if it would get the job done). Thanks...

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

I know it grows in certain areas, but not only the areas that are mostly in the shade. Usually on the vertical areas of the steps and the bench seat within the pool. I am going to start raising up the FC level and see how quickly it diminishes to see what I would be up against to keep the FC...

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

My water is clear. But, I have been fighting green/yellow alge growing on the sides every couple of weeks (but now I know that is most likely due to not having enough FC in the water). I will probably stock on on liquid chlorine and keep the FC between 11-13 for the next couple of months...

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

I just tested my CH...coming in around 900. Question regarding the test. Am I supposed to stir the vial after I add each drop of the R-0012? When I did the test, I added 10 drops at a time and then stirred. The red liquid clearly turned to blue at 90 drops... In terms of the CYA...I did use...

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

Alright...so I just got my TF-100 Test Kit in the mail. I have performed my first test and the readings are below. FC: 7 ppm CC: .5 TC: 7.5 TA: 110 CYA: 150 PH: 7.2 Now according to the CYA/FC chart, with a CYA of 100, I would need a minimum of 7 ppm chlorine. However, it does not go up to 150...

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

the test kit I have only has a max reading of 5 ppm for chlorine. Can I utilize the same method you mentioned about testing the CYA with half tap water and half pool water then doubling it for Chlorine as well?

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

I will try your idea of testing half pool water and half tap water then doubling it tonight and report back. In the meantime, in terms of chlorine to use, I am guessing liquid chlorine/bleach would be my best bet, because the powder shock and tabs would continue to raise the CYA, right? I may...

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

I got a test kit and have tested my water. The big thing that is standing out to me is that my CYA is off the charts...100+. Now from reading the Pool School I have found out that the only way to lower the CYA is to drain and fill...However, being in Phoenix and having a plaster pool, I can't...

    Chemical to lower phosphates??

I have many trees around my pool and any time the wind kicks up the leaves get tossed into my pool at a very fast rate. I have had my water tested and know that I battle very high phosphate levels. The local pool supply store has tried selling me "PhosFree" to lower the phosphates which would...

Thinking of switching to Bleach as Chlorine...

I am thinking of making the switch from Chlorine Tabs/Shock to liquid bleach chlorine. From what I have read on this site and others, the bleach is one of the simplest ways to chlorine the pool w/o adding extra chemicals which can cause adverse effects. My first question is since I live in...

New Pool Owner - High PSI

The smaller valve on the left is in fact for the aerator (the thing that squirts the water up in the air and back into the pool). I am definitely going to replace those valves. So you think I can get those neverlube valves at the local Home Depot? Thanks for the idea on the FD, I will...

New Pool Owner - High PSI

I guess I'm just trying to delay the pain of paying the huge water bill and pump rental to do a full drain and fill..new homeowner and expenses have been adding up quick...any idea on how much the drain and fill would cost me? In terms of water and pump rental? I tried turning the valves with a...

New Pool Owner - High PSI

Thanks for the welcome post!! I was notified by the pool supply store that I would have to drain and fill the pool in the very near future. They told me I should be able to get thru the summer, but next year it will be absolutely necessary. In terms of the ph and chorlene, do you think I was...

New Pool Owner - High PSI

My pool details are in my signature below. Also, here is a list of the chems I just got from my pool store: FAC : .26 TAC : .37 CH : 553 CYA : 174 TA : 78 pH: 7.1 It was recommended that I use 5 lb 15 oz of soda ash to raise the pH. Also, that I put one lb of liquid chlorine to shock it up to...
