    Copper and CH

I went to Jacks website as recommended. When checking out, Jacks suggested I not order until I talk with a technical rep (they are closed) and suggested I buy from a local dealer. That’s why I went to that store. I’ll return it, and be done with that. So what is the recommendation? Jacks #2...

    Copper and CH

Jacks was closed when I called. So I’m sure this will not surprise you, but I went to another local store that sells Jacks Magic. They retested the water and my copper was zero. They had an entire chemistry bench and a lady who’s done this her whole career do the testing so I feel rather...

Ok. So, here’s my plan: I contact the Jacks technician and get everything I need to treat the stains and eliminate the copper. Follow their instructions. Then I empty the pool as much as possible (half way again?) and refill and reheat. Then rebalance and address calcium hardness if needed last...

Yes! Every single week we used pucks and powder, and clear blue liquid. We alternated weeks on stain and scale and a preventative algeacide. We were good about getting the water tested a couple times a month at the pool store, and we’d correct any problems identified.

Yes. I have the testing kit and first focused on the slam. Everything I’ve added since opening the pool is in my logs. Can you see those? I’m wondering if I’ve accidentally blocked access.

We have not used trichlor tablets since opening the pool this year — but we have since owning the house (-17 years) and since completely draining and adding a pebbletec finish in August 2020. We do have a tablet feeder after the heater, but similarly have not used it this year. We run the...

I will take some water from the hose and have it tested just to understand if our water is contributing at all. is there any way to figure out if the pool heater is causing this?

    Copper and CH

one clarification: do I need to empty the pool then completely if the goal is 0? One question: if I’m emptying the pool and exposing the stains, can I treat them while exposed? And not worry about the water because I’m replacing it anyway?

I emptied half the water (about 11k gallons) on May 11. I finished refilling on May 13, then began the balancing, slam, etc — so all within the last 10 days. How will emptying it again change the composition? I mean, where is this copper coming from? My tap? The heater? Will it just come back?

Ah shoot. Ok. I’ll get that. Will that also lower the copper level in the water?

    Copper and CH

I am systematically trying to undo the years of damage from using pool store supplied advice and products. I started by slamming the pool. The yellowish marks on the bottom of the pool remain and after reading other posts I began to understand it was likely copper staining. I had my water tested...

    Balancing alkalinity and PH

Thanks, a related question— I was following the pool math app recommendations to raise it to 70. And, also to lower the PH. Should I ignore their recommendations? This isn’t the first time someone in the forum has given me different advice than the app.

    Balancing alkalinity and PH

Two questions — do I increase alkalinity before addressing the PH? Is sodium hydrocarbonate ok to use instead of baking soda? I bought it last year at a pool store and it is branded as “alkalinity rise”. This forum has taught me to be skeptical of everything I’m doing. 😊 Thanks in advance...

    Gauge replacement

😂 and I’m assuming gauges need to be installed vertically as designed. In other words, I can’t use a bottom thread gauge installed horizontally to look at it from above.

    Gauge replacement

I’m seeking a recommendation for a gauge. It is a back mounted setup, but kind of a pain since it faces the fence. Also wondering if there is an option to switch to a bottom mount so it’s easier to read. Thanks

Can I add chemicals to impact TA and CH while SLAMming the pool?

FC dropped to a 6 overnight. My plan is to treat to lower the PH today as recommended in the article, then start the SLAM process this evening.

Sorry. I was following your initial advice to do the overnight chlorine test first.

    Algae treatment and maintenance

I entered my test results in the app and followed the guidance provided by the app to add 59 oz of chlorine. I also just did the nighttime reading as you recommended and FC is 8. I’ll test again in the morning.

    Algae treatment and maintenance

I do not know but will look that up and try it. Unfortunately I did not test yesterday. My FC dropped from 8 to 3.5 in the last 48 hours though. Just added 60 oz of liquid chlorine tonight as recommended.

    Algae treatment and maintenance

At the end of last year, when we would shock our pool (powder shock), black patches would appear on the pool floor almost immediately. They’d fade and look a bit yellow the next day, could be brushed, but never really went away. Of course the pool stores were no help and we closed the pool...
