    Chlorine loss during slam

After absorbing as much information as possible on the tfp website in previous threads of other users slamming their pool utilizing only a sand filter it seems like we all are happy with the process except for the time it takes for a sand filter to clear a cloudy pool versus users with cartridge...

    Chlorine loss during slam

Thank you so much for the clarification it is so very much appreciated. I will have a look for those indicators and check the level and go from there. I've also decided to add a 50 gallon per minute cartridge filter in line post sand filter to increase my filtration. I can't imagine that...

    Chlorine loss during slam

As the level of sand and it's condition are an unknown I think it's prudent to open up and have a look. Not only to inspect the level but to check its condition. What visual indicators are there of contamination, or sand that needs to be replaced?

    Chlorine loss during slam

And lastly before I remove the MPV I assume I should open the drain of the sand filter to allow it to drain? And if I have to replace the sand should I allow the sand filter to drink completely first before scooping?

    Chlorine loss during slam

Hello I would like to provide an update. Have been continuing the Slam process and increased my free chlorine to 17 as my cya tested at a 43 today. I still have quite a pretty blue pool that is cloudy with about 18 in of clouded visibility. I'm concerned that my filter is not doing its job and...

    Chlorine loss during slam

Just fyi. When we bought the house at the end of summer last year the pool was crystal clear and they had been using it for the past 2 years. It got away from us through our transition from our old home to our new home and it was closed cloudy. But with the recommended closing chemicals

    Chlorine loss during slam

Okay thank you very much. I did notice an improvement today on the clarity of the water and then I brush the sides and it got cloudy again. Maintaining 15ppm FC .5PPM CC (last test) with a cya-39. I found the owner's manual for my swimming pool including the filter and it looks pretty...

    Chlorine loss during slam

Okay I will continue the slam process and brush the sides. The sand filter is on its third year of a new installation and I have not checked the level inside it. Would you recommend I shut the pool down and I guess you remove the selector valve off the top to look inside? Any advice on the...

    Chlorine loss during slam

I can't see the bottom so I can't tell you if there's any solids. But I don't think so as my skimmer baskets and pump baskets after vacuuming to waste are barely filled with just a few leaves. Honestly not much at all. I used to see plumes of cloudiness grow as I vacuumed in the past and brushed...

    Chlorine loss during slam

Thank you both very much for your reply they are greatly appreciated. I've been back washing when the pressure is 25% over Baseline. When I measure cya the dot disappeared just a little bit above the 40 mark. I've been replenishing during the day since demand has greatly dropped. Demand is...

    Chlorine loss during slam

Good afternoon to all! A follow-up on the slam progress on my swimming pool. It has been 7 days since I've begun the slam process. I have achieved less than one part per million or less of chlorine loss overnight. My chlorine demand has diminished greatly. However my pool although blue is still...

    Chlorine loss during slam

Hello all! I have a question about chlorine loss during the slam procedure. Based on my tests and losing 12 parts per million of chlorine in a 4-Hour time period. Wanting to know if this is normal for a cloudy somewhat green pool that I'm trying to recover. I am using the fas/dpd test and am I...

Discrepancy between cya/ fc slamming chart and poolmath recommendation

Thank you sir very much for your reply, it is so appreciated! I have not subscribed to premium pool math so it will not allow me to save my test results. I will go ahead and subscribe and I assume that will then allow me to save my results therefore the slamming free chlorine level will match...

Discrepancy between cya/ fc slamming chart and poolmath recommendation

I am currently slamming my chlorine pool. At a cya level of 35 the full chart recommends 14 parts per million of chlorine. However when using pool math at the same cya level it recommends 10 parts per million for slamming. Could someone please help me with which level is correct? 10 parts per...
