    Swimming with a G-tube

Hi All, It's been a while since I posted or read posts because of being away at the hospital. Last season my family took care of the pool according to a manual I had prepared for them. Only closing and opening were done by pros. I'm coming back home soon and I'll be still having my G-tube. I...

Tips and reminders for new Liquidator users

You are a third or fourth generation of Liquidator users here and many of the problems and issues which you may be facing now have been already addressed, discussed, and solved here. Here are a few tips that may save you a lot of time and aggravation: 1. Hasa’s (the manufacturer) flow...

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" I have an excuse. I was away for a long time. What's yours?

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" I'm looking at this crystal clear pool and I almost can't believe that just chlorine and filtration did the job. I'm also sure that a pool store salesman would have tried to sell me tons of pool chemicals from filtration aids to flocs...

More returns or more intake suction lines

It makes sense perfectly. Flow rate is linearly dependent on the cross section area which is linearly dependent on the square of the diameter. The skimmer's intake is an 11/2" pipe. Obviously two 3/4" on the return side aren't enough. You nailed it, my friend.

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" 36-38 gal of 12.5%, the first thirty of which I bought right away when I started. I may have exaggerated at the beginning by maintaining FC 24 for a few days. I thought better safe than sorry.

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" Hurrah! The pool is crystal clear and the blueish water is more beautiful than the Caribbean’s. I still have some deposits of dead algae on the bottom and algae stuck to the bottom but I’m waiting for my Anthony DE filter...

More returns or more intake suction lines

The return lines are 3/4" and they end up flush with the wall. At the time when the pool was built they didn't install eyeballs yet. I went ahead with a DIY gadget and installed removable eyeballs for better circulation. But keeping in mind that the original design featured a main drain and a...

Leaving my BBB + Liquidator pool in the hands of my family

Re: Leaving my BBB + Liquidator pool in the hands of my fami Sounds good. I'll simply show them the flow meter and if there is no flow they'll use the trichlor tablets as plan B.

Leaving my BBB + Liquidator pool in the hands of my family

I’m almost done turning my green swamp into a sparkling oasis but alas, in a few days I have to leave again for 3-4 weeks. The green swamp occurred last year simply because I was away for a much longer period and I wasn’t around to get anyone prepared. I’m not sure if my family is able...

More returns or more intake suction lines

The pool I inherited from a previous owner had originally two ¾” returns, one main drain, a skimmer and a 11/2" Polaris line. After awhile the previous owner shut off the main drain because water from the water table leaked into it. When I inherited the pool the Polaris line had no use...

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" The pump's lid o-ring was just replaced by a new one and it was also lightly greased with silicone grease. I assume that even a tiny air leak will show as bubbles in the strainer basket, but nothing shows up when the system runs...

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" Alright, I'll try this one. I've had frequent backwashes, because of all the dead algae the filter had to handle. I noticed that every time the filter's pressure went up to the backwash level, that is from 13 to 23-25 PSI, the pump's...

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" Steady she goes, chief. The water has been solid blue for three days, while FC has been kept on at least 20, but most of the time at 24. (CYA=50. pH=7.2). Slowly but surely the cloudiness disappeared. Again, I've learned...

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" Thank you JasonLion and Frogabog, I've been keeping the pool at shock level of 24 FC (CYA 50). I used strips only once in order to determine which CYA reagent was bad ( I had two different batches). So my CYA reading is based on the...

How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" pool

Re: How much chlorine will I need to clean a "FL Everglade" It's been a week now since I started shocking. The water color changed from green to white - blue into blue, but it's cloudy. A couple of days ago the shallow part was a lot clearer and I could see the bottom, but now it's cloudy...

Chlorine upper limit for a given level of CYA?

Yup. As I mentioned, the question was related to my algae infested pool or better call it a green swamp. You were right about saying that the algae dies fast. It did, but I didn't know. I didn't see totally white water. Now I've realized that most of the process is filtering, filtering and more...

Chlorine upper limit for a given level of CYA?

The question relates to clearing an algae infested pool. It's simple. Suppose higher Cl level doesn't damage the equipment. Is there any reason why we don't operate at higher CL level than shock? Why not blast the bejesus out of this algae with high concentration of Cl? I mean what's stronger...

Pressure in DE filter is up but no backwash.

It's old so it's primitive. Either normal circulation through the pool or backwash.

Pressure in DE filter is up but no backwash.

Hi all, I'm in the midst of clearing my green swamp and the DE filter's pressure goes up intermittently so I have to backwash frequently. Needless to say the pump works 24/7. Suppose the pressure goes up by at least twenty and it's night time. What can happen if the pump continues to work...

Chlorine upper limit for a given level of CYA?

Hi chem geek, thank you for your reply. 1. I know this is an equilibrium. Maybe you know its pK. Also, unless CYA is a relatively strong acid you may have omitted its own association – dissociation equil. 2. I didn’t expect a linear relationship. 3. My question was : per a GIVEN level of...

Chlorine upper limit for a given level of CYA?

Based on the CYA-Cl chemistry, whose fine details I've forgotten, is there an upper limit of Cl for a given level of CYA, above which the Cl will stop being effective? I think that there should be an upper limit because after all, the "stabilization" of CYA is a result of the actual bond...

Test and add and test and add... every half an hour

Re: Turning Your Green Swamp Back into a Sparkling Oasis OK, once my pH and CYA stabilized (7.2 and 45) I added liquid chlorine targeting 24 as you suggested. After half an hour FC was 20. I added enough chlorine for FC to reach the target. Half an hour later FC was 22 and CC just 2. At this...

We have tried everything attempting to clear it up

Re: Turning Your Green Swamp Back into a Sparkling Oasis I'm not an expert here, but before the pros reply to your post I can prepare you for the next stage. "Filter Aid" and "Floc" don't kill algae, chlorine does. The bottom line is that you have to kill it faster than it grows back. Have...

Split off of this topic. JasonLion Jason, First thank you for this comprehensive post. I’m sure it has helped a lot of us. I have a couple of questions: You mentioned testing after half an hour. At an average flow of 50 gpm only 1500 gal of water circulate through the pump. What is the...

Testing for CYA - different results for different methods

Testing for CYA - different results for different methods

Re: Testing for CYA - different results for different method Certainly. What's wrong with having more sales? Most chemical reagents are stable , especialy in low temp.
