    What's your current pool temp?

86 this morning while doing my laps. It got pretty cool last night on Long Island and is only expected to be in the mid to high 70's. My pool has been warm all season, maybe it's the full sun all day. Tom

where do you store your robot?

I keep my aquabot in the shed when not in use during the pool season, and in my basement in the winter. Maybe you could buy something like this if you want to keep it outdoors...

Sizing a new pump and filter

My brother has an above ground pool 15' x 30' x 48". It's about 10,000 gallons. He needs a new pump and filter and was looking at this combo. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EVNZLQ/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_it8Wtb13MV2A7 Is this a good combo for his pool? His previous pump was a 1.5 hp. Any and...

Thanks echo, that's interesting. I didn't realize that they sold pool cartridges in micron ratings. Tom

Aquabot t4tc slow or no go - can it be tested out of water?

Before testing it out of water I would get into the pool with the bot, put on a mask, and visualize the drive gears while it is supposed to be moving. If the drive gears are moving then it is a drive belt issue. I'd probably just take off the drive belts (the 2 small amber colored belts) just...

    Aquabot Viva Review

I've only used the L shape setting. The 2 others are rectangular or kidney shape. No maintenance so far, but based on my experience with my previous aquabot, the drive belts need to be replaced every few years. This is an easy do-it-yourself process, and the drive belts cost about 20 bucks...

    Aquabot Viva Review

I'm not sure, the ads say that it learns your pool. I don't really believe that. But it does do a great job of cleaning the pool. Tom

New motot or whole new pump?

Thanks John. Is there a way for me to know if that's the issue? Can you provide a link for these parts? Thanks for the quick response. Tom

New motot or whole new pump?

After a day or two of making high pitched squealing sounds, my Whisperflo Dual speed pump motor finally died. When I try to power it up it just hums. The model of the pump is WFDS-26. It's about 13 years old. I can buy a new motor, shaft seals and gaskets for about $400. I can buy the same...

My Savi Melody LEDs are CONFUDDLED!

Is there a way to unplug them, or turn off the circuit breaker to them? If so, maybe doing this will allow them to reset. Tom

Water level below step to have skimmer working

Hey Holly, If the skimmer opening is completely submerged when the top step is covered with water, your skimmer will just act as another drain. It won't skim the surface of your pool and all the gunk that falls into the water will sink to the bottom. This really needs to be corrected. I...

Which filter on a 50,000 gallon pool?

Hi Cathi, I'm on Long Island too, and my pool is usually open from the middle of May to the end of September. It's not as big as yours at 41,000 gallons. I have a Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 420 cartridge filter. If you're looking for low maintenance, cartridge filters are the way to go...

    Pentair Cartridge replacement time??

Just by way of comparison my cartridges lasted 10 seasons before I replaced them. I did so because the plastic bands holding them together started to break down. My filter has 4 cartridges and can go a whole season without cleaning. It sounds as if your filter has one cartridge. It's...

    Aquabot problems

Hey Ron Are you sure the drive motor isn't running ? When it's turned on and in the water, turn it on it's side and check to see if the dive gears are moving. If the gears are moving but not the tracks then the 2 drive belts need to be replaced. An easy and cheap fix, these drive belts are a...

    Filter issue

I don't understand why your cartridge filter is giving you problems. When I had a solid winter cover, the cartridges were only cleaned at the end of the season during closing. You can't get much easier than that. But that being said, my vote would be for you to go with a sand filter. I...

I would consider just wearing headphones and playing Whole Lotta Love while turning on the pump. :)

My pump is pretty loud. Is this normal?

That bubble can be caused by loose drain plugs, but the water squirting out of the lid is a sure sign that the gasket needs replacing, the cover isn't tight enough, or there is a crack somewhere. Try removing the cover and the gasket. Clean the gasket, the cover, and the housing really well...

In the market for a new cleaner

I second that opinion, get a robot. They work independently of the filter, suck up everything, and require very little maintenance. They just plain work. There are downsides to the robots though. One is that they are beaucoup bucks. Second is, that some of them still have bags that you need...

My pump is pretty loud. Is this normal?

A couple of years ago we had a new pool guy do our pool opening. The pump was so loud I figured I needed to replace it. Thanks to advice from this forum I checked the 2 drain plugs. The new pool guy forgot to snug these plugs and the noise was horrendous. So check the drain plugs, my...

    Ok here's a weird one

Same thing with my 2 Weimaraners. Once the pool is opened, and the water is clean, it becomes their never ending water bowl. Even though we put down fresh water throughout the day, when they are thirsty they'll whine to go outside and drink from the pool. They've been doing this since they...

    pine sap

I would try this product, it's meant to absorb oils from the water. If you place them in your skimmer baskets they'll absorb the black tar like substance. They can then be rinsed out...

    help. aquabot turbo wont run

I had something similar happen a few years ago, and it was a bad power supply. They repaired it for about 75 bucks and it was good to go for several more years. I sold it 2 years ago. If that's what the problem is, it would be worthwhile to have it fixed. If it's the motor, then, as Gary...

Recommendation for a Pool Builder on Long Island

Hey bigjoe. I had a pool put in by Swim-King in 2001. I had gotten quotes from Dunrite, South Shore pools, and one other that I can't remember right now. I went with Swim-King for several reasons. Being that the walls were 4 foot poured concrete it enabled the water level in the shallow end...

    Aquabot Viva Review

Hi echo. Yes, so far my Viva has been trouble-free. As you probably know, while the remote controls are fun to use on these machines, they are not really needed, as the unit cleans the whole pool pretty quickly. I've had good luck luck with robotic cleaners, ymmv. Good Luck Tom

    My Whisperflo no longer whispers!!

David, Last season my whisperflo pump got very loud too. In my case, the guys opening my pool did not tighten down the two drain plugs all the way. I hand tightened them as much as possible and this solved my noisy problem. Hope your solution is as easy. Tom
