    Proper liner lock usage.

Full length of the problem area or 1 inch pieces? Good thing I bought a 120 ft roll. Thanks!

    Proper liner lock usage.

Hi all, My inground liner has once again come loose in several places which I have managed to work back in place, along with a few blisters. I have ordered liner lock with the intention of fixing it once and for all by installing it all the way around but I saw one blurb somewhere that you can...

    Adjusting CYA

Good information to know. I will continue adding up to what the Pool Calculator figured and then check next weekend. This should be fine since it was based on a target of 40 and I'm thinking of headed to 60. Thanks again.

    Adjusting CYA

I'm needing to increase my CYA from <<20 to 40, maybe 60 since I get full sun all day. I've read that you should allow a week between adjustments to give the CYA time to dissolve. I'm adding the acid by putting the granular acid in a sock and placing one in the skimmer and the other in front...

    Sand in sight glass?

Just like the replies above I always see some sand then it clears during the rinse. After about 18 years of backwashing to the same area it looks like a small beach.

    Hazy water within 1 hour

I rinsed about 20 seconds. It looked clear in the sight glass but that's a small sample and may have not been "sufficient".

    Hazy water within 1 hour

Thanks for the reply. One thing to note is that no one had been swimming in it for a week. I'm thinking maybe I didn't rinse good enough after the backwash. I upped the bleach last night to probably a little short of the shock level and it seems to be a little better today. Still not crystal...

    Hazy water within 1 hour

Hi everybody. My pool water has been crystal clear until today. Here's the situation. I bought a robot cleaner last year which didn't work when I got it and now it's quit again. I'll post that in another forum. None the less, the pool has been sitting with several small piles of dirt in the...

Black Plastic for Winter Pool Cover

The covers I bought locally may not have been (and probably weren't) a very good quality. The smell is due to the stagnant water with all the leaves. I do use a cover pump but I give up on all the leaves and so the water doesn't get all removed when spring rains comes around. Then the warm...

Black Plastic for Winter Pool Cover

You brought up an interesting thought. 12-14 years ago I could get a 24X100' roll for about $40 and it seems like the basic woven mesh covers were going for about $80-$100. For whatever reason the covers I got would be leaking by the end of the season and by the end of year 2 I spent forever...

Black Plastic for Winter Pool Cover

Starting with a suggestion from a friend I have used black plastic with double water tubes as a winter pool cover for somewhere around 12-14 years. I started out using store bought pool covers but by year 2 they were shot. A 24'X100' roll gets me through 2 seasons and leaves enough for various...

Water Testing Instructions on One Page

I've been searching for this but didn't find an answer. On the Water Testing Instructions on One Page for a CYA test it has, "3) Shake about 30 sec; let stand 2-3 minutes; briefly shake again." However the TF-100 instructions say, "1. Fill the Red-capped CYA mixing bottle to the bottom line...

One more time for the Newbie?

Hey Matt, Last year I joined in on the BBB method after fighting issues for years. I kept "shocking" and my pool just stayed cloudy...couldn't see the bottom. Then I found this site and learned real quick that the required chlorine level is dependent on the CYA level. Because I had been...

    $600 this month..... HELP!!!

Last year I was where you are. I could barely see the bottom and kept shocking. Then I found this site and YEA! So you're at the right place for good, no, most excellent recommendations/advice. This year after opening I had clear water but was going through 4-5 182oz bottles a day with 0 FC...

    Testing bleach for chlorine concentration

Just in case you want to confirm you're getting 6% bleach or want to test the stuff you've had setting around, can a given amount of bleach be diluted with non-chlorinated water and then tested for its chlorine content? Is it even feasible since we're talking diluting 60,000 ppm to something...

Should minimum FC level be maintained while shocking?

I was seriously considering increasing my CYA. I opened a subject the other day Re:"Using Trichlor pucks to increase CYA" since I have 6 or so pucks left. Once I get through shocking, which I may be since my FC stayed constant overnight and I have 0 CCs, I may load the pucks in the chlorinator...

Should minimum FC level be maintained while shocking?

First, thanks for the help... I'm shocking because [1] I was loosing all my FC from evening to evening. The CCs remained at 0. [2] I had small amounts of green algea appearing around the returns, the skimmer basket opening, and on the liner seams. Latest information is...As of last night FC...

Should minimum FC level be maintained while shocking?

I've been shooting for about 16-18 knowing that based on my burn-up rate it will most likely be around 14 the next time I test. Based on that number I've been adding bleach to keep my FC at a level that should still be 14 by the next test interval. I went to about 20 yesterday because I had to...

Should minimum FC level be maintained while shocking?

I have about 35 CYA so my shock level is 14. I started shocking yesterday and it dropped 2 overnight and during the day I loose anywhere from 2 to about 4 per hour (its a hot sunny day here in east tenn). I read when shocking that we should check the FC every hour or so and bring it up to the...

Using Trichlor pucks to increase CYA

For the first time in years my CYA is headed for the low end...30-35. I had a post last year re: CYA levels for sunny pools where a reply was that I could go 60-80 for an all day sunny pool. The recommended level for vinyl using bleach is 30-50. Would it be worth it to increase CYA to say 70...

    High PH after adding bleach

Thanks for the help. Any thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations on SWGs?

    High PH after adding bleach

Yep, I was afraid that was the answer. The other problem is we'll be out of town this weekend and next so the FC would just go away while we're gone for a few days. As for keeping FC in the pool while you're away what do most folks do? Get a SWG, Liquidator, etc? I have a chlorinator on the...

    High PH after adding bleach

You're right, I ignored it and it went away...yea! I'm back to ~7.4. However I have 0 FC and 0 CC at the end of the day after being at 16 FC the previous evening. CYA is ~40-45 (best I can read it) and TA is 90. I'm trying to shock but leaving for work at 5:15 of a morning I just don't have...

    High PH after adding bleach

I'm in the process of shocking and I added 16 ppm FC, 3-182 oz jugs and 3-96 oz jugs of 6%. My PH was ~7.4 before adding the bleach and now it went to ~8.2 about an hour of so after adding the bleach. I did see another topic "Expected pH to rise after shocking...but it didn't" which kind of...

    Air Entrained Pool Vac Return

Hi everybody, hope you had a good winter. So it's a new season with a new problem. I'm still using the Arneson Pool Vac that came when the pool was built in 1993. I've replaced a couple set of shoes and one set of wings but it keeps on moving. However, over the last few seasons I've noticed...

WalMart Ultra Bleach - $2.54 now

Dollar General still has their 6% at $1.35 for the 96 oz. Take note though that some of their bleach was in a bottle that didn't have the % listed on the label. These bottles also looked a little different. I only bought the ones labeled 6%. Based on the previous post I'm thinking of going...

Problems with high TA and how to recognize them?

I was advised in another post to not worry about the TA being 140 unless it's causing a problem. The PH keeps creeping up to 7.6-7.7 (>7.5, <7.8) every 2-3 days and I lower it with acid to ~7.4. Last test for CH was 130. FC is being maintained in "Calculator" range for CYA of 80 with CC 0...

    Daily Sun Affects on FC

Has anyone plotted FC during the course of the day to see what kind of trend line it is from sun up to sunset? Also how about cloudy days versus bright sun? And one more, at the end of the day is there a "coast down" drop in FC at sunset? The reason is I've been doing my testing about 1 hr...
