Large Salt particles clogging up SWCG

So I added a gallon of acid yesterday per the pool calcualtor and my TA didn't even go down. Kept waiting for solution to turn red but it stayed green till the 21st drop... so 210. What gives? Its not hard to count drops, I redid the test to be sure... so I don't know. This is probably whats...

Yup, I was definitely mixing those 3 up. Just retested. chlorine has gone down from morning test cause pool has been open and SWCG has been off due to calcium buildup and need for an acid clean FC = 3.5 CC = 0

Large Salt particles clogging up SWCG

Ok, I retested, I was off on the PH this morning, FC = 3.5 CC = 0 PH = 8.1, TA= 210, CH = 150 salt = 2700 (guess, salt measurement tests are always off, I just add salt until my SWCG stops flashing at me) My CH has got to be higher right? That test is weird, I still see faint red at the top...

Large Salt particles clogging up SWCG

Also, where does one buy Borates? The LPS doesn't have them. The article on problem solving here basically says a drain and refill is usually the solution. I'm hoping thats not the case...

Large Salt particles clogging up SWCG

Yup fizzes up nice and yellow. Testing with a TF-100 and always thought it wasn't scaling cause my CH level was in line. Guess I'll try MA +Borates... any other suggestions?

Large Salt particles clogging up SWCG

Thanks for the help everyone. Ok, I know that my TA definitely gets high, and my PH does too from tiume to time go over 8 if im not on top of it. Which I try to be, but maybe not enough so. My question is, what should I do going forward? Just add a bunch of MA to lower the ph and TA really...

Large Salt particles clogging up SWCG

My CH is fine, well within range, last time tested was 220, my PH was 7.8 this morning. Yea, sometimes it gets over 8, but not often I'd say. And yes, it does drift up for sure. I usually target 7.6. See pool details below, if I did the signature thing right that is.

Large Salt particles clogging up SWCG

So I converted to salt just over a year ago, and ever since that conversion I've had issues with large salt particles collecting at bottom of pool, inside filter, and most annoyingly in my SWCG. These are large enough particles to where to can see them at night when the light is on coming out of...

    Big Cartridge Filter Advice

When you say that your admitting my mistake of too small of a filter, what do you mean exactly? What happened? I see you have a 26K gallon pool and are getting a 425 sq ft. filter, why so big? I need a new filter, I have a 42K gallon pool and was told by a pool guy that I could make do with a...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

Received my kit. That was quick. Here are some #s. I had limited time so couldn't do them all. Plus... my pool is clear as a bell now! It still has a green tinge... but it had this same tinge when I drained and refilled with city water 2 years ago. It goes away after less than a week of...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

Stopped by Leslie's today while running errands more out of curiosity than anything. FC is at 4. CYA is at zero. So I've had 5 different CYA tests. 2 from Leslie's, one at 70, then one at zero 3 days later. 3 at pool store, 2 were zero and one 40. What gives? Why can't these supposed experts...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

This is true. I had the CYA tested at 2 different pool stores. First was Leslies, 70 CYA. Second was local pool store that I thought did a great job with their testing. First test was zero, I said that can't be right. Second type of test was zero as well. Then she got 40 off a test strip...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

Interesting... I must have done something wrong... I even slammed it with a gallon more chlorine than the pool calculator called for and I didn't see a lick of difference at first. The only thing that I can think of is that the pool store's chlorine isn't as potent as they claim. They claim...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

Makes sense... too bad the test strips are so inaccurate and hard to read. I see why the test kits are such a hugely important tool. How long does this process take usually before you start seeing results? The sticky makes it seem like you'll start seeing it clear up during the course of a day...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

Ok. I ordered the TF-100, hope it gets here soon. Meanwhile I put in another 2 1/2 gallons of 13.5% liquid chlorine about an hour ago. The test strips are still 10 + in terms of FC. I think the pool is a little bit clearer. I can kinda see the main drain now, I couldn't at all before...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

I'm in Indiana. Yes, I'm eager... so I of course added 5 gallons of 13.5% about an hour ago. I just used a test strip... I know, its just a strip but its reading at 10+ still. I just brushed it as well. I'm not seeing any difference in color yet. Local pool store sells the Taylor K-2006 for...

I found a local test kit, she claims it tests for FAS-DPD... its a Bioguard brand. Anyone familair with it? Google is being inconclusive. I'm seeing 50 Test Tablets of DPD #1 in the item description when I google it.

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

Thanks for all the help, I'm amazed at how helpful this community is. Hmmmm.... with the water only at 54 degrees can my algae problem really get much worse while I wait a week or whatever for kit to arrive? Or should I just start slamming it and base everything off how not green the pool...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

That shock was put in last night already. Before the CH test today. Right now I have liquid bleach/shock bought at the pool store. They are saying they tested it a few days ago and its at 14% chlorine. Looks like online is my only option for the FAS-DPD kit which doesn't do me much good right...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

thanks for the welcome Calcium hardness is 210. I just added 3/4 gallon acid to bring ph down. How long should I wait before adding chlorine? I feel you on not trusting the pool store, but I tend to trust this pool store's calculations more than most. As they use both a computer to read the...

Algaecide and shock calculation help - green pool

Opened my pool last weekend and it was super clear. It turned green at some point this week, even though the water was only 52 degrees. It was too cold to run my SWCG and I didn't worry about it cause I thought water was too cold for algae to grow... gotta learn some lessons the hard way I...

    Leak? Typical Water level drop?

I'm sure this has been discussed, I did a search but couldn't find my answer... my apologies. Anyway, just purchased a house with a pool about 2 weeks ago. Loving it for the most part, but I can definitely see that it's gonna be alot of work, but I know it will be worth it. It's an older...
