    New pool build in AZ!

That's a brilliant tommelton! That makes way too much sense, don't worry about a problem until I actually have one! :-)

That's right...11G for the chain link,...but maybe the other material could be less? I'll see....

    New pool build in AZ!

That's the fence I was thinking of. I'm aware of the whole attractive nuisance thing. Been self-employed my whole life and liability is always the boogieman. I think just be generally safe and smart and CYA with massive insurance incl umbrella. I don't want to live for the negative possibilities....

    New pool build in AZ!

You noticed! Well no river but close. State Land, unbuildable. But I guess one of the current homes could transition to a kids home. I don't want to present an actual hazard to the neighborhood and I won't...but I will find a way to get this fence legit, and in a safe way. Maybe attach...

    New pool build in AZ!

Thanks fellas! I will avoid a separate wrought style pool fence like the plague, I think they just look awful. I seem to recall that people would put in a cheaper fence around the pool and just remove it after final inspection.... Oh, and there are zero kids with 10 miles. I kid you not. So this...

    New pool build in AZ!

Good thought! I just assumed that those would not work because they are not a permanent fixture..? I will have to call the county and see what they say...

    New pool build in AZ!

Fence question - in my county (Maricopa) they only allow a chain link fence if the opening is less than 1-1/4". Mine measures 2-1/4". This could be a deal killer since my property is large. Are there any work-arounds or variances for this....or an easy way to make the fence comply? It's...

    Rapid leak

If you can get a test plug into the actual drain pipe, that would rule that out (if it keeps losing). Then you'd know it's the HS valve or drain box itself....That's a lot of water gone somewhere, don't mess with this. As was said get some water on the plaster and find the leak, quick! Spend the...

Question on am I getting a line or am I being unreasonable

So....is it over that distance? If so just do the math......the contract is the law.

Question on am I getting a line or am I being unreasonable

As a long time builder , I think you're perfectly within your rights. Everything should be in the contract...which can only be increased (or decreased) by a Change Order. UNLESS the original contract states that the electrical price was an Allowance Item . So check the contract that you signed...

    New pool build in AZ!

You're right - but there are a whole lot of improperly installed pools out there....and not just piping. Coping/tile/decks/plaster/etc. I just want to minimize any possible issues while building.

    New pool build in AZ!

Great! We just moved in a couple weeks ago....love it here! But it do get a little toasty, don't it :-) Even if the water does get warmer, a dip will still cool ya off. And a pool is such a nice feature year-round for any backyard IMO, it's almost worth having just for the ambiance....

    New pool build in AZ!

Oh but it does. That's why I'm wary I think.....I owned a Leak Detection Franchise over in San Diego area for a while. Made a LOT of money finding and repairing cracked rigid PVC. I mean thousands of broken pipes, and up and down the West Coast, the number was 10s of thousands. Two main causes...

    New pool build in AZ!

I know it would cost a bit more, but much easier and way less chance of a pipe cracking down the road. I seem to remember doing this way back in the days when I was building pools....any thoughts on this?

    New pool build in AZ!

Yep! There is no reason not to run an extra 1-1/2 pipe to the pool. Costs almost nothing in extra labor since you can share a trench, and a valve is ~$100 so why not? Ya never know when an extra pipe under the ground might come in handy....

    New pool build in AZ!

Howdy back at ya! We are in Wittmann....I would love a list of subs if you would share.... I have a local excavator so far, that's all, but he's good at $2000 for the job. Maybe if we are doing our projects at similar times we can have some sort of respect from the subs? 🤣 I need...

    New pool build in AZ!

Hi and thanks for asking! Are you in the Phx area also? So we literally (well 2 weeks) just moved down here (West Valley) and are still getting un-boxed and settled in. And I am going to use proceeds from the sale of our other house up north of Prescott to build the pool. So not started as of...

    DE in pool

Depending on the age of the grids, sometimes it's just better/easier to replace them. And the manifold as well. In other words, a filter rebuild. Just start fresh and stop guessing.

    Just filled pool and leaking

See, right there is a problem. when I owned a leak detection company, it would take about 2-3 hours to do a complete detection procedure. Why is this guy coming back out 'several times a week' ?

    Need help organizing thoughts

I used to find that people with in-ground spas rarely used them....1) takes a lot of forethought, you need to start the heater and switch the valves well in advance of using, 2) It costs a small fortune. Better a self-contained spa that stays hot all the time and is ready for use whenever the...

    New construction

Huh, that kit said Free Chlorine so I just used it as an example. I agree the more accurate the better, but I don't see spending $200 on a test kit. I see Taylor makes one for $39 bucks that should suffice...but maybe I'll have to go higher. Sigh, I remember the old days when we carried the 2...

    New construction

Ok, I'll bite. I'm noticing that the modern pool industry is so complicated and overkill oriented. What's wrong with a basic test kit like this: Amazon.com Back in the day, I used to own a really large service company that maintained hundreds of pools, even many commercial pools, in top notch...

Water feature tile not even, lippage

That looks like Crud. I've installed tile on hundreds of pools over the years. Now if the manufacture/tile seller says that the tile is meant to be like that, then that's the way it is. I doubt it's installer error, frankly, I think it's the tile itself. Your choice if you want to let it go......

Inground DIY build - parallelism tolerances?

It's ok, but I'd make it right myself, I have those kind of eyes that notice a out-of-plumb building a mile away......the only thing it'll screw up is your coping/deck...

    Just filled pool and leaking

1/4" a day is not normal. That's almost 2" a week. You have a leak. Hard to see your skimmer throat because of the black grout (which is incredibly sloppy, I'd suspect the builder just because he allowed this mess. Check that out carefully. The next step is to pressure test the plumbing, and if...

    New pool build in AZ!

I am learning quickly that I should open my mind and learn the new stuff...there's some cool stuff out there.! And BTW, I started my pool service business in 1977 when I was in my early 20's...yikes time flies! I am absolutely positive that I want to vacuum my own pool. I will do it early in...

    Plumbing advice

Not much point in increasing to 2" but leaving an underground section of 1-1/2" to create a restriction. If you want to increase the flow, dig to where they originally reduced from 2" to 1-1/2" and increase the size there. My .02
