    Low pH and TA

I don't recall having to add many more like that, maybe 1 additional drop but I will do another test today. The reagent is kind of old too but I think I have some newer reagent I can try as well. Not sure so I will test that also.

    Low pH and TA

I was just playing around in PoolMath and it says to bring TA up to 50, requires 7lbs of baking soda. It almost doubles to 12lbs for 60, does that sound right?

    Low pH and TA

Okay will do, thanks! That's true but they do have a pool-specific product and there are a handful of posts about folks using it in their pool. Thought it might be worth trying out but maybe not.

    Low pH and TA

Howdy TFP, I am looking for advice on the attached test results. I opened my pool recently and my pH is 7.2 and TA is 30. Apparently the last time I measured TA was last summer and it was 50 at the time so has come down some. TFP recommends a TA of at least 50 so I am wondering if I should go...

    New Poolmath Look?

Anyone else having an issue where when they add chemicals, the app often changes what you inputted when it saves the record? Here I added 68oz of 12.5% per the app recommendations and it saved it as 17oz of 10%. If you click on the record, it shows 17oz of 12.5%. Much of the time the record will...

    Motor recommendation

I reached out to Mike at Val Pak and he said to return the 3hp diffuser and order the lower rated one. He didn't elaborate as to why.

    Motor recommendation

Just thought about this, if I keep the higher rated diffuser, should I get the higher rated impeller also? I got the 2hp version but there is a 3hp one also.

    Motor recommendation

Howdy, I am revisiting this thread as I just bought that recommended Nidec motor and impeller. In an effort to make swapping out the old motor with this new one as quick and seamless as possible, I decided to build the motor end completely, from the impeller to the seal plate and all of the...

    Sand from filter/return jets?

Lol funny enough I ordered these mesh strainers earlier today. May still not be fine enough though, I didn’t think of using nylon. Good idea, thanks. I’ll try and find some. https://a.co/d/0dutrLBF

    Sand from filter/return jets?

Ah I should clarify I don’t have a SWCG. I had been reading up on the potential benefits of adding salt and borates so started tracking both. Added boric acid this past week. Was considering bringing salt levels up to 2000ppm next to see if I would notice a difference in water feel. No steps...

    Sand from filter/return jets?

I was thinking maybe dead algae from that old vacuum session I mentioned where I forced a bunch of dead algae through the filter. This has been an ongoing issue since then and that was last season before I closed, not long after I bought this property. I chalked it up to dirt/pollen for a while...

    Sand from filter/return jets?

I’m definitely going to have to do some more testing. I dove down yesterday before I put the vacuum in and the stuff was dark green and would cloud up and disperse before I could get it between my fingers suggesting it is dead algae? So now I’m thinking the tiny bit of sand that my vacuum picks...

    Sand from filter/return jets?

That’s what I thought initially but it seems like every time I put a sock over the return jets, it stops. And yet there’s nothing in the sock, which doesn’t make sense so maybe it’s just coincidence that when I take it off, the stuff seems to reappear on the bottom. I’ll have to do some more...

    Sand from filter/return jets?

Thanks @Texas Splash. I only have two return jets and had socks over both of them for my most recent test. That’s what I was afraid of though, not looking forward to that.

    Sand from filter/return jets?

Howdy, I am having a difficult time fully verifying that this is sand coming from my return jets. It is definitely sand that I pick up in my vacuum however when I put a skimmer sock over my return jets, somehow it never gets caught in it. They’re always clean when I take them off. And yet, as...

    New Poolmath Look?

I updated last night and I don’t think I’m a fan of the visual changes. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is but I think it’s the extra text. I liked the acronyms from before instead of everything being spelled out. Minor, personal issue as that is obviously very subjective. Some of the...

    Motor/pump question

Sounds like a plan. I won’t be doing the SWCG for a while but that sounds like the way to go when the time comes. Appreciate the guidance.

    Motor/pump question

The breaker should be changed? It is GFCI. Ah yeah that’s true it did have a switch. I think it still worked fine, it just wasn’t needed since this pump has a built in timer/scheduling function.

    Motor/pump question

Main panel, does appear to be a GFCI breaker.

    Motor/pump question

Good info, thanks Herman! Regarding removing the switch, isn’t there an electrical code about having an emergency cutoff switch? I think that’s why my electrician added that, wasn’t there before. I’ve just been using it as a lazy shortcut to cut power when needed. My old single speed was wired...
