Update on DIY build in TN (More Pics/Questions)

Thanks guys. Its funny how it works when you diy and it takes you a couple of years to get to this point. You don't see the changes happening until you look back at pics. I still have a ways to go, but with more advice and ideas from TFP I'll get there.

    DIY fence or contract out?

Ok. I skimmed over some of the replies so sorry if I repeat anything. I am finishing up 260 lf w/ 3 gates of aluminum fencing this weekend. You can definitely do, but here are some tips. 1. You have to dig as you go, don't try to pull strings and dig all the holes first. The panels slide into...

    Any irrigation experts in here?

By the way, I'd run 1" PVC, not 3/4". Waaay more water volume for not much more $.

    Any irrigation experts in here?

I recently owned and operated a lscape and irrigation company and I have installed dozens of irrigation systems from 2 zones to 32 zones, although I am still probably not the most experienced on this site. I'll give you my two cents though. You need to know how many gal per min of volume you...

    NG Heater Indoors?

Yes I noticed a kit that is available from each manufacturer to vent them. The thing is, those qhalified HVAC guys are very pricey. I got a quote to install ductless AC in pool house for 5,200.00, but ended up doing myself for 1,700.00. Any ideas on a fair price for professional installation?

    NG Heater Indoors?

I dont really know yet. I have NG available. I figured that would be more efficient than heat pump. I just like the water near 90 deg and it takes a while here in TN for it to get there. BTW it is a 20x40 IG a bit over 30K gallons. I wish I could do solar, but I know nothing about those. Any...

    NG Heater Indoors?

Since all my other equipment is indoors, I'd like to place my heater indoors as well. As you can see, I pre-plumbed tees for installing. I have not purchased one yet, so I don't know if it will even fit. I just hoped to get a professional opinion on the practicality, safety, etc. Does anyone have...

    About to begin a self-install..Questions

I used a formula based on the 2' radius with a 1" overhang gave me a 23" inside radius and a 35" outside radius due to the stones being 12" wide. Then you have to throw in the number of pieces of the pie you want to use. I'll try to dig up the formula for you later tonight. I don't want to get...

Update on DIY build in TN (More Pics/Questions)

Thanks. I learned a few tricks with the pavers the hard way. So PM me if interested in a few tips. I am sure you have a plan though. Good luck and get a big bottle of ibuprofen-your back will need it on those pavers. Looking forward to the pics.

    About to begin a self-install..Questions

Sorry Joallen001. This is the only pic I could find on the coping. As you can see, after doing the math on the radius, I used cardboard templates to make sure on the fit before I cut the coping stones. I used modified thinset to attach to the concrete footer that I formed and poured. PM me if...

Update on DIY build in TN (More Pics/Questions)

Not a whole lot of changes outside. I did get the deep-end planters finished and the sheer decents connected. They are in each corner. I will post some pics of pool house interior soon. BTW the yellow pipe in the planter is for a fire bowl and the pvc is for irrigation. Planning to keep open all...

    Identify PVC union manufacturer?

Could be "American Pipe" from most Lowes stores. Ironic thing is they're made in China.

Need help with plumbing layout. DIY build about to begin!

Re: Need help with plumbing layout. DIY build about to begin I didnt install it. My thought was to keep prime on the pump when turned off or cleaning the strainer basket and what not. It hasn't been an issue without it, plus I didnt really have room for it. I will install one whenever I get...

Need help with plumbing layout. DIY build about to begin!

Re: Need help with plumbing layout. DIY build about to begin I'm not sure if this helps much, but this is how I plumbed mine. As you can see, the finished product ended up a bit different than the design, but sketching it out will help you get a better grasp on valve placement, union placement...

Update on DIY build in TN (More Pics/Questions)

Thanks. Unfortunately its still a work in progress. I had to slow down and spend some time with the family. I severely underestimated how long the pool house would take, but I am almost ready for drywall. I'll try to post some new pics soon. BTW if u have the money, the way to do it is to watch...

Effects of dead animals in skimmer-yuck

So yesterday I found a huge dead mole in the skimmer. I thought it was a rat at first. I clean it out every day or so thank goodness but my guess is it had been there 18-24 hrs. I have probably found over a dozen mice, lots of frogs, salamanders, etc. before, but this was the largest so far...

DIY IG rehab, cement walls, vinyl liner - Pool Filled!!

I agree. Great job. Are you using screed rails for the paver sand or are you hand-troweling. Galvanized electrical conduit works great for the rails. Also, I guessed you noticed how much the brick settled once the sand underneath dried and the bricks had any weight put on them. Mine settled...

What level of FC does it become unsafe to swim?

Ok thanks. I think I narrowly avoided an algae bloom and was considering another short shock, but I didn't want to keep everyone out for over a week. Is it worth it in this situation to just do a "mini-shock" without going all the way to shock level and holding until passing the ONCLT? Maybe...

What level of FC does it become unsafe to swim?

So I was wondering on the tail end of a shock process when you can safely swim? What are the effects of swimming in higher than normal FC levels?

DIY IG rehab, cement walls, vinyl liner - Pool Filled!!

Yeah, I stripped one return screw and was able to find what I needed at a local Fastenal store. Good luck. I think you can use food coloring near a leak and it will point out the exact spot.

DIY IG rehab, cement walls, vinyl liner - Pool Filled!!

I don't know anything about finding leaks, but have you considered going back and torqueing down all your screws on steps, skimmers, returns just to make sure everything is snug. I know I went back after a several days and was able to get another quarter turn on some of mine.

DIY IG rehab, cement walls, vinyl liner - Pool Filled!!

Re: DIY inground rehab, vinyl liner, cement walls - Liner Su Looking good. I'm surprised how fast your progress has been. I know you must be about worn out but it looks like it has been worth it. Something tells me that you'll be pulling and reinstalling all the pavers. Then that'll mean new...

DIY IG rehab, cement walls, vinyl liner - Pool Filled!!

Re: DIY inground rehab, vinyl liner over poured cement walls I don't know if its in your budget, but renting a gas powered saw with a 14" diamond blade for half a day would probably cut it in about 15 minutes and go all the way thru with one cut. My guess would be 60-70 bucks but save a lot of...

    Concrete Decking Before Liner?

Yes. One tip though. Order the concrete with the smallest stone possible because you'll need to pour it flush with the top of the liner track and large stone get in the way in that thin spot on top of track.
