    “True” colour of the plaster?

Owned a pool for a year - bought a house with a pool from 1967. I had it cared for by a pool guy until now, the pool was not clean so I decided to just do it myself. Just completed a SLAM, took me a week but I made it. Now everything looks really clear and you can see the plaster better than...

Got it. Thank you. I could remove and clean it but I should probably do it with something strong enough that kills any organics, like bleach or something. With just water, if the cover was “infected” from the pool situation I had a week ago, that probably would not cut it.

Completed it. Thank you! Zero loss overnight Crystal clear for days now And 0 CC I have a couple of questions now about: Solar cover - before I let the chlorine drop, should I submerge the cover for a couple of hours or overnight to kill anything that is on it? Overall balance - is it now...

Lost only 1 overnight. Topped it up to 20. And then down to 17 six hours later. Could it be losing that due to normal conditions? Its 85 and sunny

Woke up to 16. Lost 4ppm in 11 hours overnight. Now I see what you mean by crystal clear. No CC. There is a smell but it’s different than the previous days. It is more like bleach rather than chloramines. Any ideas what it could be?

Lost 5ppm overnight, just topped back up to 20. Seems like a good result considering I opened the light yesterday and was so dirty

Ha thanks. How should I think about the really small microparticles that are just floating around. Will the filter pick those up or is there some sort of trick to push them to floor so they can be vacuumed? I clean the filter yesterday, it was really brown despite being only 3 weeks old...

It looks absolutely disgusting…anything specific to do other than leaving it open and keep the light in the pool floating so it gets chlorine?

Will try to do the light today. First I have to find the breaker in the panel and that’s a job. I left it last night at 21 FC Woke up to 16. So progress from previous day when I lost 9PPM overnight, but probably just a fluke. Will find out tomorrow. Topped it up to 20 again. And brushed like...

Tested this morning. Less than 0.5 CC BUT…FC went down from 20 to 11 overnight so massive drop. I am sure there is an explanation, perhaps CC takes a while to show up in tests, I do not know. You tell me. I will not stop the process obviously, I am just curious about how this all works

The pool is from 1967. I have owned the home for a year. I do not know if light was built with it or anything about it or the pool, to be honest. I will try to take a picture tomorrow

Thanks. No ladder just steps. What do you mean by removable lights? It is fully embedded into concrete/plaster. I guess there is a cover and that could be removed (i assume so in the event the bulb goes bad) but i would have to drain half the water out of the pool to open it, right?

Increased it to 20 per feedback. Yes to waist and outdoors. And it is raining now, quite a lot, which will obviously reduce ppm on FC but also CYA. Can I add CYA in the middle of the process, if need be?

Yes, makes sense. I ended up getting the kit today so I started the process. Added chlorine and just tested 2 hours later. Got to 18 FC and it looked like 1 to 1.5 of CC. I brushed the whole pool beforehand. My CYA was somewhere in between 40-50 so I think I got the FC number right. Should I...

New Pool Owner looking for Help

Excellent, thank you. One additional question, I have a pool cover that is off, rolled up right now. Presumably it has organics/algae/whatever on it too. Should I dump it into the pool as I SLAM it? Otherwise, I will go through the whole process, all three criteria passed post SLAMing and then...

New Pool Owner looking for Help

Hi - it is between 0 and 1 the FC after 10 hours - just tested. So the question is do I keep on trying to get to 8ppm to do the OCLT with the better test kit or is it never going to happen and I would be wasting chlorine? I lost a lot more than 1ppm overnight. If ok to proceed without it...

Thanks for the words on your last post. It all seemed so easy initially. Anyways, I put 1 gallon and 1 quart of 10% liquid chlorine. PH was at 7.4 and CYA at 60. It smelled like chloramines within 20 minutes and I tested after an hour (7pm) - came back with 3-6 FC . Still waiting for the TF 100...

thank you so much. I added some details, the ones I know, to my profile. I am using the 2006 but I believe I got the wrong one. Did not get the one with the high chlorine ppm. Will get that soon. I will try to get the FC to 8ppm. It calculated roughly 1.5 gallons of liquid chlorine, but is...

Moved from HERE Hi I was hoping to get some advice on the following. I have had a pool for a year being cared for by a weekly pool guy and I have decided to part ways with him. I was going to the pool store to get measurements but I feel like they are not very reliable. Yesterday they told me...
