My gunite was shot yesterday. When I went out to water it this morning, I saw some cracks. I'm not sure if they're significant or not. This is the largest one, it's about 2' long in the deep end. Any advice welcome.

The gunite guys fixed it. My only problem now is that I am having buyer's remorse that I built the pool too small to try to have some yard left. The pool is 15'x30', but I also got a spa in the pool, which really cut into the size of it in a way I didn't really anticipate. :(

At the very least I'm gonna be right there in their business when the gunite crew arrives to talk it over with them. I can tell my builder is annoyed that I'm questioning him, but he'll just have to deal with it.

Grr. The unit only lasted 12 months, and it was turned off for the vast majority of that time. I did run it 24/7 for several weeks while clearing my pool of algae, but didn't expect that to kill it. Was that excessive?

I was able to remove a small amount of debris from the impeller area, but it was no help with the noise. Unfortunately one of the screw/nuts that holds the housing over the impeller area is impossible to remove. It just gets stuck before the bolt comes free from the nut, and I'm stripping it...

There's a fixed plastic piece there that won't allow even a pinky through. But it does sound like the impeller is fouled somehow.

Otherwise mercury will accumulate in the pool. Is there any credibility to this?

The cloudiness did not seem to be clearing at any sort of noticeable rate, so I decided to take a peek inside my sand filter. I opened it up, and put a garden hose down in the sand and swished it around down under the sand. An astounding amount of material came out of the sand! I had to swish...
