Yes I use skimmer socks! Thanks for the response and I will leave the filter on and be sure to throw in my robot vacuum once the job is done to help the filter by picking up some of the debris.

    new fencing around pool

Hello everyone, I hope all is well. I am going to be replacing a pvc style white picket fence around my pool to a new black aluminum style pool which will I hope will look a lot nicer! In preparation of the new fence being installed I am assuming new concreate will be poured to hold up the new...

    D.E. or dead algae

Hello everyone, Just an update here. I ran AA treatment to get some rust stains out of my liner and in the process couldn't shock and so DE needed to be replaced in the filter due to pressure building up. I notice the gray powder is back and my return jets turn cloudy immediately after adding...

    D.E. or dead algae

Hey everyone, just an update on my pool. Grayish DE looking stuff is now gone. I switched my top manifold back to the original version however could not find any cracks or damage in the new one I had previously put on. The only difference I noticed was the air relief tube on the new manifold...

    D.E. or dead algae

Hey thanks for letting me know about this. To be honest I'm not sure of the age but probably original (2008) the stickers are very faded and is very janky and occasionally can see water between the crevasses of the different positions. Not sure if that is normal or not. I've near replaced...

    Stains on liner

Hello everyone, My FC levels are near 0 so am preparing to run an absorbing acid treatment. I know I will need to add a sequestering agent to the pool afterwords. My local pool store sells Sequa-sol and Super Sequa-sol but I saw jacks magic pink stuff in the sequestering page here on TFP...

    D.E. or dead algae

Thanks for letting me know. I just replaced my top manifold to the original/older version I had in to see if that was the issue and perhaps I just received a defective unit when I bought it. Fingers crossed I won’t need a new filter but sand is definitely one I’d consider.

    D.E. or dead algae

I live on an acre with a lot of trees and a mesh safety cover. Pool is only open from May-September for me in NJ. Do you know if cartridge filters have any issues trapping algae? To my understanding that was the selling point of DE filters.

    D.E. or dead algae

Guys be honest, are DE Filters really worth it? They are such a pain in the rear end I feel like I want to just throw my hand up and go sand and be done with it.

    D.E. or dead algae

Yes I opened the filter tonight and checked all the grids they all look to be in good shape. I put the filter back together and is still leaking DE back into the pool. I did not have this issue prior to opening it the first time last weekend. The only thing I replaced which I suppose didn't need...

    D.E. or dead algae

I would say yes it is pasty. You know I’m concerned I may have a tear in a grid which would be a bummer since I just replaced the grids last year. We had the coping repainted 2 weeks ago and I have all these little rust stains on the liner and am finding pieces of steel brush bristles in my...

    D.E. or dead algae

Hello everyone, I hope all is well. Still no test results but just wanted to share a photo of the grayish matter that my vacuum was able to pick up in case this looks familiar to anyone and gives a better indication on if you think it’s DE or dead algae. Thanks!

    Stains on liner

Just an update, I have yet to try the tri-chlor tab but again now think its a metal stain because when I was cleaning out my vacuum filter I noticed these small squiggly metal pieces that I would liken to the the bristles you'd find on a wire brush or wire wheel. I'm guessing these were used...

    D.E. or dead algae

Its a bit too smokey over here for me to want to do the testing tonight and OCLT test tomorrow morning but will do so as soon as things get a little better and keep you posted!

    D.E. or dead algae

I only use Pool Math to determine how much a chemical I should be added but don't save the log. I thought I need a special subscription to do so but appears that's not the case. I will start logging all test results there.

    D.E. or dead algae

Thanks for the responses here and letting me know how to test it! I think what I will do is add chlorine tomorrow and then do the OCLT Thursday morning. It is dark and late here on the East Coast. Just enabled sharing with TFP. I really hope its just dead algae. I had a leak at my filter clamp...

    D.E. or dead algae

Yes I have pool math. I just added about 2lbs of CYA yesterday via the skimmer sock method in front of the return jet. It was my understanding that CYA levels won't read properly for a few days after so I did not bother to test it tonight. It was below 30 before yesterday however. I can run a...

    D.E. or dead algae

FC tested at 2.4ppm and CC 0.2, PH was at 7.6. I dumped 1 gallon of liquid shock in last night around 7:30PM EST and tested the water today around 7 PM EST.

    D.E. or dead algae

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. Everyday I am noticing this grayish looking stuff in various spots settled on the floor of my pool. I just cleaned off my D.E. Filter grids and replaced the top manifold and don’t think there were any issues but now am worried I may have a D.E. Leak...

    Stains on liner

Thank you for your response! I will definitely try adding more chlorine, I use liquid but do have some pucks left over from last year and can try your suggestion. The more I think about it, pool coping is generally made of aluminum which is non-ferrous and doesn't rust so I am hoping they are...

    Stains on liner

Hello everyone, I hope all is well. Discovering this forum last summer after owning a pool for now 5 years has been invaluable. I learned so much from this forum and own a Taylor test kit because of recommendations here which has allowed me for the first time this year to test my pool water at...
