    Pebbletec choice/desperate

That's smart visiting pools. Our PB arranged for us to see at least 3 pools in our original choice, Midnight Blue, from recent builds. He'd just call the owner and they were happen to let us in. Not one of those pools looked like the other in water color. What mattered most was amount of...

Ice maker recommedations (full-size or countertop)

That's the loaded question! We have been through many. We have bought a lot on Amazon, mostly odd names and whatever Sam's is carrying at the moment. But, also name brands like Frigidaire. We are currently on a GE, which we would return due to the awful noise it can make at times, but it is...

Ice maker recommedations (full-size or countertop)

We have been through many, and I mean many, countertops over the years at home and office. Still keep one at both locations at all times. I don't care what brand you get, how much "quality" you pay for, about 1 year is the life of these things, like clockwork. We just factor that as cost of...

    Pentair Mastertemp 400HD

Yes, there's a conversion kit or propane ready in the 400 series. I remember there was a little mix-up in my quote right at us finalizing the deal where the conversion kit was first not known by them to be needed, then, was going to cost an additional $700???? Since propane was well known to...

Help identifying mystery in-ground spa jets with eyeball circa 2003

Yes, Aquastar. Same ones put in 2 years ago in my pool and in spa. The fitting/housing is standard 1.5", and same was used for my Microbrite lights.

Plaster dust or bad plaster job?

Especially in the blues, I've never seen complete uniformity. As the dye fades in over time, you'll find a bit less mottling look, and, you will find shadowing is much of it, where in full direct sun it looks almost uniform. It's just a cement product with dye, varied stone colors, uneven...

Plaster dust or bad plaster job?

Blotchy? That actually looks quite normal and good for a dark plaster. Color variations, mild mottling, is considered part of it. All the manufacturers disclaim this in their warranty, quartzscapes is same: 5. Application, exposure and start up techniques will result in unique variations...

Naive - Critique my sunshelf /spa / pool design- how can I make a better use for the space?

I know sunshelfs are "a thing", and everyone focuses on them during build, but in the end, they ain't "all that". We did the whole thing - chairs here, bubblers there!!! But, given it only gets used as a big step to the pool, at least mine and everyone else's I've ever seen as used, I'd never...

Pentair Microbrites - no more red?

Thanks! Sad part is that I bet over the 2 years I don't have more than 10 hours total on these lights. Maybe if they had come in yellow bug light they would have had more :)

Pentair Microbrites - no more red?

2nd year on mine, and as expected from reading here I now have one only spitting out white. Truth be, I don't use them due to living on lake and year round bug of some kind fills immediately, but guess they really are short-term investment bulbs, especially being LED this ain't right!

Newb OB with BYOP in Buckeye AZ - Short vacation pH and FC question

Best I can measure on my 9" deep ledge, the center of my microbrite is 9.5" below top of beam with a mere .25" below it to spare. The face of light is about 2".

Spa leaking water when Blower is on

How high up does it start leaking? Jets are a bit low v. outside wall elevation. Are you sure the excess agitation is not pushing water slosh to some gapping between coping and beam?

Acid washed glass iridescent pool tile

The glass wouldn't have dulled, it just glass. But, the iridescent and color is with the backing showing through. Do you know the brand and if it was pool rated glass tile?

Newb OB with BYOP in Buckeye AZ - Short vacation pH and FC question

Normally, those throughs should be securely wire tied to rebar. When they shoot the gunite, it's heavy and high pressure and can crack plumbing further up.

    Liquid Chlorine

Happens every year. Just went through this yesterday. Stopped by Walmart on way home and as soon as I saw the shelving rearranged, knew I was too late! They don't set back up for and stock the chlorine again till about May or June. It's Home Depot now for as long as they keep it but is a...

Champagne Spa water exchange in POOL mode

When you shut off that 50/50 makeup you will be able to lower that pump speed considerably. Leaving it open kinda defeats the purpose of scheduled spillovers.

Champagne Spa water exchange in POOL mode

I guess if you wanted to get specific, down to an actual "full turn" for your setup, you could play by using the service buttons on the panel and push the drain button to drain spa back to pool and then reverse that by pushing fill button, timing this at a specific rpm. Note, your service...

    Issues with Spa losing water

Best advice? If no visible sign of water that can be investigated without doing any damage to decking or spa, call a leak detection company. They can pinpoint to great accuracy to a specific fitting or pipe. Been there already with a tiny crack in one spa jet fitting, and without the...

    Issues with Spa losing water

Check your pool level before shutting pump off. If the water level in pool rises some after spa leaks down, you have a check valve issue. If the pool level drops some after the pump comes back on and the water fill has to replace, you have a leak in your spa.

Champagne Spa water exchange in POOL mode

The manual valve between pool return and spa return is currently set 50/50 between both. That's your spa makeup line. Option 1 is to turn that handle clockwise some, closing more of pool return and sending more water to spa returns. That will increase spa overflow at any speed. For a given...

Marble pavers - sand or no sand?

I always buy the polymeric sand from Home Depot, EZ Sand. When you wet it, it just turns rubbery. It never hardens, but is more just a sticky mass. Dry sticky mass is more descriptive. I'm not sure of other makes and models of poly though.

Champagne Spa water exchange in POOL mode

Pictures of your equipment pad and plumbing set you will help, so post if can. It's not really a pump speed issue. Your return water is split between pool and spa at valving at your pad. The amount going to spa returns can be adjusted from 100% of all water return to -0-%. There's a couple...

Marble pavers - sand or no sand?

Flakes and chips is not how I would describe polymeric sand. It's just sand with a binder that makes is sticky, kinda rubbery, more like a mud pack if it never dried out. At all times it can be washed or brushed out, hence it doesn't last all that long but my experience it lasts a bit longer...

    Contracting Soil - Drought

I'm near you, south a bit. For the home slab, I've always been a firm believer in flower beds and mulch and sprinkler/soakers around as much of house as possible. That maintains a fairly stable moisture level through all seasons. This drought is one of the tough ones. Not the toughest, but...

Spa draining water to pool and can’t fill spa from pool water

Yes, pad pics would help but sounds like it's not checking water on the spa returns. Very interesting design. Normally, that elevated spa would fit building code same as a patio, needing at least 36" from where someone could stand to top edge to not require a railing. Of course, you do have...
