    Help for cloudy pool

Are you noticing any water loss in your pool? Personally I’d add 3# granular stabilizer to the skimmer basket and place 3-3” chlorine tabs in a floating dispenser. This should help clear your pool gradually.

How do the pros do it?

Well I must say you guys all had pool techs that were way below par. I do not do any of what you are saying above. Test strips?! Pucks in the skimmer? ‘Dump and Pray’? I guess I am an anomaly. I do none of the above. It comes down to proper training and taking the time to do the job...

    Adding Muriatic

Yes I am a pool tech. I treat 20-25 pools daily. This is the only reason I worry about my back, ankles, and knees. Lol

    Adding Muriatic

Let me know how that gallon of muriatic acid smells on a dank, humid morning pouring it at arms length right above water level. I bet after the 20th pool you’re going to be wanting to submerge it into a 5 gallon bucket. Plus your back, knees, and ankles are going to be screaming after weeks of...

    Adding Muriatic

This is how I pour into a 5 gallon bucket. I fill the bucket half with water and then submerge to bottle inverted into the bucket squeezing the acid into the water. And yeah I then rinse the empty bottle in the pool so no acid reside stains the pavers or truck bed.

General Question about Salt and Chlorine Levels

Salt levels should not increase with rain. If anything they may slightly decrease if you had over flow which we have quite often during the summer months in FL. Place your salt cell in 24 hour boost mode to help your chlorine levels return to normal.

    Adding Muriatic

I have to disagree. I always dilute into a 5 gallon jug. Reason being less chance of the acid splashing back onto you or the lanai. Also the vapor can actually stain railings if the wind is blowing that way. I have scars on both feet from acid back splashing onto me while pouring directly into...

What is the purpose of pouring the chlorine so slowly in front of a jet(ago)?

I can 100% guarantee nobody in the pool service industry stirs their liquid chlorine into a pool. I walk the perimeter of one side while pouring and then mix my muriatic acid in a 5 gallon bucket and pour down the other(if needed).

Who has opened their own pool cleaning business?

You guys are awesome! Tons of great advice and I appreciate it. Sorry if I forget some of the responses but here is what I remember. I ran several businesses up north prior to moving south 2 years ago. So I have the accounting provisions already in place. 10 minutes is an honest estimate to...

Who has opened their own pool cleaning business?

Here is the way I break it down. Current average wage is $20 for a technician. I live in an area of snowbirds/older residents. I’d be willing to say 50% of the houses use a pool company. Average rates begin around $99 per month with the norm being $150. Time spent should be chem test- 10...

Who has opened their own pool cleaning business?

I’ve been cleaning pools for almost a year, and friends have been saying I should start my own pool cleaning business. I have owned and successfully run several businesses in the past. But when I started this job, it was my semi-retirement job. It has perfect hours, no stress, working outside...

Alkalinity- how low is too low?

This is my understanding also. After reading several articles online it appeared the alkalinity is mainly just a buffer to help stabilize the ph. If the ph is remaining steady around 7.6, don’t mess with the alkalinity. Just confirming if this is true.

Alkalinity- how low is too low?

So I have been maintaining 75 customers’ pools for almost a year now and am always battling high ph. Especially with salt cell systems. One thing I have observed is that when keeping a lower alkalinity (50-70) my ph remains a steady 7.2 - 7.8. In the past this alkalinity would cause me to add...

    Pool tech from South Florida.

Good morning. I have been working as a pool technician for almost 1 year now and have learned an immense amount of knowledge during this time. One thing I have learned is everyone maintains their pools differently. So any advice I have been given is always biased based upon that technicians...
