    Plumbing disconnected

I'm also wondering about three other hypothetical scenarios that may have led to the incident. Water level was too low and pump was sucking too much air. Someone (mosquito guy) accidentally bumped into the pipe. Multiport valve's position was adjusted (e.g. for backwashing) while the pump was...

I was able to obtain a photo of the multiport valve on the filter. Just another data point that may help.

    Plumbing disconnected

Hi all, I had an emergency today. The pipe running from the pump to the filter dislodged itself while the pool pump was running (see attached photos). I was not at home since I had just moved out this past Saturday (7/16), so the home was vacant (tenant hasn’t moved in yet). Luckily, my...

    Water Level Issue

The spa doesn't overflow in pool mode, so I guess that means I'll need to add a new check valve. Does that seem feasible with my setup? Looks a bit tight. I attached the photo of my equipment pad again for convenience.

    Water Level Issue

I've actually been keeping the spa return completely closed as a temporary solution to this problem. In the photo, it indicates otherwise, but it was only for yesterday to clean out the spa a bit. When it's closed, the water drains ever so slightly. I guess that could be evaporation or something...

    Water Level Issue

The water level in the spa always stops just below the return jets. I have attached a photo of the equipment pad. The return plumbing is on the bottom-left corner of the photo. The pipe going to the left is the return for the spa. The pipe going to the right is the return for the pool.

    Water Level Issue

I am experiencing issues with my pool's water levels. My pool has a spa built in with a spillover. I also have my pool pump running for five hours a day. When the pool pump is running and the water level in the pool is ideal, everything is good. When the pool pump turns off, issues start...

    Just opened up my pool

I was out of town for Memorial weekend, but my attention is back on the pool. pH is at 7.5 now. I may have added more than 3 lbs. I hope that's okay. TA is at 70. I also added enough CYA to bring it up to 40. I read that I need to wait a few days before re-testing the CYA, so I'll probably...

    Just opened up my pool

Borax is arriving tomorrow, so I'll give that a go then. Are you saying that the test ends once it goes from Barbie pink to very bright?

    Just opened up my pool

I added more baking soda today and re-tested the TA twice after about an hour or so. TA measurement #1: 70 TA measurement #2: 60 Is there anything I should be aware of if the measurements were 1 drop apart, or can we just average the two and say TA is 65? I also measured the pH. For the...

    Just opened up my pool

Understood, I didn't have much baking soda actually, so I got more. It'll be arriving tomorrow (Wednesday). Do I just scatter the baking soda in from of a return?

    Just opened up my pool

    - CYA reagent will arrive in a few days - Where do tabs normally go? - Yes, I used the proper reagent for the pH test. Now that you mention it, the pool guy said that the pH was 8, so he used acid to lower it. However, I don't know how much acid he used.

    Just opened up my pool

Hi there, A pool company just opened up my pool. FC: 1.5 CC: 0.5 PH: Unable to determine (more info below) TA: 50 CH: 200 (using 25mL sample) --- 250 (using 10mL sample) CYA: 0 (I think; more on this below as well) Chlorine I'm sure the pool company added chlorine because the water is a...

    Pool pump not priming

Understood, I’ll have to figure out where that air is coming from. In the meantime, is the pool pump okay to keep running as long as there is water going through it?

    Pool pump not priming

Hi all, I looked at my pool pump yesterday, and I believe it isn't priming. I uploaded some videos to my Google Drive for a better visual, but to explain what's going on, the water doesn't fill all the way up to the top of the lid. I tried to fix it by turning off the pump and opening it to...

    Healthy level of chlorine

Hi all, I read online somewhere that safe levels of chlorine for pools range from 3-5, and 5-10 is considered okay. When I look at the CYA/Chlorine chart, I see that the chlorine level falls in the "okay" range. I'm just curious as to why this is and would like to understand what's really a...

    Chlorine level too high?

A week has passed, and I'm a lot more used to testing now. I brought the pool back to normal levels after passing the OCLT. Here are my readings as of today: FC - 3 CC - 0 pH - 7.7 TA - 90 CH - 325 CYA - 40 Based on the page that explains ideal pool levels, it looks like my TA is within the...

    Conflicting information for testing CYA

I'm liking the glance approach. Got a CYA of 40. The stare-at-the-dot approach drove me crazy.

Interesting approaches. I also found this product on YouTube. Has anyone here used this before? If so, thoughts?

    Conflicting information for testing CYA

This page says to glance and not look for the black dot, but this page says to continue pouring until "all traces of the black dot at the bottom of the view tube completely disappears, even after you stare at it for several seconds." Which one is right?

    Chlorine level too high?

I just measured FC/CC again this morning using the 10 mL mark, and this time it was obvious when the sample became colorless. FC is 16.5 and CC is 0.5. I'm baffled as to why FC dropped from >40 to 16.5. This leads me to believe that I did something wrong when measuring FC the first time, but I'm...

    Chlorine level too high?

It looks like I have this gas heater. I have removed the chlorine tablets per your recommendation. I take it that my chlorine test is valid? I'll definitely be using 10 mL next time. Here are my chemical levels: FC - Over 40 ppm (could not get it to turn colorless even after 200 drops) CC -...

    Chlorine level too high?

Hi there, I just moved into a home with a pool, and I didn't really have much time to care for the pool. I'm trying to measure the chlorine level in my pool, and I am doubting whether or not I'm doing it correctly. For context, a pool company came out just yesterday and SLAMed the pool. I'm...

    White substance on pool siding

Hi all. I'm a new pool owner, and I'm observing white substance on the side of my pool. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I'm guessing it's calcium scaling?
